a staple string. never fail
the d'addario EXL 170 are strings that I have used for as long as I can remember. They have a decent life span, even with playing them for hours every day.
They have a wide tonal spectrum and no matter what, they have always been consistantly great sounding. Every so often you can get a bum string in a pack. Not with these and I have literally gone through hundreds of these.
These are my staple go to string whenever I get a new bass. I know what to expect with these strings and they never disappoint.
They are well worth their weight in gold.
These have been used on all of my basses (well over 130) active, passive, vintage and modern and in all types of musical settings: rock, metal, funk, jazz, fusion, trip hop, etc.
I always have a spare pack or three around, just in case.
Highly recommended.

Really great strings for the price
Every time these strings go on sale I try and purchase as many as I can. They last quite a while without sounding muddy or dull. The tension is pretty good considering the gauges of the E and A string. They sound great for slapping and pick playing without being too bright or tinny when new. They also give off a nice warm but bunchy sound when finger plucked. These strings feel good on my Jazz bass and my Stingray. I have yet to pop one of these even though I only change my strings every 3 or 4 weeks.
