Overview

The GK Studio Negra is the ultimate gigging instrument. Built with a solid European spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides, this nylon string guitar comes equipped with a soft cutaway and Fishman Presys Blend pickup. The GK Studio Negra is a flamenco guitar made for the stage, constructed with a slightly thinner body depth, neck, and nut width than a traditional Spanish guitar. The neck is designed to have little or no relief, offering low action for ease of comfort and quick playability.

For flamenco players, this model offers a bassier and more robust tone in contrast to the bright, snappy sound of ‘blanca’ flamenco guitars, but any guitarist looking for a new tone to add to the repertoire will feel right at home with the GK Studio Negra. With its comfortable body shape and classic tonewood combination, this model is the perfect choice for exploring the nuances in sound that can only be captured with nylon strings.

Like every Cordoba guitar, this model also has a two-way truss rod built into the neck. Other features include a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, high gloss finish, clear golpeadores (tap plates), and premium Savarez Cristal Corum strings. The GK Studio Negra includes Cordoba’s deluxe gig bag.

I received my GK Studio Negra late June after a much anticipated wait, but finally it has arrived at Guitar Center. I purchased mine from guitar center and the guitar experts at GC worked so hard in collaboration with Cordoba to get this model to me before it was available online. Ive owned this guitar for less than 4 weeks and have to say is superb to hold. Dont let the Spanish Flamenco Body Depth fool you, it is light, comfortable, thinner body but boast a deep, rich, full sound that you wouldn't expect to come from its size. Don't get me wrong, compared to a dreadnought acoustic guitar it holds very little ground, but by itself or amplified with the amazing fishman electronics it possess just outdoes itself. At first I was really gentle with it but after a week or so just got into it and this guitar can take a licking (no pun intended). It is very durable so far but im not afraid to play it at its full potential with the lifetime warranty (with a purchase of a HumiCase) from cordoba, which extents Guitar Centers warranty as well from i believe 3 years to 10 years from pretty much anything. Right out of the box the guitar looked immaculate, but after further inspection there were some little issues. The pick guard had a stain on it probably when installing it, thinking it was on the guitar i was able to lift the guard up and it was on the guard not the guitar. Cordoba has then sent me a free replacement which GC will install for me. The action was great and low but as all guitars could use a set up with an expert. The tuning keys are beautiful black with gold, the only part was some of the gold leafing was missing upon very close inspection and was nothing but cosmetic. Some of the individual keys were a little tight but can be adjusted. You really cant go wrong with a Cordoba, affordability with beauty and function. Not to mention, great customer service. Every email i sent them was replied quickly and professionally, also to get a guitar before it was listed on sale is just phenomenal. Thanks.

I bought the Cordoba Fusion 12 off the rack at GC. Didn't notice the insane rattling until I got home. Thought new Savarez strings might do the trick to remove the buzz, but it didn't. Took it to a luthier who showed me that the bracing inside the guitar was terribly loose. He strummed, pushed down on the body, and the buzzing stopped. Returned it at GC where the salesmen strongly recommended the GK model. The second I strummed it I could hear the same buzzing. I called one of the salesmen over to have a listen and he could not deny how horrible the vibration was. Could it be that both these Cordobas were just thrashed from being over-used floor models? Possibly... Other reviewers seem to like this model, but they seem to have all ordered them online. I will offer this piece of advise - be cautious with Cordobas. The models I bought/played rattled like no other. The luthier said that even without the rattling, the construction alone is not worth 700.00.

Great Overall Guitar - Not Just Flamenco!

By Gregory Hathaway

from Santa Monica, CA

I picked up this guitar a few days ago, and am completely in love with it! I play many different styles including classical, flamenco, jazz/bossa nova and blues, and I find that this guitar is perfectly well suited to all styles. The playability of the instrument is incredible - the thin neck and low action mean that I can play much longer with a lot less hand/wrist pain, and with a lot less "scrabbling around" on the neck. And I love the sound, both acoustic and electronic. Acoustically, each note has good definition with nice crispness in the tenor range and deep bass (the reason I bought the Negra). The Fishman preamp is excellent with plenty of adjustability to fine tune the sound for any style. I also find the construction and finish nearly flawless. For a fairly high-level amateur player (if I don't mind saying so myself! :-)) this guitar is perfect. Not being a true flamenco player, I'm probably not qualified to make a recommendation based solely on that style of playing, although I can't imagine why it wouldn't be great for that too. But as an all-around nylon string guitar, I recommend it very highly and think it's worth every penny! gh

The Guitar worth to have

By Issaic Russo

from Astoria, NY

when i walked into the store and tried guitars around the 600 dollar mark, there were a few guitars that sounded good. But the GK studio negra stood out from the rest and had a fine tone to it. Great sound and nice guitar for the price, the one i ordered had a good amount of action and wasn't buzzy, overall i am pleased with my purchase would recommend to a friend any day!

