Overview

One of the original models in Cordobas Luthier series, the Cordoba C9 is built with the choice of a solid Canadian cedar top or solid European spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides. The C9 features a fan bracing pattern, which gives the center of the soundboard more surface area to vibrate and respond to the tension of the strings. A more responsive soundboard makes the guitar louder, and provides better tone. The C9 is the perfect choice for the serious classical guitarist, or for any player looking to upgrade to a concert-level instrument at an affordable price.

Like every guitar in the Luthier series, the C9 is built with Spanish heel construction, where the top of the guitar is attached to the neck, the sides are added next, and the guitars body is sealed by the installation of the back. This construction feature allows the entire instrument to vibrate as one unified piece. The C9 has the neck shape and flat fingerboard characteristic of traditional classical guitars, and includes the added benefit of a two-way truss rod built into the neck. Cordoba recently expanded upon the C9, offering two new options that appeal to guitarists from all backgrounds: the C9 Parlor, which has a 7/8 size body shape and 50mm nut width, and the C9 Crossover, which is a full size guitar with a slim neck profile, radiused fingerboard, and 48mm nut width.

Aesthetic touches like the mother-of-pearl weave rosette inspired by a 1920s Domingo Esteso guitar add a touch of vintage elegance to this best-seller. Other premium features include an rosewood fingerboard, rosewood bridge, high gloss finish, and Savarez Cristal Corum strings. The C9 includes Cordobas lightweight polyfoam case.

I am a semipro classical guitarist and needed a better gig guitar. I needed to have a decent classical to save my concert guitars from road rash and amplify. This guitar is not in the same league as my luthier built Thomas Fredholm or Antonio Raya Pardo, but it is a great student guitar. I fitted mine with the K&K classic pro transducer and put it through my LrBaggs preamp and Roland AC60. All in all a well built guitar with a respectable sound and feel. This is a great guitar for students and working musicians. The cedar top is thin and close grained, tuners are tight and accurate. The bone nut and saddle are well constructed. The finish is thin and allows the top to vibrate freely, ebony fretboard is dark and good quality. Frets are good sized and well dressed. I have owned a Yamaha CGX-171cca and this guitar is much better built. I recommend Cordoba Cadet, C5 and C7 for my students and decided to get one for my self.

Great Value & Sound.

By Alton Chan

from Frisco, Texas

Comments about Cordoba C9 CD/MH Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar:

I gave up guitar playing when I went to College to major in Piano Performance, sold my Japanese Classical and Epiphone guitars then. 37 years and three music degrees later, I decided that it's really high time for me to get back to playing the guitar again. I visited various local Guitar Center at least once or twice a week to try out different guitars for about a month. Everytime I got to the store, I always checked to see if they had a Cordoba C9 first, and if they did, I would start playing the pieces/songs I still remember how to play on that instrument. Then I would tried other classical guitar brands like Orpheus Valley, Yamaha, La Patrie, Rodriguez, etc. to compare sound and price. I must say that what impressed me most about Cordoba C9 is that it is a pretty balanced guitar in terms of the low, mid, and high registers. And among the three registers, Cordoba's prominent strong bass can rival other more expensive guitars like the Rodriguez. Don't let the "Made in China" curtails your desire of purchasing this instrument. China in recent years has made big leaps in produing very fine quality string instruments (violins) and pianos. At the end of my one month's search, I could no longer wait to buy this guitar. Now, I pick this guitar and start playing everyday. Hours pass by without me noticing it.

WONDERFUL YET AFFORDABLE GUITAR.

By Adso

from Blacksburg, VA

Comments about Cordoba C9 CD/MH Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar:

This is an all-solid wood guitar with a great sounding Canadian cedar top and beautiful solid mahogany back and sides. It's light but wonderfully resonant. It has a powerful yet exquisite tone with rich bass and balanced and bright treble. It stands out over other guitars at this price range; no wonder it was picked and reviewed highly by the acoustic guitar magazine. I just got one for myself and I was impressed by how strongly I felt on my chest the vibration of the instrument as I played. This guitar is like a concert level instrument for the advanced student or a serious amateur at an unbelievably reasonable price. The finish is pretty and well done. The ebony fretboard is beautiful and fretting it feels very nice. The tuners are high grade, the type that you'd see on high end concert guitars and they are pretty and precise to the cent. The mother-of-pearl and ebony rosette is just gorgeous and makes you want to play more as you pass by the guitar while it's on the stand. In short, if you're a serious student of classical guitar, this is the guitar for you. If you don't have ten thousand dollars for a guitar but still want a guitar resonant enough for performance you can now get it for much less and still obtain a great instrument.

