There's a reason nobody buys this.

By Mike G

Comments about Gemini DMIX-600 Digital Music Control Station:

I went to guitar center to order this system from the warehouse (they don't stock it in stores because it's a no name piece of equipment). I got it a few days later and right out of the box there were problems. The company had put stickers on both jog wheels. I peeled them off carefully, but they still left a ton of residue on the wheels. After scraping it off, obviously all of the sensors in the wheels were dead. To make matters worse, I plugged in my iPod Touch, and what do you know? no signal. This piece of equipment doesn't support ipod touch or iphones. Okay, that's fine. I only really wanted it to use it with my macbook pro. Well what do you know? I install the drivers and application off of the cortex site and every time I touch it my macbook pro freezes up. (by the way, the system STILL doesn't recognize my computer). Also, even if it did work, the machine is poorly put together, and the buttons are just cheap plastic that just plain out aren't good. There's a reason why people spend more money to DJ digitally, because with this system you really get what you pay for.

better than Idj2

Comments about Gemini DMIX-600 Digital Music Control Station:

I purchased this unit after owning the numark Idj2 and this unit blows the Idj2 out of the water. If you really want to dj with a ipod there is no better choice go to ytube check it out then try some of the trick you see on the Idj2 it will not do them great job cortex.

Cortex creates their own niche

By DJ Ricky "D"

from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Gemini DMIX-600 Digital Music Control Station:

I've owned the Dmix-600 for 15 months now, and I'm still using it mainly as a mixer and backup music source, which I feel is its best application. I use SSL with CDJs via the line inputs. It is a competent mixer/pre-amp, plus it plays MP3 files without a laptop AND it scratches accurately AND it sorts MP3 files by BPM! Any other unit that would do all three would easily cost twice as much; plenty of people spend $500 on a mixer nowadays, why not get the extra capability? Once I downloaded the database manager and ran my drive(s) through it, I had no problems with music files. Also, I got caught in a rainstorm a month ago, and while my laptop was destroyed, this unit survived and I actually finished the party strong! My experience with this unit has been all good.

Would be great, but crashes.

By daniel barton

from los angeles, ca

Comments about Gemini DMIX-600 Digital Music Control Station:

I heard all the reviews saying it crashes all the time too, but I ignored them because I figured that they were unlucky. Well if so, so was I. It simply stops in every set; nothing responds and you have to reboot to make it work again. Obviously this can't be used as a performance tool with this bug. Also I've looked for a solution but it seems that Cortex are difficult to get direct support from and chats say that I need to download firmware, completely restore hard drive and probably switch to PC! Well, that isn't going to happen. Anyway, lets assume you get around this bug, still don't be deceived by the pictures with an ipod neatly plugged into a 'dock' either. There is no such thing. It's just a usb at the top of the unit with a holder to put your ipod in. Worse still, it won't play songs saved on your ipod from itunes. You have to get software that will turn your mp4s to mp3s, and then get install more software that will then verify them for this unit. You have to change settings on your ipod to store mp3 files and I somehow destroyed my ipod in the process. And by the way, your iphone will not work with this unit. Repeat - no iphone. Such a shame as the rest of it looks great. Sorry to say though that it's like a 70's Jag. Looks great and IS great when it's working, but breaks down all the time and is a nightmare to own. P.S. Guitar Center lists this as a Gemini unit, when in fact it is a Cortex.

Great Machine!

Comments about Gemini DMIX-600 Digital Music Control Station:

I am a total amateur when it comes to DJ equipment, but I am very pleased with this unit to date. It is very portable (no laptop needed to run unit in the field), easy to operate and enough "bells & whistles" to entertain. Also, the ability to use flash drives instead of an iPod makes it inexpensive to operate.

Not a good first impression

Comments about Gemini DMIX-600 Digital Music Control Station:

I bought this unit off ebay a couple weeks ago from a reputable dealer. Everything worked fine besides the fact that it would freeze in the middle of my mixing. I did alot of research and this was suppose to be a decent unit. I triple checked my music and everything even stopped using my ipod and bought a flash drive and it still acted up. Im sending it back. Now im probably going all out getting a macbook pro and the numark ns7 with serato itch. The cortex is not worth the headache trust me.
