As a lifetime luthier, I must admit that I was originally a bit cautious about ordering the lower priced wires for my customer's 5-string bass. I was extremely surprised, therefore, to discover that the entire restringing procedure went smoothly with no final adjustments necessary other than a few tunings to stretch the wires. The action is responsive with a very mellow tone that can be beefed up with a bit of EQ work without sacrificing any of the response. I would compare these wires to a set that would cost at least 50% more. I hope that my local Guitar Center will start carrying these wires as a standard inventory item in the future.
In all honesty when I ordered these wires for my new fretless bass, I Chose them simply because they were light gauge, and inexpensive. But when I played them for the first time I was VERY pleased with the feel, and tone of them. My bass has active/passive pups at the flip of a switch and a three band active EQ so I was able to get a wide range of sounds out of them with very little EQ tweaking at the amp, from warm and mellow to in your face punchy. I'm planning on putting a set of these on my Fiance's fretted bass as well for her to enjoy.I highly recommend these wires, especially if you play fretless bass.
