the idea is there, but very poor design. I bought one and the sponge inside is about the size of a postage stamp ! which means it dries up in about a day !!! also not crazy about how it spreads the guitar strings apart all the time ! i have had more success with a backpack soap holder and a large sponge in it--dont forget to drill holes in the top for evaporation !! add velcro to it and to the guitar case so it stays in place!
very effective and cheap to make!

Simple and effective!

By Aleks G

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

It's really all you need to keep your guitar at the right humidity level. I don't think there's any reason to spend more than you have to for something that does a pretty simple job. It fits nicely between the strings and does not move at all! It's really all you need for a pretty low price. I recommend this for anyone who wants to keep their guitar safe!

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

This guitar humidifier is pretty cool. I actually need this because my guitars are set up near a window and I live in Denver Colorado so it is pretty dry. This thing is great and it doesn't ruin the wood.

This is a nice and simple humidifier. I use it for my Martin, and it keeps my guitar in nice shape. The humidifier itself is easy to use and does what its intended to do, no frills, no bells and whistles. If you want to care for your instrument, this is a nice humidifier to have. It gets the job done, and is easy on your pocket. I highly recommend this humidifier.

Just set it and forget it

By Flood

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

I brought two of these of humidifiers to protect both of my Seagull and Harmony guitars from being damaged by the environment that will make the guitar age prematurely and play the music notes undesirably. It made whole lot of difference for both of my guitars, the Harmony guitar doesn't play any undesirable string picking sounds at the bridge and the Seagull keeps on smelling like new like it came straight out of the factory. Also, the Seagull still plays like new. I always make sure the sponge is always damp so the humidifier keeps on doing its job. Just keep in mind to use distlled water not filter or even tap water. That way, keep protecting the guitar is the easiest thing to do. Just follow the manufacturer's instructions so you could extend your guitar's life span and prevent any environmental damage. I would recommend anyone who wants a simple humidifier and still be able to protect their acoustic guitar.

Pricey but worth it.

By Ben Perea

from Albuquerque, NM

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

Has a tendency to dry out fairly quickly in New Mexico but that only means its working. Be careful not to overfill - possible leaks - other than that they work great. I use them on all my guitars and Banjos.

Be aware that it stretches G-D strings

By Yuni Lee

from CAMBRIDGE, MA

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

I applied it to my Little Martin, but it stretched G-D strings too much. I also find out that many users complained for this. I'm worried that it would harm the strings, the bridge, and balance in the neck in the long term, so I just placed in the case.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

FOR THE PRICE THIS WORKS OK AND IS A MUST FOR ANY ACOUSTIC INSTRUMENT IF KEPT IN A CASE FOR PROTECTION AGAINST OTHER HARM AS WELL. I FOUND THAT LOOSENING THE STRINGS LETS IT FIT OK WITH OUT TO MUCH STRAIN ON THE STRINGS. AND I RETUNE MY GUITARS EVERY TIME BEFORE I PLAY ANYWAY. ANYWAY IF YOU WANT YOUR INSTRUMENT NOT TO WARP AND BECOME USELESS ANY TYPE OF HUMINDIFICATION IS NESSESARY. I HAVE BOUGHT GUITARS AT GARAGE SALES CHEAP AND MADE PLAYERS OUT OF THE AGIAN WITH TIME IF THERE NOT TO SEVER THEY CAN BE RESTORED WITH PATIENCE AND SOME TLC. NOT A 5 MINUTE FIX THOUGH!!!

    Humidity, a bain or blessing?

    By Samuel Fleming

    from Dubuque, IA

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

I bought this little humidifier two years ago for my Walden D550E. It does its job very well. I am currently a student in College and the dorms that I am living in are very old. During the winter they easily dip below 10% humidity so it is VERY important that I keep my guitar humidified. Ever since I bought this humidified I have not had any trouble. Just moisten the sponge and install it in between the D and G strings and leave the guitar in its case. If you are extra concerned you might get a second humidity pack of some sort to place somewhere around the headstock. Either way, this system works very well. I am thoroughly impressed with the function of the device.

