The lubricant is in a sponge applicator, it is not gooey or waxy like other similar products. You can see what a good job it does at cleaning when you see the gray streaks left in the white sponge after wiping it even over strings that have just been changed. Leaves strings very slick for a much improved playing feel. Best to keep the applicator capped and locked inside its tin so it won't dry out. It can be hard to tell when the sponge is used up, but if you no longer feel the difference when you use it, it may be time to open a new tin.
I got some of this the other day, and boy am I glad I did. It not only does a great job cleaning the strings, so they sound and feel newer, but they're not kidding when they say string lubricant. Your fingers can slide over the strings effortlessly, and it practically eliminates that "old string drag" feeling. The tin is quite sturdy, so you can toss it in a gigbag or case and not worry about something crushing it. It says to use it each and every time you play, but I'm only going to use it before recording and gigs, myself. But this stuff is definitely worth the money, and I know I'm going to get more once the stuff I have runs out. I highly suggest this!
When I bought this I didn't have high hopes for it,but then I tried it and there was a noticeable change in the feel and tone of my strings.I'm constantly practicing or playing gigs so it's important for me to have strings that aren't going to oxidize. It's been about 2 months and the strings still feel like new thanks to this product. It also makes it a lot easier for me to do slides and bends.I use DR's,which are known to last quite a while but this is a ridiculously long time. Not that that's a bad thing.
When I used it on my guitar's 1 and half month old Martin phosphor bronze strings, it brought the brightness back to my dull strings. The strings were dirty with some grime, finger oils, and airborne germs. It sound so dull that I thought I need new strings. This product is excellent and you won't disappointed except paying a high price for it. This XLR8 string cleaner is a must have.
