Comments about D'Addario ENR71-5 Half Rounds Light 5-String Bass Strings:

I opted to try some half-wound strings this time around, and chose this set. The price was right, and I've historically had decent experience with this brand. Once my bass was properly strung, I noticed that the A string sounded partially muted. I checked l everything to make sure it wasn't the bass, but all of it checked out. I live with the problem, and it has slowly gotten better with time. If I played any more frequently than I do, I might have made a fuss about it. For the money, it'll work for me, but I'll be wishing that GHS made 5-string half-wound strings next time I buy.

    Great for Fretless

Comments about D'Addario ENR71-5 Half Rounds Light 5-String Bass Strings:

I use this on my Pedulla Pentabuzz bass. You still get the mids and some of the highs that people relate to the fretless but without the wear on the fretboard.

    Smooth

    By Keith

    from Freeport, IL

Comments about D'Addario ENR71-5 Half Rounds Light 5-String Bass Strings:

I used to play with flats on my old 4-string bass. I loved the way they felt, but the sound was not exactly what I had wanted, which sparked my interest in ground-wound (half-round) strings. I recently upgraded to a five string and they did not have a 5-string set in ground-wound strings so I went with regular round-wound. The round-wound tore up my fingers and I needed another set. I ordered a set from here, I can really feel the difference. They have the tone that I was looking for, but without tearing up my fingers. These strings are great, give them a try and you won't go back.

Everything You Would Expect from D'Addario

    By Joe Sclafani

    from Warwick, NY

Comments about D'Addario ENR71-5 Half Rounds Light 5-String Bass Strings:

Just Great. These strings provide a mellow tone, but with enough punch and brightness to bring the bass "out front" when needed. D'Addario strings have never let me down, and these strings hold true to that statement. A great string for my application, praise and worship, and likely so for jazz.

They fit what I think a bass should sound like...

    By EBB

    from Pittsburgh

Comments about D'Addario ENR71-5 Half Rounds Light 5-String Bass Strings:

I own a Cort Artisan A-5. This particular bass is designed for a brighter sound. I liked everything about it, except the super-bright sound. Someone suggested trying half-rounds or flat-wounds. I didn't want to go all the way to the other extreme, so I bought half-rounds. I really, really like them. This is the sound I was looking for. They really are the best of both worlds.
