  I put a set of elixirs on my breedlove after I bought it. I was happy with the tone and I left them on the guitar for about ten months. I'm mainly a bass player, and this is my living room guitar, so I don't change the strings every month or every couple weeks. I made the mistake of buying some cleartone strings recently. After two weeks on my breedlove, they now sound worse than the elixirs did after nearly a year. The tone dies as fast on cleartones as it does on a set of uncoated acoustic strings. The worst part is that I now have an extra set of cleartones (I bought the 3-pack and gave a set away) that I don't even want to use as a backup set. BUY ELIXIR.

• Long Sweet Spot

  I suppose those two-star reviews are valid - I've had one or two dud sets of Cleartones over the years and maybe those guys happened to get one but I buy these a dozen sets at a time and have burned through well over 100 sets in recent years. In my experience this is great string with a solid tactile feel and a long sweet spot that puts out a clear, bright sound long after other strings have given it up. I tried Ellixers a few years back and they just felt oily and slippery to me - hated 'em. I went back to Adamis lights till a buddy of mine, who puts in 5-6 nights of picking week in and week out, told me to try them - I did and have been using them since. They are a little pricey but if you gig a lot, not having to change strings every week is worth something and if you shop the web and buy in build they can be had by the dozen for under $12 a set.

• Worst sounding strings ever!

  I went into the store looking for my usual EXP's.. They were outta stock and I know that I do not like the sound of Elixers on my Taylor, so they recommended these. The salesman said he's heard great things about them and that they were comparable to the EXP's. Who knows maybe they were overstocked on 'em and were pushing to sell them... I put them on with high hopes and was greatly disappointed!!! The worst sound possible for my guitar! They sound really tinny yet flat and dull. 2 weeks later and I think it's safe to say they sound worse. A complete waste of money! At least Elixers get rid of the sting squeak, but these feel horrible and sound even worse. Stay far, far away!
