Overview

This Planet Waves O-Port is proven to enhance the sound of any acoustic guitar and kill feedback without the use of electronics. It's has been tested under the scrutiny of world-renowned acoustic engineers and sound producers to improve tonal quality. The result is a fuller, richer sound with noticeably increased sustain and harmonic range. The tonal enhancement provided by the Planet Waves O-Port is particularly pronounced when the acoustic guitar is plugged in and amplified, resulting in a much fuller sound, a stronger signal to the internal pickup, and significant feedback control. The Planet Waves O-Port fits in most acoustic guitars with a round soundhole, regardless of make or model.

The Planet Waves O-Port's material is custom blended for flexibility to prevent damage to your guitar finish and inlays. The O-Port suppresses feedback and gives your acoustic or acoustic-electric guitar a fuller sound with more volume, better clarity, and enhanced projection.

Just measure your acoustic guitar's soundhole and choose the Planet Waves O-Port that fits best.

The O-port marketing and packaging boast of increased projection and tone. From owning one and using it in several different guitars and with trusted listeners sitting across the room, I've found that it does alter the projection and tone, but not to make a guitar sound fuller or louder. I found a sharp reduction in the "boxy" sound of every guitar, as well as a decrease in volume, less vibration from the top of the instrument, and loss of mid and high frequency. That being said, what I've described is essentially how a guitar like an Ovation differs from a normally constructed acoustic. The sound is much, much, much more scooped in the mids, and it sounds glassy and sterile. Go ahead and buy one if you wish you had cheap sounding Ovation.

I can't help but wonder if the designers of the O-port keep one in their personal guitars. I don't imagine that being the case, at least not for long.

Wonderful sound!

By Eric Utsler

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I recently put one of these in an old Washburn acoustic (all laminate body). The low end is now more focused and the high end is clearer. Overall the guitar sounds louder with better quality of sound...well worth the money!!!

Great invention!

By Gary

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I was blown away the first time my friend played his guitar with an O-Port installed. I had to have one! Since getting mine, the difference in the tone of my guitar is hard to believe. The sound is just incredible and really "fills the room" with sound. I highly recommend this product to any serious guitar player.

O Lot of Clarity!

By Julie

from Austin Texas

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

The O-port does just what is says and then some! Not a major recording artist ; but I loved the feedback suppression and the noticable increase in volume! I bought the large in black and it was very easy to install. If you if need some help they have a great video at planetwaves.com/oport. If you are using a mic, you need to give it a try!

Great Idea!

By Matt

from Chicago, IL

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I picked this up for two reasons 1) I missed the natural sound coming from the sound hole when I used my feedback buster...the feedback buster always muted it a bit and 2) I grow my nails out for fingerpicking, but also do some aggressive strumming stuff when we play out and would end up with a black streak on the top of my guitar after a long gig from my fingers scraping the rubber....it was getting old cleaning it off. I was very skeptical about the "reduced feedback" claim from the o-port as the sound hole is still open, but, lo and behold, after 5 or 6 gigs with it, I would say that the feedback rejection is as good or better than with the feedback buster. When I strum in the living room, the overall sound of my guitar seems tighter and more focused and slightly louder. I haven't recorded with this yet, but I'm sure my guitar will sound better when I put it to tape...and you can leave it in and forget about it, whereas I was always taking the feedback buster in and out. While the feedback buster only helps you at a gig, the o-port is as useful in feedback reduction, will improve your recorded guitar sound, and quite simply, makes your guitar sound better when you are sitting around writing tunes...I highly recommend picking one up!

VERY EFFECTIVE!!!!

By James

from Dallas, Texas

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

Ya'll, I bought this just hearing about it and seeing it in some ads here and there. Went to Guitar Center store in Dallas and saw it again. Asked the guy behind the counter about it and he had never really used it. So he was kind enough to go and put it in a guitar (your guys rock for helping out btw!). We put it in an epiphone hummingbird and I found a second hummingbird to test. We could hear the difference pretty clearly. WAY more deep rich sounds. Even my cousin's wife, who diesn't know anything about guitars, could tell there was a difference. I bought it and put it in my epiphone PR-4E and it sounds just as good! I can't wait for the chance to play and put some more video's up! Buy it, you'll enjoy it!

Definite Upgrade for Little Money

By Robert

from Albany , NY

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I purchased and installed this on my Larrivee D10E. It provides a definite and positive boost to the instrument's presence. It is easy to install but I had to modify it to fit around my soundhole controls. The material is easy to cut with either a utility knife or scissors. It would be nice if they had a model with the cutout provided or some kind of perforation or knockout ( like an electric box).

The O-Port made my list of "miracle products."

