I bought this amp when I was in India for a working trip. I am using a Vox AC15 at home. I played my 2006 AD Strat thru it. This amp is value for money. We cannot compare it with a 500 range tube amps but its quite good in its price range. It gives nice blues cleans but overdrive is not smooth. Reverb is quite nice, the 12 inch speaker is a plus, it gives nice round tone. I tried to use Boss Blues driver with it but was not satisfied. The clean channel was good with Crybaby classic. All in all a good package for home practice. I won't ever take it to a gig.
Usually amplifiers in the low end of the price range do not do justice to acoustic-electric guitars' piezo pickup, giving the guitar a muddy sound and defeating the purpose of the piezo altogether. The Crate FW15R is different. Run "Clean", with the Overdrive and Reverb off, the true acoustic sound of the acoustic-electric guitar comes through in all its glory, allowing the piezo to function as it was intended. Kicking in the overdrive gives an acoustic-electric the sound of a solid body electric guitar for songs or instrumentals where that sound is preferred. I don't use picks and prefer the softer, more intimate sound that finger picking and strumming with bare fingers gives, like fingers brushing softly across the cheek, and the undertones that whisper into the listener's ear. That intimacy is lost with most amps, but with the FW15R it is preserved. So at least for piezo acoustic-electric guitars, the Crate FW15R is well worth the price. Incidentally, the FW15R replaced Crate's older GX-15R amplifier.
I got this little guy to give me a way to practice in peace, and it does just that. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a practice amp because it's just that... a practice amp. All in all, this is actually a great little amplifier! I would recommend it to people just starting out, or someone on a budget who wants something worth their hard-earned bucks. Final word... Buy this amp, it's better than ANY in it's price range!
This amp is not the best from Crate, but for the price it is value for money. It wont shine in the band room like its bigger more powerful brothers, but for home use it's about perfect. Distorted and clean tones are pretty decent and the volume is enough to rattle some windows. However, this amp was advertised as a closed back unit. IT IS NOT! This is my only gripe. Audio input and headphone out work well. Did not experience any hissing or crackling. When using the dirty channel and you turn the volume all the way down, the sound still rings through at a low level.
I loved this amp when I bought it. I got this amp when i had only been playing for about 4 months. Its a great begginer's amp. Great distortion, and clear clean. After about a year of playing, I had come to find my clean to be a little more dirty, and my distortion's bass to be completely blown. I had not blasted this thing either, time just caught up to it. Good for begginer's, but not for much else.
This is just an OK amp. When I first got it, it was good. But as time passed, I noticed how muddy the sound was and sometimes it was louder than other times. Only get this amp if you know that soon, you'll be getting another one.
ok, Let me start off by saying that the appeal of a practice amp with a 12 inch speaker is appealing, but that's where it ends. Junk junk junk. Horrible sound from both channels. The gain side isn't even worth using at all. Both channels are absolutely muddy. I have outputted the amo to another cabinet, and it made that cabinet sound bad as well. IT IS NOT A CLOSED BACK, it is open. THe description said sealed, but it isnt. WOw, this thing is terrible.
This amp is great!!!! i just got it, i just spent my whole day playing with it. The overdrive is great on this amp, the gain sounds super. when i put it on clean and i was expecting it to sound not to good but it blew away my expectations. the reverb is good
I just bought this Amp plugged her in a away I went. The sound is clean and clear the 12" speaker is as loud as I want it. Tried the line 6 in this price range. No comparison, unless you want/need all the effects that come with the line 6 buy this one.
