These D'Andrea Pro Plec picks are really great! I use the 1.5mm with my mandolin. They're extremely durable. The edges are nice and smooth and stay that way. And they look good too! A good value!
I'm a guitarist and mandolinist. To me, the two most important traits are attack tone and grip comfort. I've tried several thick picks, favoring the Dunlop tortex .88 and 1.0mm at first. I also gave the dunlop 208 a good try. That's the large black 2mm pick. I didn't like it because it was too hard, and the attack was a bit too pingy. The reigning champion for a long time was the Fender xtra heavy. It was challenged by the blue Brain pick (a 1.5 I believe), but the brain pick didn't have the pleasant attack tone of the Fender xtra heavy. They are the current champion. I think I'll be playing with them for a good long time. I like the standard shape for the guitar, and the small square shape for the mandolin.
I happened on one of these D'Andrea Pro Plecs laying on the sidewalk in the West Village, NYC, and picked it up, brought it home, and tried it on bass and guitar. This pick is the absolutely best pick that I have ever played, period! Smooth feel, nice and thick, nice and natural grip, and the tone it helps produce is second to none! I ordered a 12 pack from GC online, and put ALL my other picks aside to give to another guitar or bass player if they need a pick. I will play only D'Andrea Pro Plecs from now on. No contest, in my opinion. D'Andrea is one of the oldest pick makers around, and they are the best for me. I found out that Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry of The Who play these very same plectrums. They both have good taste. ;-) Try them for yourself and see/hear/feel. Cheers!
