I've had this head for about eight months now. I've played well over 12 shows with it and even lent it out a couple of times! It has kept up with touring, people treating it wrong and lots of use. I play in a band that requires alot of blastbeats and breakdowns and this amp has held true! We play in dropped-B and it has never given out in any way, oh by the way my cab is a slanted line 6 with celestion speakers. I would recommend it to any artist on a budget just not with the cheapy crate cab, the celestion cab sounds great on it though, use the money you saved for a better cab. I have also used to record our 7 song demo and will use it for the next one! Overall it's been a great, reliable head.

I don't really know what to say about this thing. It's ok, but for some reason I can't seem to get the volume or tone I want out of it. The distortion sound is fine when you play it by itself, but once you get it in the mix with another guitar, a bass, and some drums, it really doesnt cut through at all. Solos are drowned out, power chords are muddy and real sloppy sounding..It just really isn't that great. Is it worth the money you spent on it? If you have a job and stuff then yea, but if you are buying this head on a whim then I would suggest taking your three c's and getting the b-52 lg head. It sounds much better than this and is the same amount of money. I'm not sure about the cab that comes with this head in the half stack package either. I ran this through a marshall cab and it sounded decent, then I bring it back home and play it through the crate cab and it sounds muddy again, so I don't know what to think. I would just suggest getting either the B-52 half stack, a Peavey half stack, or even maybe a more expensive Randall, but make that your last choice. Go with the B-52. The clean channel on this head is good, however.

Outstanding value

By Dyetech_2000

I have had this amp for a little over a year now. I hooked it up with a Legion 4x12 and it sounds amazing. I play at church, so it's not like I am pushing it. For the money, you cannot get a better sound. Controls are very basic and I like that, plus you have the foot control which makes it very versatile. Well worth twice the price.

This Head Owns.

By cratemesaschector

I own this amp along with a Mesa Boogie cab and it freaking roars. The price you pay for the good sound is unbeleivable. Of course you could always go out and buy a slightly better tube amp for 10 times the money, but this head is great.

Good But not Great

By Mike-gcE._

from Chicago

The distortion depends on what you are playing, its not as full as my marshal mode 4 head, but thats a 1k difference in price. The head is really good for black metal because its really bright and the notes aren't lost in the lows. What i don't like is the reverb does nearly next to nothing. When moving the reverb up or down you cant hear a difference. And for playing black metal that is very disappointing because now playing clean i need a reverb pedal to get the Ghostly black metal sound.

Good Amp

By Ultimateshredder

from Atlanta, GA

This is a really good amp, the clean is amazing, the rhythm chanel is good and the solo chanel is really good, the only thing that i think would make it a better amp if it had eq just for the solo chanel instead of using the same eq for the rhythm and solo. when you connect it to the matching cabs it doesnt sound that great but i use it with a Marshall 1960A cab and it sounds really good.

Great, especially for the price

By Promit

I played this for a while in the store today, using a Schecter C-1+. Not the best guitar ever (Duncan Designed suck) but pretty decent. The amp is really impressive for the price. It does high gain well, and cleans are pretty good too. I can't say I was too fond of the mid-gain stuff; don't expect tube crunch. but when you need all out screaming high gain madness, or straight up cleans, you're good to go here. The distortion is pretty brutal; not harsh exactly, but it's not exactly "warm tubes". Look, it's no Peavey 6505+ or anything, but I really enjoyed playing it. If you're looking for a budget head and don't need mid gain crunch, this thing is awesome. One word of advice though; play any amp before you buy it.

For the price...

By Hummerhater

from whitewater, WI

This is a great amp for the price. Features only got a nine because there's only one speaker output. However, with the matching cab, you can use the second input to connect two cabs as a series circuit. The reverb is great, and I highly doubt it's digital, because when I loaded this up for practice, I heard springs moving around, exactly like my dad's ancient Gibson amp which has spring reverb. The distortion channels are just that, nice and gritty. Clean is perfectly clean. Had this for almost two years, no problems yet.

Another amazing Crate amp

By Ripley

from Manitorock, WI

I took this head to a gig less than an hour after I bought it, I hadn't even plugged it in until I got onstage! Talk about having faith in a product! This is my 3rd Crate amp and it's just as amazing as the others. I strongly recommend this head, especially to touring musicians. It will take a beating and never say die! Awesome analog reverb, great tone for almost any style. Tons of power for the price, looks like Crate has done it again.

By FaYd

from Brackettville Texas

This is an awesome head for someone who doesnt have the money to dish out hundreds of bucks. Im still in high school and needed a head for my self made cab and when I plugged into that thing i shook my whole house! so if ur on a tight budget buy this cab u wont be disappointed it does give off some feedback but nothing a noise gate cant fix. HURRY AND BUY!!PS. FOR METAL KEEP IT ON SOLO AND TOGGLE THE LOW MED AND HIGH KNOBS FOR BADASS DISTORTION!!