A joy to Play

By John Chamberlain

from Midlothian, VA

This guitar is beautiful instrument! It has good action which makes it comfortable to play and I think the sound (low and high end) is very pleasing. This is my second Cordoba guitar purchase and I am quite impressed with the quality of these guitars. I am recommending the Cordoba brand to my students because of excellent quality and value that this company offers. John Chamberlain Midlothian, VA

Best Decision Ever

By Emilio Ufret

from Gainesville, FL

This guitar's sound is absolutely amazing. It plays every single note clearly, distinctively and beautifully. The low action makes it extremely easy and comfortable to play, and I find myself being able to play for longer periods of time with substantially less stress on my wrist and fingers. I even find it hard to put it down sometimes, it just feels right when I hold it in my hands. At this point, its looks are merely a plus, but I don't mean to take anything away from the craftsmanship and artisanship that Cordoba Guitars puts into their instruments. The dark tone of the rosewood back and sides contrasting with the light toned spruce top, along with all it's other details that do not lack attention make for a truly magnificent sight (and sound, although I already said that. But I'll repeat it, in case you had any doubts.). It's worth every penny, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a great sounding nylon string guitar for a price you just can't beat.

Great basic flamenco guitar

By Arnold Fellman

from West Bloomfield, Michigan

About 3 weeks ago, I purchased the GK Studio Flamenco along with a Fishman 60 Watt Loudbox Mini Pro, after being allowed to play with both at The Guitar Center acoustic studio. This was intended as a second flamenco, as I own a very nice Spanish hand made ABF flamenco, which street prices for 7 x what I paid for the Cordoba. I am quite blown away by the apparent quality and the ease of playing of the GK. I am also quite thrilled with the amplification with the Fishman electronics, both in the guitar and the Mini Pro. The 50 mm wide and relatively thin neck on the GK are perfect for my small hands. The tonal qualities are quite good and reasonably well balanced, especially with the Savarez Hi Tension strings that come standard. I wish Guitar Center had had the next level up GK Pro to compare with, but at twice the price as this, I'm not sure that the wood and electronics differential would have made that much difference. I am enjoying this bit of "electric" quality, and though not traditional, it's a heck of a lot of fun and rewarding, and I can hit the strings more gently without losing the punch I want. In fact I gain a unique level of emotional feel of the sound when amplified this way instead of bare or using an external mic. I would definitely recommend this guitar, the Fishman amp, and the ease of doing business with Guitar Center.

Well worth the $

By David Binder _

from Boston, Ma

I have had the guitar for about a week and have enjoyed playing it each day. As an acoustic instrument it is fairly robust sounding considering the thin design but it really shines when plugged in. I purchased the Fishman Loudbox Artist along with the GK Negra and can't get over the stunning tones being produced by the combination of the two. The presys pickup sounds amazing. The neck is quite comfortable, guitar is light weight, action is good right out of the box. My only complaint is that my spruce top is darker on one half than the other and there is also what appears to be a burn mark or naught on the lower half in one spot. I was going to return it in exchange for another one but because I so love the tone and playability of this particular instrument, I have decided to just live with the cosmetic imperfection. If not for that, I would give it 5 stars. Buy it and enjoy!

GK Studio Negra, WOW what a great Flamenco guitar!

By DENNIS SIGALA

from Miramar Beach, Florida

I just received this guitar, and it is sweet. The sound is full, bass tones really stand out. Single notes are distinctive all with same volume no matter where on the neck, I searched many guitars in this price range,Tried, Yamaha, Takamine to name a few, even Taylor but they cannot compare to the playability and full depth of tones that give this guitar my vote for 5 stars. I highly recommend this guitar. especially for those that a re wanting to play Flamenco style. Really awesome guitar, Thanks Cordoba!
