these d'addario chrome flatwound strings are great. They sound huge and smooth, like flats should. They play effortlessly and are easy on the fingers. Plus the best part is they have tone for days. They are not dead sounding like some other flats out there and these last forever. Im going on 2 years on 1 set of these. I have used these on active and passive basses. I really like them on my p-bass style instruments. They just seem to fit that perfect. I have used these in all types of music settings. Rock, pop, funk, mellow jazz, etc. Highly recommended
I put these flatwounds on my "back-up" Samick 3 weeks ago and was very impressed right off the bat. The strings are "Buttery Smooth" in all fret positions. Belive it or not, it seemed like the action was a little quicker also. I seem to be able to play a little faster and more effortlessly. There is plenty of "Punch" when you want to feed a low, melodic, growling bass line. They also deliver powerful, clear notes when you want to do a little soloing. The tonal range is outstanding. They are also VERY quiet when you record with them. I especially like the fabric grip on the peg end of the strings. No slipping here. By the way. My "back-up" Samick is now my main axe untill I put these flatwounds on my P-bass.
I got these to put a little more thump and warmth in my MIM pbass. I tried GHS briteflats before and they were pretty good, but still gave a little too much fret noise and high end for my taste. These play almost silently after they're broken in. They're easy on the fingers(low tension for a flat) and the ears(smooth tone with no shrill highs) and i would highly recommend them.Only downside is the price and that it took me a good two weeks to break them in and get that wooly warm flatwound sound i like.Overal grt flats. I'd also reccomend ernie ball flats and ghs brite flats, but stay away from fender flats(super high tension, low durability)
