I am an eclectic guitarist that likes a lot of options. I find that by using the spider capo, I am able to be versatile. I did have a concern that it would damage and harm my guitar, or that it would not be strong enough to hold down the strings, but it works great. I have no complaints.

When I first bought this product I was quite taken with it. My creativity took different routes than it would have with standard or various open tunings due to different string lengths.. As a pro player of 40 plus years, I have a fairly nice collection of 20+ guitars. I began to use this on my favorite acoustic, a very old Taylor, I do some light guitar restoration, use my guitars with caution and take very good care of my instruments. Imagine my shock and disappointment when I took this device off my guitar after playing with it one day to find several deep gouges in the neck. The padding at each side of the capo had either slipped out of place or compressed over use enough to allow some metal parts of the capo to dig into the wood. A nice idea that needs work - enough so as to not damage fine, valuable vintage instruments. From now on I will stay with Kyser capos and trim the rubber in them to achieve the same result without permanently damaging my guitars. I would not recommend this unless you want to use it on a beater guitar that you don't care about.

Read Instructions

By Isaiah George

from Sherman, Texas

Overall, great little capo that opens up tons of options. I read some reviews complaining of gouges in the neck of the guitar, well the capo has tabs that go over the top of the fretboard to secure the capo and like most guys i almost threw away the instructions, but first i looked at them. On the bottom in big red letters it basically says make sure you put the tabs on the fretboard or it will damage the neck of your guitar. So before you pass over this capo because of complaints of damage remember that reading the directions can be vital in the success of a product.

Like open tunings? Here's the capo you've been waiting for!

By Douglas Lichterman

from St. Petersburg, FloridAa

I love playing in open tunings. When I first discovered them as a teenager, I spent hours exploring them and I still do so today. Open tunings allow you to create chord voicings that are more mysterious and colorful than you can get with normal guitar tuning. But there are a couple of downsides to open tunings. For one thing, if you want to switch between normal tuning and open tuning you either need two instruments or take the time to re-tune your guitar between songs. Another problem is that if you re-tune your instrument frequently the strings stretch out and lose their vibrant sound. That?s why I?m excited about this new development in capos. The fine designers at Creative Tunings have given us the SpiderCapo, the first capo that allows you to capo each string individually. Think of the vast number of tunings that are possible when you multiply all the fret placements by all the combinations of strings capo?d or not capo?d?there are hundreds of them. The SpiderCapo also allows you to finger strings above and below the capo?awesome! What?s more, you can change the individual string settings while you?re playing. It makes your head spin with possibilities.

Be Gentle

By John Goossen

from Ava, MO.

Great Idea but needs improvement in construction and parts for better durability. Mine worked great for a short time but then the plastic tightening nut came apart from the threaded shank. I guess it couldn?t handle a little pressure. Metal glued to plastic never seems to hold well. It should be all one metal piece. I will try to glue it but remain disappointed. Be gentle.

My "Spin" on the Spider Capo

By Dan Leonhardt

from Niles, MI

I have owned the "Third Hand Capo" for years now and it has worked very well for me but the Spider Capo intrigued me with its design. I have had it for about a month now and find that the way it mounts on the neck requires little or no tuning adjustment compared to the Third Hand. I also find the "fingers" on the Spider are cool as you can engage or disengage individual strings while playing. The product seems to be constructed and thought out very well. I was a bit concerned about the potential damage to the neck of my Taylor 514CE the way it clamps from side to side but after using it, those fears are gone. I look forward to all the possibilities using the Spider Capo.

Handy for some alternate and experimental tunings

By Robert

from Delmar, NY

Product works as described- in lieu of retuning strings up/down you can place and adjust to create the same effect. It does take a little care to install on your fingerboard and moving it up and down the neck is not a quick adjustment, but it does save buying or modifying a bunch of six string lever capos. It is fun to experiment with ! You tube has some instructional videos about using this capo.

Mind Bender

By M Lee

from Ft Collins, CO

Great tool to make you think harder about the theory side of playing. The possibilities are almost infinite. Was sceptical at first of the plastic construction but then figured out that I had installed it backwards (ie: thumbscrew down) and installed correctly (ie: thumbscrew up) at least thats how it seems to work better on my guitars. Now all I have to do is sit down and contemplate the various combinations that this tool has to offer.

Spider Capo

By D. J.

from Denver, Colorado

The Spider Capo is very easy to use and a fun tool for creating a simple way to accompany your own melody line. I use it on my classical guitar and it works great! I haven't tried it on my acoustic guitar yet, but I am not worried because it adjusts so easily.

SpiderCapo

By Charlie

from East Meadow, NY

pros-If you use it on 1 guitar it's fine. I like that you can fine tune the string when you go down the neck without turning the tuning pegs. (you know when you move the capo, some times you have to retune some of the strings.) With the spider you can fine tune the string on the capo by moving it up or down a little from the finger handles. Cons- If you have different width necks on several guitars it takes a little time to get the finger handles of the capo over the strings. And even if it's the same guitar and you go down to the 7th fret or more a little adjustment may be needed. All said great idea, opens many doors for song writers. 4 stars because of the time adjusting between guitars. So just buy 2! Peace
