Overview

This Planet Waves O-Port is proven to enhance the sound of any acoustic guitar and kill feedback without the use of electronics. It's has been tested under the scrutiny of world-renowned acoustic engineers and sound producers to improve tonal quality. The result is a fuller, richer sound with noticeably increased sustain and harmonic range. The tonal enhancement provided by the Planet Waves O-Port is particularly pronounced when the acoustic guitar is plugged in and amplified, resulting in a much fuller sound, a stronger signal to the internal pickup, and significant feedback control. The Planet Waves O-Port fits in most acoustic guitars with a round soundhole, regardless of make or model.

The Planet Waves O-Port's material is custom blended for flexibility to prevent damage to your guitar finish and inlays. The O-Port suppresses feedback and gives your acoustic or acoustic-electric guitar a fuller sound with more volume, better clarity, and enhanced projection.

Just measure your acoustic guitar's soundhole and choose the Planet Waves O-Port that fits best.

First off I was very skeptical. A piece of plastic to put in the soundhole of my Martin that will make it sound better? Yeah right! Well it did just that, more lows, more focused sound and no feedback through amplification. If you own an acoustic, buy one. Period.

The O-port marketing and packaging boast of increased projection and tone. From owning one and using it in several different guitars and with trusted listeners sitting across the room, I've found that it does alter the projection and tone, but not to make a guitar sound fuller or louder. I found a sharp reduction in the "boxy" sound of every guitar, as well as a decrease in volume, less vibration from the top of the instrument, and loss of mid and high frequency. That being said, what I've described is essentially how a guitar like an Ovation differs from a normally constructed acoustic. The sound is much, much, much more scooped in the mids, and it sounds glassy and sterile. Go ahead and buy one if you wish you had cheap sounding Ovation.

I can't help but wonder if the designers of the O-port keep one in their personal guitars. I don't imagine that being the case, at least not for long.

        Cheap thrill

        By Stephen

        from Kansas City, Kansas

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

Does make a slight difference in the sound. I can't say what an audience or microphone would hear, but I could tell the sound was less cluttered. This made the bass stand out. Before installing cut a slot over your truss rod nut so you can get to it. After removing and replacing the O port 6 times it began to split up the side. I taped it over with duct tape but expect it would tear apart complete with more in and out of the sound hole.

        Didn't Change Anything

        By Samuel Besse

        from Valencia, CA

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I play acoustic guitar in a Contemporary Christian band; I was having feedback issues with my monitor on low notes. I play an Ovation with a single cutaway; the O-Port doesn't fit well in that guitar (which may be the problem). I did not notice any change in the overall sound of the guitar and I am still getting feedback in all the usual places. Maybe it is the guitar or the poor fit with the cutaway. I am going to a sound hole cover now.

        Oh Yeah!

        By James Farrell

        from Sutherlin, Oregon

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I bought the Planet Waves O-Port as an upgrade for my Washburn D10SDL. I really like this guitar which I play the most, even though I have another guitar with deeper resonance and volume (Zager) that is a much larger/deeper bodied guitar. The Washburn is just more comfortable to play. I wanted to improve it's output and bass if possible. After installing the O-Port, which was extremely easy without even removing the strings, I noticed a significant volume improvement both in low-end response and treble clarity(just like they say). Now the output and sound quality is as good if not better that the Zager, which I plan on outfitting with an O-Port as well. It sounds like a new guitar and I have a greater impetus to practice.

        O-Port on Taylor

        By Jacob Parks

        from Mt Sterling, Ky

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

Installation was on a Taylor GA style cutaway body w/electronics and was easy, less then 10 minutes. I didn't notice any gain in volume with normal strumming or picking but did notice a clearer sound with more sustain. From low to high range was improved. With this style body, a hard string attack or strumming will come out distorted. But with the O-Port I can play harder and it all comes out smooth and clear. Big increase in the performance of the electronics also, with no feed back. I can see where a finger picker wouldn't like it, but if your a flat picker or hard hitter, this might be for you. It will stay on the Taylor.

        Makes your guitar sound amazing

        By Cheryl Hare

        from NJ

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I put the O-Port in to my beginner Yamaha guitar, just to see if it could improve the sound the way it was advertised. I was amazed with what the O-Port can do! My Yamaha guitar now sounds like a Taylor. This device is so easy to just pop in (even though you most likely will have to remove the strings.) Other than that you an start playing. The sound of your guitar will improve for any acoustic guitar you plan to put this in to.

Might be good on some guitars

        By Scott Jones

        from Muncie, IN

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I tried this on my Takamine EF341SC. While it did suppress feedback, it also completely killed the bass frequencies of the guitar. I love the deep, droning bass sound of the Takamine too much to leave this on it. It's too bad, because it looked good on the guitar.

        Stops feedback... almost

        By John Mayer

        from visalia Ca

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

So i have been using the oport for a long time and decided to write a review for once to let you guys know what it's like... So i originally purchased one for my taylor and once i installed it i was like "Oh MY Gosh it sounds amazing" It definitely made my guitar look better because it puts a black trimming on your sound hole. Anyways so i've had it for 8 months UNTIL I BOUGHT ONE FOR MY MARTIN DREADNOUGHT. I've played my martin a million times and i am very familiar with the tone... once i installed the oport and did the first chord progression I realized that the low end was dulled down... the guitar itself becomes quieter... I found a way to take the oport off with the strings on and i have strummed without the oport and my guitar was louder... the oport does make the guitar look better though.

Tip for those who have Larrivee LV series, Takamine with CTP

        By Michael K

        from Centreville, VA

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I already wrote a review about this product but I wanna share some info for the future buyers. Like I wrote before, if you have a Takamine with CTP preamp model, simply you can not insert this device into the soundhole because its size of preamp is quiet big. There is no enough space inside for O-Port. My brother in law has a Larrivee LV-03R which is installed L.R Baggs preamp. Unfortunately, you can not use the O-Port with this guitar due to same problem. So I think this product is only for acoustic guitars or some cheap acoustic-electro guitars.
