Intonation Fixed!

By Don

from Indianapolis

Comments about Cordoba Koa CE Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Finally got a little down time to sit and work on my guitar before Christmas. I've been frustrated because I couldn't get a stable tuning, intonation was off, and then I broke an A string. So I put on a new set of strings, and still couldn't get a stable tuning and the guitar just sounded dead. Basically, the intonation Was driving me crazy. I had the guitarshop adjust the action about 6 months ago, but, I still was a little frustrated with the sound, and didn't really notice any improvement. Anyway, I spent some time a while ago setting up another guitar I own, so I decided to look at this setup. The string bridge at the sound hole side didn't have notches in it, and I noticed the nylon strings were sliding side to side. If you move them, the string doesn't vibrate at a fixed point, and, depending how hard you pick, you move the string, moving it out of tune. So, I marked the bridge string locations, I loosened the strings, bought a round smooth file, (tapered about the size range of the strings) and made nice firm notches to fit each string, and also relieve the string as it drops to the ball end. I put it together and, the sound I've been waiting for is there! The sound is twice as loud, distinct, perfect intonation, and 100x as crisp. I've read on line some frustrated setup with this guitar, and, one guy 'Flipped" his bridge which mysteriously fixed the problem. What probably helped him, the steel strings notch the support and when he flipped it, it locks down the position of the nylon strings. Looks like I'll do my own setup from now on, and save some money. Take your time and don't worry about modifying the saddle support. Be very careful with the ribbon underneath the saddle for the active pickup. I have a digital picture if you want one! And this was interesting, my digital picture shows "bubbles" in the nylon strings! Might be a good way to identify manufacturing quality of the stings, just take a digital picture! Bubbles change the weight, and stress on the fibers. Don

Comments about Cordoba Koa CE Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I didn't purchase this guitar(didn't have the $$$), but I love it. The sound is warm and balanced. The neck feels comfortable and it looks elegant. The craftsmanship can't be beat. If I had the money, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Cordoba Koa CE

By Tim Hagler

from Seattle,Washington

Comments about Cordoba Koa CE Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I just purchased the Cordoba Koa CE. I found some intonation problems but I just flipped the saddle and changed to high tension strings and BINGO intonation problems cured. The workmanship is excellent, as is the over-all design. The electronics work pretty well. I couldn't be happier with a classical guitar than I am with the Cordoba Koa CE.

Beautiful koa, warm overtones

By Ki ho'alu Kid

Comments about Cordoba Koa CE Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing this guitar since Christmas 2007, and I couldn't be happier. I play mostly in dropped bass tunings (like Hawaiian slack-key C-Wahine or Taro Patch), and the solid koa lends warm overtones that give the music great depth and presence. The guitar plays well up and down the neck, and sounds great unplugged and even better plugged in, even with an inexpensive acoustic amp. A great value for a well-made guitar with solid tone woods. Nice looking, too.

Looks good but bad intonation

By sbach

from Elizabeth, CO

Comments about Cordoba Koa CE Classical Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I don't know if all of these Cordobas have this problem, but the one I bought had bad intonation as I got higher on the neck. Also, it did not come with the Humicase that was supposed to be included under features. It would be a great guitar if the luthier had set it up properly. There is no way to fix the intonation once it has been finished. Since it won't stay in tune up the neck, every other good thing about it doesn't matter. Also, since that case isn't included, then why is it still listed as being included. I sent the guitar back after several days when I was sure that the intonation was bad and was told that the case wasn't included. That's what made my rating 0.5 worst.
