Unplugged the sound of this guitar is beautiful. It is almost as loud as my Martin OOO28.I'm almost exclusively a fingerpicker but I tried the La Playa with a pick and while it is not as loud as a full size dread, it is adequate for any type of solo playing. Some or most, short scale guitars sound very ricky ticky and are best suited to styles of music that are compatible with a crude sound. The La Playa can match any steel string in beauty of tone. I play mine in open tunings for celtic music and it sounds great. Plugged in, the sound is the same as unplugged only louder.I pull the treble sider all the way daown to get rid of quackyness. The resulting sound is warm and natural. with the treble on, the tone is suitable for slide playing. At 23.25" the scale isn't overly short. It's like a regular guitaar with a capo on the second fret. The guitar's body is closer to a parlor guitar than to most travel guitars. They say it fits in an airplane overhead compartment, but I bet it's close. A big part of the La Playa's charm is the fact that it looks more like a classical guitar than a steel string. It's like a stealth steel string. But inside it's all steel string with scalloped x bracing and a hardwood bridge plate. I wouldn't change anything on this guitar. If you are looking for a good short scale or travel guitar, I definitely recomend this one.

Almost a good idea...Very comfortably designed and well balanced, but the attention to detail in build and finish is poor.
My gripes: Strings were so corroded they were black. Flecks of debris under the clear finish on the top of the guitar. The nut slots looked like they were hacked out with a jack-knife. Flat fretboard radius and non-compensated saddle may be ok for classical but not for steel strings - it intonates poorly - tune the guitar, finger a D chord, and the chord is out of tune. The electronics perform adequately - distinct 'piezo quack' but that's to be expected - too bad they didn't include an on-board tuner as well.
It will fit in your trunk of your car but not in the overhead of a plane, so not an ideal 'travel' instrument.
With a little time, work and/or investment this would make a very good student guitar. New strings. Properly cut nut, upgrade to a compensated saddle, but I think the purchase price is too high to bother. You can buy some exceptionally made instruments for $300 these days. For about 5$ more cost and higher quality control, Cordoba could have made this a very compelling instrument.

    I Really Like This Guitar!!!!!!!

    By Ms. Samantha Hawkins

Comments about Cordoba La Playa Travel Half-Size Acoustic-Electric Steel String Guitar:

This is easy to play, super fun to learn on, and boasts a really impressive tone. I heard about this guitar in connection to one of my fave artists, Donovan Frankenreiter, so I gave it a try. Nice to get a guitar that doesn't cost all that much (Gibson/Martin price) but still sounds like any solid top should. The carrying bag is pretty handy too and unique. I get plenty of compliments on my new guitar even with its matte finish. Would highly it to people of all musical stages and backgrounds alike!!!!!*

Comments about Cordoba La Playa Travel Half-Size Acoustic-Electric Steel String Guitar:

This guitar truly kicks butt. This guitar is easy to play even for me a beginner. It has a nice tone...loud and definitely not boxy. I was also pleasantly surprised by the soft case it came with and strap!!! I say that if this quaint little guitar works for musician/surfer extraordinaire Donovan Frankenreiter it can certainly work for me too. Loving it and I've been recommending it to every musical amateur and VET I know!!!!

Comments about Cordoba La Playa Travel Half-Size Acoustic-Electric Steel String Guitar:

This is a great guitar. Great sound..not too thin. The sound is bright, with enough bass. The fretboard is easy to manoeuvre and the 12th fret at the body join gives the guitar the resonance
and responsiveness many guitars do not give.
The fine quality cedar top is a powerful attribute for this size guitar. I have two of these,a nylon string and a steel string.
The included case is equally well made, looks good with creative colours and design.
Thank You Musicians Friend for the fine service.

        Cordoba Rawks

        By Ray Spann

        from Los Banos, CA

Comments about Cordoba La Playa Travel Half-Size Acoustic-Electric Steel String Guitar:

I wanted a small traveling guitar and when I saw that Cordoba had an instrument in this category I jumped on it. I own a GK Studio and the CM Uke and now the La Playa. I knew I would love it based on the quality of the other Cordobas I own, and I was so right. The real wood, the full size neck, the amazing sound, and more make this a great guitar not just a traveler. I fully intend to use this on stage.

        Definitely portable

Comments about Cordoba La Playa Travel Half-Size Acoustic-Electric Steel String Guitar:

I wasn't too sure what to expect from this little guitar. I've only had dreadnaught guitars. I never had one so small, so my expectations were tempered. I travel and live out of hotels for work, so I got tired of lugging around my dreadnaught. When I received this guitar, it definitely sounded like what I would expect from a small guitar. Not good. Also, it was difficult to play because of the cheap strings and the high action. I don't know what kind of strings they were, but they were terrible. Well, I decided to switch to Elixir Custom Lights (Elixirs are my string of choice), and then day turned into night. The guitar seemed to come to life. The lows are deeper and the highs are brighter. I hope Cordoba reads this and changes the strings that they put on this guitar. And maybe a pick guard too, considering that this is a steel string. I would definitely pay more if those two things were changed. The little mini amp is useless. Get rid of the amp and change the strings Cordoba!

The new love in my life! "La Playa Steel String".. Thank you Donavan Frankenreiter!

Comments about Cordoba La Playa Travel Half-Size Acoustic-Electric Steel String Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for 32 years and have never owned a low priced guitar of such high quality. Cordoba is my new guitar favorite! unfortunatly the pictures dont do this guitar justice, the tone is rich and balanced with good intonation, the playability is excellent, the feel of the neck is like a standard sized guitar w/1- 3/4" inch nut.The size is perfect!More like a 3/4 size over all. And it's sound fill's a room without useing the Amp! Pluged into my VOX AGA 150- It rivals my Taylor and Martins and my Lag aswell. The Travel Amp is cool and has a head phone jack. This December it will accompany me on a trip to South America, the high quality little Amp that is included is worth it's weight in gold as is the travel bag, this set up goes no problem in the over head carry on in any aircraft.Buy one for yourself and you will agree. This guitar is a must have for any serious musican- period. And blows away the competition with ease!

If your anything like me, you cringe at the idea of taking you serious guitar out into the elements alla local park or beach. This guitar is perfect for impromptu practice sessions at the park or a jam at the beach.
