I'VE BEEN USEING THEM FOR ABOUT 5 YRS. I AGREE, AT FIRST IT TAKES ALITTLE GETTING USED TO,BUT ONCE YOU BREAK THEM IN THEY'RE GREAT. NO FELTS NO WING NUTS. EASY TO SET UP EASY TO BREAK DOWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE EM. I PLAY EVERY WEEK.PROBABLY USED THEM ON TWO TO THREE HUNDRED GIGS . I'LL NEVER GO BACK TO WING NUTS AND FELTS AGAIN
OK - the convenience factor is certainly a plus. You don't have to worry about felts, washers, etc. It does take a while for the crowns to "loosen up" a bit, inasmuch that the hard plastic becomes easier to manage as you place your cymbals on them. The downside - after you play an exhausting gig, practice, etc - your hands & fingers are usually a bit fatigued, right? Well, that is when it is an absolute nightmare to remove your cymbals - in other words, it's difficult to squeeze & maneuver the device. Overall, I don't honestly know they protect or prolong the life of my crashes. We'll see.
I have been using these for over a year with my crashes and ride. I took a hack saw to them just about where the cleft parts meet to make it easier to set up and tear down and I have NEVER lost a cymbal off the stand. Even if I hit them extremely hard. Granted, I play my cymbals relatively level with a slight angle towards me so it may not work for you if you have extreme angles but it has saved me so much energy not to have to mess with the wing nuts, plastic sleeves, washers, etc. I was completely skeptical until I tried it. They're pretty cheap so try one out and see what you think!
