Cordoba GK Studio Nylon String Acoustic-Electric Guitar (583151)
Availability:

The signature guitar of the Gipsy Kings.

With a slightly deeper body than the Cordoba 55FCE, yet thinner than a standard Spanish guitar, the Cordoba GK Studio acoustic-electric guitar is an extremely comfortable nylon-string guitar for any player. The tone is bright and snappy, the action is low across the fretboard, and the neck is slightly narrowed. A Fishman pickup system gives the Cordoba GK Studio Guitar a clear and natural tone when amplified.

The acoustic guitar starts with a solid European spruce top. The back and sides are cypress—a very traditional tonewood, yielding rich, full tone with a creamy dark color. The fingerboard, bridge, and binding are rosewood, offering quick response and lasting sustain. The wooden rosette is hand-inlaid, the tuning machines are gold, and the finish is a natural lacquer, for a package that is nothing short of spectacular. The Cordoba guitar's Fishman Presys Blend electronics with onboard digital tuner offer clear and powerful amplification for intimate settings or center stage performance.
The Fishman Presys Blend pickup has an under saddle piezo and an internal microphone that can be used separately or blended together. It also features an onboard digital tuner, 3-band EQ, notch filter and phase switch.

  • Top Action & Excellence

As reviewed by Ken K. on 3/25/2010

Looked at the Yamaha Flamenco guitars, but after trying out the GK Studio by Cordoba, I was amazed. If you're shredding style is Rodrigo & Gabriela, Gypsy Kings (Tonino Baliardo), Al di Meola, Paco De Lucia or Russ Freeman, well this guitar is for you. Hands down plays better than some of the Rodriguez guitar out in the market for a higher price. The picks up are stunning the mids just bring out a stunning tone and the action is perfect. Downside is I can't find the serial number on Cordoba guitars and I've been trying to register the guitar and I've had no success. Regard-less it sounds great and plays great.

  • Amazing

Right or wrong, I always thought that in order to have a great classical/flamenco guitar you have to dash out at least 2 grands. Well, after I played GK studio, I had to change my belief! Although the side and back are laminated wood, somehow, Cordoba managed to make this model to comfortably compete with my $4500 hand made guitar (solid spruce top - solid Indian rosewood back & side). I was so impressed that I purchased two. Dumb! hardly. I know enough to say this that if this model was made by a known Spanish guitar maker out of Granada-Spain. People would have paid 2 to 3 grands for it. Now that I have two, on one of them, I removed the finger guard from the soundboard AND the side electrical unit, the sound quality has improved by some 20%. I recommend this model. I speculate that sooner or later Cordoba management will discontinue this model because the sale of this guitar will reduce the sale volume of their other models.

  • Very Happoy

As reviewed by Keith on 1/16/2011

I've had my GK studio for about a month now and love playing it. Initially, I saw, played and really liked the sound of the C5 and C7. I don't know that much about guitar construction, but cordobas seem to weigh about half of what other classical guitars do. I dont know if this weight/build discrepancy is the reason why, but the difference in unplugged sounds between cordobas and everything else in the store was night and day - the other nylon guitars (even more expensive ones) sounded muted in comparison. The reason I ended up going with the GK vs the C5 or C7 was simply playing comfort - I'm coming from a steel string background and the full on classicals felt like a much more noticeable stretch spacing and action wise compared to a steel string. I haven't had any of the problems with the guitar that other people have mentioned. The action out of the box was nice and low, the frets are fine etc. The only thing that I have noticed is that the dark stain they use for the bordering has spread and stained some of the mahogany a tiny bit. This tiny cosmetic flaw doesn't really bother me, but it does make me wonder if Cordoba is struggling with quality control issues like everyone seems to think. I haven't played mine plugged in yet, so I can't speak to that aspect of the guitar. The onboard tuner is sweet tho. Overall I love my guitar and just gave it 4 stars because for $600 I dont think there should be any issues with what you get, and the stain issue just seems like an oversight that shouldn't happen. Everything else on the guitar is pretty flawless and great.
