Much different from usual 'rounds'

Comments about D'Addario EHR340 Half Round Light Top Heavy Bottom Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been using FLAT or Ribbon Wound since the '70s, and this is a 'Buy & Try' for me. Ordinarily, I wouldn't ever give up my Flat Wounds, as I can't tolerate that SKREEK sound that is inherent in round wounds. These half rounds are much quieter than standard rounds, and that's a plus. I sure miss the feel of my Flat Wounds though, as I've had at least 40 years to get used to them. Also, I'm used to Gibson G-040 which are much heavier, for a fuller, bassier sound. All things considered though, these half-rounds are O.K. for what they are, and I'd recommend them to anyone who has ever suffered with Round Wounds. I'll make the effort to get along with them, even though taking the Flat Wounds off is like saying goodbye to an old friend. Overall, D'Addario did a pretty good job of acknowledging the 'SKREEK' noise issue, and trying to fix it.
