These things are just nifty. These were a direct replacement for my strat and it has helped my tuning stability so I can use the trem frequently. I could've went for schaller or sperzel locking tuners but decided to go for these and I don't regret it. These tuners don't require making those wraps around the peg, AND it cuts the leftover string for you. What more can you ask for?

I have always been a Sperzel man, they say they are the best in the business and I think its true, I have them on every guitar I own except one, My Tele. I thought I would give these a try and although decent I want to list the Pros and cons.everything about these seem to be top notch as far as the 18 to 1 ratio string cutting go. However when stringing my Tele with 9-42 slinkys the B and High E string slipped out of the hole. I had the thumbscrew as tight as I could get It and even gently went a little more with pliers still It wouldn't hold the string. Maybe 10's would work. I am very disapointed in them and may return them. Sperzels cost about $20 more but IMO they are better.

For how long?

By Daniel

from Roy, Utah

I installed these on two of my three guitars, and after a few months of having them on I left the country for 2 years. Well, these babies stayed in perfect tune. When I pulled the guitars out of their cases again I plugged them into the tuner to tune them, and they hadn't moved even half a semi-tone, even the one with the tremolo bridge (not double locking). I then grabbed my guitar that didn't have them installed and it was severely out of tune (by about 2 1/2 steps [5 semitones]). I highly recommend getting these on any guitar, NOT just for tremolo. They are amazing. The best bonus is the auto-trim feature (which is what attracted me to them in the first place). It is a HUGE time saver, and you don't have to worry about the strings slipping while installing new ones in. Just make sure you leave at least one half a rotation (of the peg) of string to go off of after it is trimmed, and you will be fine. Like everything else, you just have to know how to use in order for it to work.

No stars

By Jason Lout

Installed these per the instructions on planetwaves website. Should have been pretty much a drop in solution from what I've researched around the web. These things would not fit in the holes on my LP. Ended up splitting the wood on the fa?ade of the headstock! Don't recommend. Taking these back when I get the chance.

Planet Waves Trim Tuners

By IsaA

from houston, tx

They are a good set of tuners. The trimming mechanism lets be lazy. Make sure you tighten the locks really tight, specially for the high E and B, because if not they will slip. It happened to me that I tightened the high E's machine too hard, and the rod that holds the string in place got stuck while the cap of the lock came off. Just grab a pair of pliers and take out the rod, and re tighten the rod with the cap. haven't had it happen since. When I put these in to my guitar, it substantially increased the tuning stability.

Purely Awesome

By Danny K.

from Roy, Utah

I love these. I put them on my Ibanez RG120 and that thing doesn't come out of tune no matter how hard I dive bomb. They are also a really great timesaver. I don't have to take a half hour to restring my guitar anymore and use the wire cutters and get stabbed by excess string. I highly recommend these.

Planet Waves Auto Trim Tuning Machines 6 In-Line

By Rick Marquis

from Salem, OR

I installed these tuners on my telecaster kit because the Gotoh tuners were cheap. I decided on these tuners as they are locking and also cut the string as you tighten up the string. Everything worked great on low E, A, D, and G strings But when I tried to string the B and High E string they would cut off ok but as soon as it cut the string would slip out of the tuner "Whang!" as it pulled out of the tuner. I tried three more strings, E and B, and the same thing happend. The strings are Fender 10 thru 48 gauge. Well, I re-installed the Gotoh tuners for the E and B strings to get the guitar playing again. Emailed Planet waves about the problem and have not heard back from them as of yet. This would be a very good product if the E and A strings would not slip out of the tuner. Don't know if I am going to trust them anymore. Just think, if you broke a string while on the bandstand you could replace it in 30 seconds with these tuners if they would work right. Rick

Faulty Tuners

By Brian

from Danville, CA

These tuners are not good. The E and B strings clip and slip right out. I even tried leaving a little slack, as one reviewer wrote, so that after it clipped it would not have so much tension that it pulls out. Nope. Didn't work. I'm returning these.

B & E string problems real...

By Brian

from Oklahoma City, OK

First, let me state that D'Addario/Planet Waves customer service was very responsive in trying to address this problem. Guitar Center was great in providing a refund when I returned these. I purchased this set from GC and quickly ran through 4 B/E strings trying to figure out if it was me or the tuners where the problems lay (I'm using .10's btw...not super light strings). After reading online, it quickly became apparent that there were some quality control issues regarding the B/E strings that allowed those strings to slip after fully being "locked" and clipped off. I sent an email to D'Addario/Planet Waves and within 3 days (with no questions asked), I was sent a brand new set of 6 inline tuners. Great, right? Well, not so much. New tuners, same problem. I then "shot from the hip" (hint, hint) with another brand of locking tuners and no problems, so I really don't believe it was an installation/user error issue on my part. I suspect that these are not engineered (although I found no documentation to support this hypothesis) to work well with string trees/retainers used on guitars like tele's and strat's. Despite the quick response from D'Addario and the refund from GC, at no point was I able to get reimbursed for the cost of the strings these defective tuners ruined. This is probably the most negative review I have ever written on any product, but the repeated hassle of installing the tuners, waiting a few days only to ruin more strings, and incurring the cost of replacing multiple strings got to me and I wanted to give others fair warning. I would strongly suggest you consider and try other brands of tuners and would flatly state that these are not worth the risk...clearly they've worked for others, but why have to even worry about the possibility of getting repeat duds like I did? I'll probably try other D'Addario/Planet Waves products in the future, but I feel they dropped the ball on these tuners big time.

B String

By Mike

from Gilbert, Arizona

Great Tuners...if you like playing with 5 strings. I put them on my guitar, put new strings on, and tightened them up. I don't know what it is, but every time I've done this, the B string clips of (as it should) and then proceeds to fly off. Bottom line is, I cannot play with 5 strings.

Awesome! Timesaver

By BillionDollarBaby

from Baton Rouge, LA

I play and my two boys(10 & 11) are learning to play on their Squier strat jr's, but the tuners are junk and they got bent during an attempted burglary. Tired of changing strings for three, I found these and they installed easily after I drilled out the peg holes they just screwed right into the mounting holes already in the strat jr. I put light guage strings (9's) on the guitars and at first the B&E strings slipped no matter how hard I tightened but then I realized that on the E, B & G, I needed to leave some slack to give at least half a winding after cutting and before tension started to apply to the string; and after that, I had no trouble at all! Wow these things are awesome! This will save me so much time and so easy to use now that I've figured them out.
