Overview

This 5-Piece Acrylic Drum Shield can be placed in front of your kit to isolate the sound of your drums during a recording session, or it can allow you to lower your band's overall stage volume by reducing the amount of drum sound in the stage mix. It can also be placed behind the drum kit to reflect more sound toward the audience in outdoor venues. Each panel features a mousehole at its base, so it's easy to run cables for mics or e-drums through the shield.

The five 5-1/2' x 2' panels require no assembly and fit together with flexible hinges, making setup and tear down simple.

Each hinge runs the entire length of the connection, providing better sound dampening than ever before, as well as increased stability and safety.

I set this thing up all the time at my church every sunday! It is really heavy! Setting it up around a drumset is so simple. All you do is fold it when you put it away then drag it to the drumset unfold one panel then keep unfolding CIRCLING the drumset so it is balanced with itself. This people who say it hard to set up must be setting it up like a straight wall(STUPID) or trying to set it up around a 16 PIECE Kit! This takes me less than a minute to drag out and setup around a 4 piece kit. Even if it was a 8 piece kit. Still No problem. The semi holes in the bottom, really help so you could run XLRs from drum mics out to a snake or mixer. This thing really helps to cover up the drums in the church so we can EQ it how we want it in the back at the mixer. I am sure it will be really useful also if you are trying to get some quality suppressed drum practice in your house if you live with other people.

Beyond the fact that these things act like a placebo - folks see it and think the drums are quieter, and that it makes the drummer rely on monitor volume to moderate their own volume, and often end up playing louder, our church purchased one of these screens, and the hinges between the panels started breaking within one month of use. GC would do nothing to alleviate the problem, so we purchased replacement hinges from another vendor for a good chunk of money, but the new hinges do not stay attached, and the shield falls apart and has to be reassembled with each use. Most GC merchandise is quality, but this thing makes me think it is Thanksgiving every week because it is such a big turkey. Just teach your drummer to play with sensitivity and dynamics and you can save the pricey aquarium for the fishes.

Best thing since sliced bread

Comments about Control Acoustics 5-piece Acrylic Drum Shield:

I just got this. It took me longer to get it out of the box than to set it up. I also shopped prices and found for the money it was the Best Deal around. Looks great, works great what more could you want. As a record producer for over 30 years and working in many studios this is a must for any studio and stage. This will also be used for our lead player guitar area for when were running thru an amp. Jim

Helps a lot!

By Derek Frank

from Davenport, IA

Comments about Control Acoustics 5-piece Acrylic Drum Shield:

Got this so we could mic our drummer at every show for recording, without killing everyone in the audience. We use all in ear monitors and it is a perfect combonation with this. Really cuts the stage volume down. Only complaint is that it doesnt have a carrying case with it. Looks like I will have to make one!

      very happy

By North Isanti Baptist Church Greg spe

      from Cambridge , MN

Comments about Control Acoustics 5-piece Acrylic Drum Shield:

It took me two minutes to set up. Nicely heavy plexyglass, but not too heavy for one person to set up. It is not large enough to sheild the set as in the picture you see above. But it does allow me to sheild the set where I needed it most. Reading another review, I was made aware of potential trouble at the seams between glass. These sections are heavy, and the seams are flexable, so be careful when folding it up and moving it. I am very happy with this purchase.

Comments about 5-piece Acrylic Drum Shield:

The plexi-glass shields arrived in excellent condition. The are covered with a protective blue film that I did not remove until I had installed the system as a part of a complete drum enclosure. The plastic hinges are already in place and properly aligned so the unit can be folded properly. I could not be more pleased.

Comments about Control Acoustics 5-piece Acrylic Drum Shield:

This has been a god send to my band. A must for any heavy hitting drummer if your band wants to play at a reasonable level during practice. Plus you can string lights along it for some cool effects. I would buy this again if needed.

Comments about Control Acoustics 5-piece Acrylic Drum Shield:

Our church decided they just had to have this because everyone else had one around their drummer. It was purely aesthetic and absolutely unnecessary. A good drummer is a musician and can control his dynamics perfectly and in balance with his band mates. This curtain creates a slap back echo. Along with the echo from the brick wall behind me and the delayed sound that I get through my monitor (required now because I cannot hear the band), I come away from each concert with scrambled brains! I finally removed the curtain, sound proofed the wall behind me, and can now play comfortably and in control my stage volume and balance with the band.

Comments about Control Acoustics 5-piece Acrylic Drum Shield:

We've had this for years, and we have 2 broken hinges left. Granted, we travel a lot. We're working on throwing those junk hinges away and attaching door hinges on them for long-term usage.

Oh, and there's absolutely no point in buying this if you don't get a top cover, and even then you have to place the drums near a wall. With all this, THEN you'll be able to reduce stage noise (WHICH actually kills the sound of the natural reverb of the drums, but oh well).
