Wound with pure nickel, then precision ground, leaving the outer surface smooth and "semi-flat." D'Addario Half Rounds XL bass strings retain the flexibility and many of the tonal characteristics of round wound strings. Half Round heat-treating process increases the brightness of the strings. Super long scale.
I'd been using flat rounds for a while and I really liked them. I started playing in a band that was a bit heavier about a year and a half ago and realized that they weren't really cutting into the mix like I needed. I heard about these strings and figured I'd give them a try. I think they are exactly what I was looking for. They sound more like a round wound with a little flat wound mixed in. It has a nice rounded punch, not too bright and not flat or dull. The string itself is rougher than a flat wound, but nowhere near a round wound.
