Not Fancy, but an Outstanding Ukulele for the Price

By Chuck Rogers

from Boulder Creek, CA

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

My new Cordoba 20TM-CE isn't fancy but it is a well-made, nice-sounding instrument at a great price. The quality of the craftsmanship wasn't compromised to achieve price. The solid African mahogany is a very good tone wood. There are much more expensive woods that could have been used, but African mahogany while less expensive is being used in many well-respected guitars. The missing expensive things like bindings would only have been for looks anyway. I like the tone which is a bit brighter than my Pono solid Ohai tenor ukulele. It came with Aquila strings which are a real favorite of today's ukulele players. I replaced the G string with an an Aquila low G string. It sounds really nice both acoustically and when plugged in. The solid African mahogany is finished beautifully and has nice grain. The fretboard is set up very well and all fret positions play cleanly (not bad for an inexpensive cutaway.) I've listened to a bunch of tenor ukuleles in this price range and this ukulele sounds and plays as well as the best, plus you get a very adequate pickup without blowing your budget.

A Solid Uke

By Devin

from Gates Mills

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

The Cordoba 20TM-CE is a very high quality ukulele. I have been playing it for several months now, and it is definitely one of the best ukuleles I have ever played. When unplugged, it delivers a clean, beautiful sound. I do not recommend using a pick on the delicate nylon strings, however. As with most ukuleles, strumming with your fingers gives it a nicer, softer ring, as opposed to the harshness of a guitar pick. The biggest weakness of this ukulele is how it sounds when plugged into an amp. I have found that it over-amplifies the sound of your fingers rubbing on the strings. Especially when finger picking , the friction between your strings and the fingers is exaggerated. Despite this one weakness, however, the Cordoba TM-CE is solid ukulele for players of all skill levels.

Great deal

By Chase

from Westminster, Ca

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

That last review had a lot of great details, so I'm not going to bore you. Traded in my recently purchased Mitchell Uke for this one, and am really happy I did. I have played guitar for around 13 years and am just beginning with the ukulele; and this is one that I can appreciate even as I gain experience. The sound quality is excellent, and I was extremely surprised when I plugged it in even though I had no intention of using the electric capability in the first place. Definitely worth the price. Plan on being happy with this one for years to come.

OK, but can be better

By Mike K

from Flint, MI

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

Don't get me wrong, I love this ukulele, but it is not perfect. For starters, one night, while it was just sitting in a stand, the bridge popped off the soundboard. Local luthier said it was poorly applied-he made a new bridge (at my request) and glued it on and now it is wonderful. Also, Nygut strings are OK, but switch to Worth Clear strings (not the brown ones) and you'll be amazed at how good this sounds. At this price, it's a steal, even for it's few problems. Even the electronics are good and I was not expecting that (although the saddle pickup keeps the saddle from contacting the wood, which is why I took that out and had the new bridge made).

Entry Level Acoustic/Electric Uke

By Greg Andrews

from Fairfax, VA

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

For a beginning player, not too serious about the instrument or performing with it, this ukulele is great. It stays in tune fairly well, has great volume, and fair tone. But for those who are looking for a bit more than entry level, this isn't the uke you are looking for. Let me highlight the flaws: 1) Overpowered midrange 2) Laminate mahogany everywhere 3) Machineheads slip when tuning 4) Not properly intonated (at least mine was not) 5) Buzzing at bridge on some notes If these things don't bother you, feel free to buy. However, if they do matter, look for your uke elsewhere (I am).

Fine Ukulele

By Jay Lansman

from Plainfield, IL

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

I purchased the 20TM-CE from Guitar Center a couple months ago and really like it. The action on the fret board is excellent;it is flat from the nut to the bridge. Very easy playing for all chords. I am also inpressed with the workmanship, very smooth finish, well built. It plays like a high end uke at a great price. I highly recommend it.

Nice sound, nice price.