Rich Warm Tone & Beautifully Made

By Kathleen Gentry

from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about Cordoba C9 CD/MH Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar:

I have been looking for quite some time for a well made classical guitar without breaking the piggy bank. I checked on youtube and listened to several brands of the classical guitars. Of course I went into music stores too, but most did not carry a wide variety of the Cordoba's for me to test and play. Finally, when I saw the Cordoba C9 CD/MH on youtube my heart just melted and I kept viewing this video over and over again and finally contacted Guitar Center and request the guitar to be delivered there for pick up. Once I arrived and opened the box "I was so amazed with its beautiful shine and the warm sound of the strings". The video does not do it justice in the looks of this guitar. I also purchased the Humidipak (humidity control system) and I read that in time with good care to the guitar that the sound quality will continue to get better as is such the case with this guitar...the sound is even now a bit warmer and richer than I had ever hoped for. This guitar is very light weight (as it should be). Such a delight to play!!

Beautiful sounding and looking guitar

By Rod

from Houston, TX

Comments about Cordoba C9 CD/MH Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar:

I am a beginner and had been looking for a classical guitar under $1000 for a long time. It had to have the sound I was looking for and had to look great too. This is it! The sound is perhaps not as full as more expensive guitars but it has a wonderfully rich and resonant tone. The cedar sounds better than the spruce version but that's personal preference. In fact it sounds better than many much more expensive guitars. It has a beautiful finish in every respect. The rosette, the purfling, the tuners, the finish, the color of the wood - cedar and mahogany. I had tried guitars up to $1400 and more and this is the one for me.

Wow! - and not just for the price

By Dwayne Wolf

from Pearland, TX

Comments about Cordoba C9 CD/MH Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar:

I had been looking for a rosewood / cedar classical. I sought that wood combo because at least for steel strings, that's the only combo that gives me the fullness in the bass response that I crave. I tried many classicals costing way more than this, and I found a few RW/spruce guitars that I liked, but much much more money. I saw this mahogany / spruce combo hanging at GC and tried it on a whim. I was absolutely blown away! I had to look at the wood a few times to convince myself what I was holding. The sound is extremely full, warm, with plenty of bass kick in addition to a good zing on the treble side. This guitar definitely sounds on par or better than guitars costing 3 times the price. The playability is also very nice. It's a traditional classical of course, but the action is much lower than many of the traditional classicals. The neck is straight, fit and finish perfect, and the truss rod is a plus. And for me, the laquer finish (rather than french polish) is also a bonus. I'm very pleased with this instrument, and despite its price (it is the cheapest guitar I own) it's definitely going to one of my most-played guitars.

Returning to my musical passion after 35+ years

By Ed Krohne

from Austin, Tx

Comments about Cordoba C9 CD/MH Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar:

I'm currently in my late fifties. I used to play a Yamaha classical in the old days. I recently picked up the guitar again, and am serious about learning new classical pieces. While I have a Taylor 214 for folk and soft rock, it just didn't have the qualities I wanted for classical. The Cordoba C9 is just what I needed/wanted. I doesn't break the budget when looking for a quality classical guitar, but provides the sound I haven't been able to find for twice the price. If you are looking for a moderately priced guitar with the sound of one with a big price tag; this is the one for you!

Exquisite Instrument

By Rebecca

from Bristol, TN

Comments about Cordoba C9 CD/MH Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar:

As a classically trained organist, I was looking for an instrument that would be as large and as delicate as the pipe organ. The CordobaC9 CD/MH steps into the role with ease. The entire instrument sings which I can actually feel. It accommodates my light tough with ease and yet sounds full bodied. The tone is mellow and clear; the bass and treble are well balanced. The craftsmanship is beautiful. I would highly recommend this instrument.

Found this Great Guitar by chance and very glad.

By Sandesh Bala

from Nashville TN

Comments about Cordoba C9 CD/MH Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar:

I am a beginner-intermediate level guitar player.I already have a Cordoba C7 Cutaway with electronics.
I visited Guitar Center hoping to upgrade to a little better guitar made in Spain and $1000 budget.
To be honest I had seen this C9 online at GC website, and I was not too keen on this since it was made in "China".I had no intention to buy this before stepping foot in GC.
Was I surprised when I tried it out by chance at the store?.Wow...Its as light a guitar as it can be, that too solid body guitar. The action was exactly right and everything was set up perfectly right out of the box. Most classical guitars have their action very high but not this one.
Important thing, the pictures on the websites is nothing compared to when you actually see it and play it.
I was actually not impressed by the stock photos, but the actual guitar in real life is very beautiful, very smooth surface. You have to see it to believe it and I am not joking.Tonally too this is very balanced guitar and I love the sound. All this for about $850, its a great deal.It comes with a really nice semi-hard case as well with lot of great cushioning inside the case. So now I have a C7 and a C9 in my home, I might sell my old C7 at some point in time.

Please give this C9 at least a try and do not look away because it has "made in China" label...

Regards,
-Bala

Comments about Cordoba C9 CD/MH Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar:

Playability, for me, ranks first when it comes to classical guitars and the C9 certainly fits the bill. For a full-solide guitar below $1K, the sound of this guitar exceeds expectation. The guitar would be perfect if only the aesthetics such as the binding and the rosette are more intricate.
