Comments about Clayton Black Raven Standard Guitar Picks:

I give Ravens a 5 because it works or not...Good firm pick... but a little wide for my liking. Pro-Plec is another choice and also wide but a little more forgiving material.
OK I am a novice and maybe someday I will have a real reason for preference (visa-vi, electric, acoustic, mandolin, guitar, banjo, ect)... meanwhile I have tossed lots of money trying to find a difference in picks.... my conclusion is that the only thing you can depend on is that the soft, medium hard ratings given by the mfg.'s is all screwed up... go to Millimeters for some consistency.. Then choose between material types… material type aside, I came up with three classes...
Very firm over 1.1mm thick (up to uber-firm 2.0)
    firm: .9 to 1.1
    medium .8 to .9
    soft under .75
Make your primary decision by MM...your call
Materials can make a difference and from my research, picks are made from all sorts of exotic materials. Currently I prefer stiffer more ceramic types. The most common exotic are the tortex...similar to Black ravens…these feel like ceramics.
Dunlop ultex is also a good stiff choice. And the fenders are a good standard.
Width is a personal preference … I have large hands and prefer a medium width of pick.
As to wear, it depends on how you play… I only expect them to wear slowly and be durable so as not to break during a session.

Comments about Clayton Black Raven Standard Guitar Picks:

Have used the .38 in this style and for a first time player I found them easy to get used to and use. They create a tinier sound but I have an acoustic guitar so it still has depth to it.

Good pick for how I play.

Comments about Clayton Black Raven Standard Guitar Picks:

I was looking for a pick on the slightly thin side and these do the trick. It took a while to find the right thickness and I think I did.

      My guitar gently weeps

      By On Backorder

Comments about Clayton Black Raven Standard Guitar Picks:

A lot of plectrum testimonials are all about, a) how they don?t slip out of your hand, or b) how they don?t break. I play acoustic folk so I don?t worry much about either of those things--what I need is expressive TONE. I don?t mean the ?bright? metallic ring that stands up to an amplified band. If I?m solo I want the rich harmonics from deep in the heart of my old Gibson, and if I?m leading a campfire group I want a happy control to smooth out everyone?s mistakes. It?s kind of awkward to explain--can an oversized black pick be ?emotional?? Jazz ravens are equally useful for moody blues, a thumpin? kid?s song, or an uplifting spiritual. A little stiff with a matt finish, they engage the strings well. Acetal is the best material ever for varying volume within a strum, and the semi-sharp beveled tip is quite accurate and responds to different picking angles. I prefer a heavy pick, but these are in the Delrin family so you?ll be happy with your usual thickness. Get a few others to play with too.

      Clayton Black teardrop

      By J-Boy/Special Guest

Comments about Clayton Black Raven Standard Guitar Picks:

These are billed as "Jazz" picks, but I use them for all styles of playing where a plectrum is called for. I have been playing for 36 years, and have gone through phases of using one style of pick or another, but for me it all came down to the fact that I was using 'regular' picks, turning them on their side, and using just the smallest edge to pluck strings with. I found these smaller teardrop picks and they fit perfectly with my style of playing. I have big hands (I'm 6'5") and I can tuck these babies under a fold in my finger if I come to a part that needs to be fingerpicked. They are cheap enough that you can try them and you won't -- you CAN'T -- go wrong.

      Great picks

      By iluvnoise

      from Medford, OR

Comments about Clayton Black Raven Standard Guitar Picks:

I gave everything 10s because, well, because it's a pick. Either it works for you or it doesn't. This pick works for me. I use the thicker gauges and the feel and control they give me are really great. One thing everyone should know that not many do: Clayton's standard shape is slightly bigger than anyone elses, and it's easier (for me) to hold on to and control. I tried the triangle but didn't dig it. The Standard Black Jazz picks are it.