By Michael Carmody

from Wichita, Kansas

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

There are a handful of products out there in the world that actually live up to the hype and even exceed it. There's Nevr-Dull metal polish, Spot Shot carpet cleaner, WD-40 (of course) ۡ and now there's the O-Port. I play a 1974-ish Alvarez jumbo guitar (clone of the Gibson J-200), which is a wonderful instrument that has always sounded a bit on the thin side. I installed the large-size O-Port about a year ago ("Look, Ma, no tools required!"); it fit perfectly in the hole and I swear the guitar was instantly at least 50% louder, and the entire tone spectrum from low to high quite notably richer. Now I sometimes ask my friends to play it so I can sit and listen to the clear, pretty tone coming out of my old Japanese guitar. If you or anybody you know owns an acoustic guitar with a round soundhole, this simple little device needs to go in that hole. Period.

Great!

By Joshua

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I have to say I am pretty surprised at how much of a difference this product makes. It gives your Guitar a much, much clearer tone and sound. It is indeed worth the price. The installation is easy whether you are replacing your strings or just keeping the same ones on. I recommend keeping the same ones on before and after the installation of this product so you can hear the true difference in the clarity of your guitars tone plugged in or just acoustically. Either way it makes a quite a difference.

O Port in my Baby Taylor

By Joel Bernstein

from Timonium Maryland

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I received an O Port from planet waves and installed it in my Baby Taylor last week. I was surprised at how easily it went in. Just fold it up and place it in the sound hole. Right off the bass and mids were louder and the highs were brighter. I even can feel the vibrations in my body as they pass through my Baby. Its like a vortex of sound coming out loud and clear. Even my jam buddies noticed how much better my Baby souded. This is one good product out of so many lousy ones out in the market today. The O Port is a winner. Thanks Planet Waves for making my play experience a little better. I highly recommend it and I've been playing a long time and wouldn't endorse it if it didn't work.

It has taken the sound of a lower end Breedlove to the level of a $2,000+ Model

By Piratemon

from New Freedom, Pa.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

At first I was skepticle about the claims and I will have to say that they were all accurate. I installed it in under 5 minutes on my Breedlove Acoustic/Electric and it made the sound brighter and fuller. The tone has increased about 35 to 45%. What I will say is that it will now take a $100.00 guitar and make it sound like a solid wood Martin, but it will take the existing tone from any guitar and improve the sound to make that guitar sound much better. Different guitars will have different results depending on the original set-up that you are working with. I recommend this to any guitar, better sound for a small investment, easy to install.

You don't need an expensive guitar to have it sound better...

By Gene V.

from Shakopee, MN

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

You don't need an expensive guitar to have it sound better with the O-Port. I have a Mitchell guitar, GC retail around $200 and sounds nice, and adding a $20 O-Port made it sound even better! Projects very well, and the highs are higher and lows are lower. May get one for my wife's cheap nylon Harmony from the '70's even!

The Martin OMC loves the O-Port!

By Christopher

from Austin, TX

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

The O-port works great on my Martin OMC-1E. That guitar is an "orchestral" model with a fairly small body and is generally designed for playing while plugged in. So I installed the O-port to give it a little boost when playing unplugged. I play fingerstyle and I can notice a clear difference in the bass response and overall sound quality. As far as installation...it required the "large" version of the O-port. When installed, it slightly bumps up against the inside of the onboard electronics, but that doesn't seem to cause any issues as the edges of O-port will bend to accomodate it. I suppose I could have trimmed off part of it. Perhaps I'll try that later. Two thumbs up from me.

works great BUT!

By Rick Eining

from ocklawaha, fl

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

This thing works really! really! well. How ever its not for low action guitars, but as long as you don't have an epicly low action then it does its job perfectly. I put it in my ovation supper shallow because it didn't project the sound very well and now its louder than my fender dread! worth the money and then some.

Stops feedback... almost

By John Mayer

from visalia Ca

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

So i have been using the oport for a long time and decided to write a review for once to let you guys know what it's like... So i originally purchased one for my taylor and once i installed it i was like "Oh MY Gosh it sounds amazing" It definitely made my guitar look better because it puts a black trimming on your sound hole. Anyways so i've had it for 8 months UNTIL I BOUGHT ONE FOR MY MARTIN DREADNOUGHT. I've played my martin a million times and i am very familiar with the tone... once i installed the oport and did the first chord progression I realized that the low end was dulled down... the guitar itself becomes quieter... I found a way to take the oport off with the strings on and i have strummed without the oport and my guitar was louder... the oport does make the guitar look better though.

Might be good on some guitars

By Scott Jones

from Muncie, IN

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves O - Port:

I tried this on my Takamine EF341SC. While it did suppress feedback, it also completely killed the bass frequencies of the guitar. I love the deep, droning bass sound of the Takamine too much to leave this on it. It's too bad, because it looked good on the guitar.
