Overview

Cordoba has chosen to honor four master luthiers whose work has shaped the history of the nylon string guitar over the past 150 years, inspiring generations of guitar builders. Each Master Series model is a replica of an iconic guitar representing significant moments in the careers of Antonio de Torres, Hermann Hauser I, Miguel Rodriguez, and Manuel Reyes. Handmade with premium materials in Cordoba's California Workshop, Cordoba has partnered with Kenny Hill to examine the original guitars, poring over nuances and specifications to get inside the mind of each maker. From Torres' signature 7-fan bracing and unique small body design, to Hauser's famed 1937 model used by Andres Segovia, the Master Series allows today's players to get their hands on a slice of guitar history at a fraction of the cost.

The Torres Classical Guitar features a solid Engelmann spruce, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, and Spanish cedar neck with an ebony fingerboard. Other appointments include an Indian rosewood binding and bridge, a rope design wood top purfling with 3-ply back and sides purfling (maple/ebony/maple), and an all-natural mosaic rope and herringbone marquetry rosette. It also comes with gold Gotoh tuners with ebony buttons and a hardshell Cordoba humidified archtop case.

Comments about Cordoba Torres Classical Guitar:

Let me jump straight into it:

    Tone/Timbre:
This is the main strength of this guitar. It has this beautiful old-world tone that you don't find on many classical guitars these days that makes me feel like I'm being transported back to Spain in 1856, which makes it hard to put this guitar down. The basses are surprisingly deep for a smaller instrument, but are not overwhelming. The trebles are very colorful, luscious, warm, yet bright/articulate without being harsh. Because of the small body, the trebles effortlessly bring out the melody line. Somehow Cordoba (or Torres) was able to produce a full, warm beautiful sounding guitar while having stark clarity, while other guitars have to trade off one or the other. The guitar also has great sustain, and is rich in overtones. The YT videos don't do much justice to the tone of this guitar.

Volume/Projection: This guitar is no double top or lattice brace, but this tiny guitar has serious power this will surprise you fresh out of the case. More importantly, I would say it has more projection than it does volume, due to its clarity and prominent treble response.

Balance: Many guitars start to lose clarity and presence in the higher frets, but this guitar remains really consistent and its trebles still shine effortlessly in the higher positions.

Playability: The c-profile neck, neck width, scale length, narrower string spacing, smaller body, action set up, etc. make this guitar a dream to play. I am 5'6" with smaller than average hands and find this guitar a perfect fit, however it felt a bit awkward and took some getting used to at first. After I started using it with the Barnett magnet guitar support, it felt perfect. Bigger individuals might find this guitar too small and awkward, so be sure to try it first, or at least have a good return policy.

Overall, if tone and playability is your chief concern then this guitar will be hard to beat even at higher price points.

Guitar center also packed my guitar EXTREMELY well
