Wound with pure nickel, then precision ground, leaving the outer surface smooth and "semi-flat." D'Addario Half Rounds XL bass strings retain the flexibility and many of the tonal characteristics of round wound strings. Half Round heat-treating process increases the brightness of the strings. Long scale.

  • Very Nice Feel and Sound

    I was using steel rounds. I didn't like the feel of them on my strum fingers and they were a bit too bright for me. These strings are very smooth after you play on them for a couple of hours. It gives me a softer tone too. I'm very new at the bass and these strings help hide how terrible my technique is. Two other bass players have picked up my bass and said "wow, these strings feel nice". One of the guys went out and bought the exact same strings for his bass. I especially recommend these strings if you're a beginner. After an hour of playing on them I noticed how much faster I can strum and fret with the smoother strings.

    I've been playing for almost 40 years and have used many different brands of strings.D'ADERRIO half rounds to me were the only string that retained its brightness and clairity for extended periods of time.I play GIBSON and FENDER basses, and these strings have always served me well.The half round cuts out most of the finger noise of round wounds and are much brighter than flat wounds.And the price from guitar center can't be beat.

  • Awesome on Jazz Bass!

    Purchased a set to try to lessen "string squeak" while playing. The "string squeak" is virtually gone and the tone of my Jazz Bass was improved greatly! The tone of these strings is a little darker than round-wound strings but brighter than flat-wound strings. These strings just "took the (harsh) edge off" the treble and made the E and A strings rumble without being too dark. "Hear the music - FEEL THE BASS!"