By John

from Park City, UT

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

I bought this uke to use in a band, so the pickup was a big part of my needs. It works pretty well, but when ammplified, it is a little "boomy." Still sounds like a uke, but needs a little fine tuning of the EQ to get it to blend. Easy to play (I use a guitar tuning so I don't have to re-invent the wheel) and it makes a nice addition to the ensemble sound.

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

I all started back in 2004 on a trip to Hawaii, I fell in love with ukuleles, I bought a cheap one, those you buy on the hotel lobby and such. Years passed, and I wanted a ''real'' ukulele. One day just browsing around my local Guitar Center I came upon this beautiful Cordoba 20TM-CE Ukulele, I just stayed there playing it for hours at the store and after about 4 hours I asked told one of the clerks that I wanted to put it on lay away. It took me 3 months from my allowance to pay it off...And oh boy the day I finally took it home...WOW. It's just perfect, professional, beautiful, elegant, perfect sound, it blew me away. I extremely recomend it to anyone who is starting to play this beautiful instrument or is a ''pro'' at it. Congrats Cordoba, it's truly a master piece.

Great sound for a pretty affordable price!!!

By Mark Kristiansen

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

I have been playing guitar since I was 14 and decided to branch out to learn the ukulele. After extensive online research, I decided to try this one out and see how it sounded. I was pretty impressed with this uke from the get go. I found way more positive reviews about it than most others in this price range and that it includes a pickup is really awesome! It sounds pretty good and is a nice extra in case you wanna hook up to an amp (although I do recommend to cut back a little on the treble, I think it sounds better that way!). The mahogany sounds pretty fantastic, the satin finish it really pretty, and the inlay pieces around the sound hole is a very nice touch. Feels like a very professional instrument and I find myself babying it a little. The sound is also pretty good! I've played some ukes that have sounded hollow or tinny, but this one actually sounds pretty rich for a 'new' instrument. I'm excited to hear what it sounds like in five years. If you intend to get this uke, I highly recommend to also purchase the extended warranty that Guitar Center offers too. It's only around $25 and totally worth it as it covers a whole bunch of stuff! The icing on the cake is that it also includes a pretty decent carrying case. I'm eventually planning on buying a hard case for it cause I'll be traveling with it, but its great for just storing your uke in and taking around town. Cordoba made a pretty instrument here... Congrats!

Great Uke, Better Price

By Sam Skavnak

from Minneapolis, Minnesota

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

I purchased this uke a few weeks ago, and, so far, it has proved to be an excellent value for the money. When I got it, I had originally gone in to buy the Luna High Tide concert uke and really had no intention of even looking at tenors. I played the Luna and was unimpressed with it. I noticed the 20tm-ce nearby and immediately noticed the clarity and sustain difference between it and the Luna; it had a very clear, pure tone and fantastic sustain. The action was fairly low and the neck was straight and kinda thick in comparison to other ukase but not so thick as to be uncomfortable. The floor model had iffy intonation at the 12th fret but the one I ended up buying had significantly better intonation. The electronics are excellent, at least they were in the floor model. I took off one star because regardless of how I set up my amp and the preamp controls I would get a fair amount of distortion on the C string (and on the low G string, which I installed later). I feel like the problem has to do with quality control. The other reason I took off the star was because of the tuners. In comparison with the rest of the uke they feel cheap and are very imprecise. I do like the size of the knobs, they are closer to guitar sized than the standard tiny knobs used on most other ukase. That said, the rest of the uke is solidly built, featuring heavy construction that looks like its built to last. The matte finish is immaculate with only a few blemishes and the rosette and bridge both look amazing.

Not Just for Fun!

Comments about Cordoba 20TM-CE Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

I thought it would be fun to have a Uke. My daughter was learnig Somewhere over the Rainbow with her music teacher, so I looked around to find something to accompany her as she sang. This uke has a great accoustic sound. The preamp is a plus. The construction is great, solid feel. It stays intune. Gig bag is very nice. Looks very perfessional when you travel with it.