Like the header says the price is right and it's easy to use. Slips right between the strings and stors in the guitar case while you're playing. Cheap insurance for my high end giutar.

    Good but for one detail

    By Loony Bob

    from Gloucester, MA

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

Simple design, easy to use, inexpensive, only one problem - the grey rubbery stuff around the side vent holes makes this a little harder to slide in between the strings. Looks cool, but smooth sides would have worked better.

    sponge and sponge holder

    By JESSE LUNDY

    from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

I should have known that for the price I wasn't getting anything top of the line. Essentially this is a small sponge in a plastic "sponge holder" that doesn't fit in the hole of my guitar.

        damaged my strings

        By shawn thompson

        from buffalo NY

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

I have an OM size acoustic and I bought this humidifier, followed the instructions and placed it between the D&G strings. Sure, it holds securely, but it was VERY tight and I got the impression it would stretch the strings if left there for any length of time. Removing it was a pain and you have to stretch the strings open to pull it out. I didn't stretch the strings enough by hand and the humidifier case has grooves and tabs that caught the strings bad enough to actually damage the outer wrap on one and cause a mark on the other. The supplied sponge is so small that I wonder why they made the case so huge. If the case was about 50% slimmer and it fit more gently in the strings I would use it. As it is now, I wouldn't even consider this.

Play an acoustic guitar? Get one of these

        By Ray Lawrence Jr.

        from Machessney Park, IL

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

OK kids this is a must have item and lets put it his way. Without some form of humidification you can take a good guitar and turn it into a very expensive piece of fire wood in a very short time, especially if you live in Arizona. It is VERY dry there and a humidifier is a must there. This is the best insurance you can have. It goes true for other places. all you do with this thing is take the cover off and turn on the cold water from your sink and soak the sponge, put the cover back on and do the old paint brush wrist snap thing like when you want to get the water out of a pain brush. the idea is not to have a bunch of water soaking the inside of your guitar. You wan to humidify it, not give your guitar a bath. The other option is to have a gauge to check humidity and there is an upgraded package the you can get that comes with one. But if you are low on cash this is a must have item and here is a trick you can do if you don't have a gauge to measure humidity. It's called a smart phone and you can pull up the humidity information for what location where you may be or check the weather. The main thing is get one of these for an acoustic guitar it will save your axe big time. i use this same humidifier on the road and it has been with the same guitar for almost 3 years and no problems.

        Just Add Water!

        By Little

        from Woodland Hills, CA

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

This little gizmo is easy to use and should help keep the humidity level in your guitar case at the proper level. Just add water, slip the cartidge bewteen the D and G strings and off you go. The cartirdge is designed so that it will not touch the actual wood of your guitar and so that water from the sponge should not drip into the guitar (just make sure the sponge is not too wet). If there is a downside, it is that you will likely have to re-wet the sponge every couple of days or so, but I believe the other guitar humidifiers require this level of maintenance as well.

        Easy & helpful humidifier.

        By Nic

        from Monticello, Iowa

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

I bought a few of these humidifiers not to long ago and they are so easy to use. All you have to do to use one is just take the sponge out of the plastic box and get it wet then wring it out and put it back in the plastic box and then put the box inside your instrument case. It does a really incredible job at keeping your acoustic bass/banjo/guitar/mandolin/violin/ukulele/ETC humidified. I highly recommend it for the price and the good quality.

        Old dog, new trick

        By david

        from Bedford,TX

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Acoustic Guitar Humidifier:

I played for over 40 years, but never used a humidifier. After making the big $$$ purchase of a Taylor 814CE,I was looking at some of their videos on care. They recommend use of a humidifier so I bought this unit to take care of my investment. I decided to see what effect it had on my other acoustics . . . The difference was unbelievable, they all 4 sounded like completely different guitars. Back was the deep throatiness that made me fall in love with each of them to begin with. I nearly took the Taylor back. They now each have one & I can't decide which one to play. I think this is a minor investment for a must have care tool.
