UPDATED REVIEW - AFTER 9 MONTHS

This is an updated review from the one that I did back in May of 2013. It is now the end of January '14 and I am still saying WOW to this light! I even just purchased a restock of one of these just a week ago and got it here in 3 days!

No words can describe what this light does, but I will try my best! =)

First off, the derby/outside beams. There are 6 total LED's on the inside that make up the derby effect. 2 Red, 2 Green, and 2 Blue. They are all 3 watt and pull 500 mA. In other words, they are bright! A motor rotates the 6 LED's (3 on each end of a rotating board) that rotates a full 360 degrees, and then goes back the other way. Pretty cool! Very Much like the Mini Kinta!

Second off, the center lense. There are 64 LED's total in the shape of a square. Alternating ring colors till you get to the center. There are 32 Red, 20 Green and 12 Blue. Each LED is 5mm and is rated at 20mA. The LED's come on and go off in sequence making all kinds of shapes/moving designs. There is not a motor on the center lense, so it does not rotate, it doesn't need to though. It reminds me of a Vue LED.

If you think about it, you are getting a Kinta and a Vue in this one light!

There is only one auto program, but it takes a while to get though it, so your customers will never know it's the same thing over and over haha. Just plug another one up and set to DMX Channel 1, instant Master/Slave!

Alright, this section is for those of you that will be running this light in DMX.

You will need to download/view the User Manual on Chauvet's website, but it is very simple to set up. Just set your DMX Channel, and then Boom! Magic!...There is a little more to it than that, but you get the idea.

Channel 1- Side Lenses- Colors. Think of it as a standard 3 color system. All 7 individual colors, plus 3 color switching and 7 color switching. *Note* The colors look like they should (Yellow/Cyan/White/Purple) When looking at the lense directly, but when standing behind the light, like dj's normally do, they just look like red/blue/green dots. Not an issue though if you are familiar with a derby/kinta.

Channel 2- Side Lense- Strobe. This just strobes whatever you have Channel 1 set to. Works like it should.

Channel 3- Side Lense- Motor Rotation. Half the slider is position control (ie. were the motor is behind the lenses) But the top half is "motor distance", not speed. So you can set the motor to move a small amount, or a large amount. You can not control the speed of the motor at all. Which I kinda wanted, but I'll get over it.

Channel 4- Middle Lense- Auto Programs. Set one of many auto programs for the middle lense to do. It will do the same program over and over again. Great for setting scenes!

Channel 5- Middle Lense- Auto Program Speed. Simple, sets the speed of the program chosen.

Channel 6- Middle Lense- Strobe. Strobes the middle Lense.

Channel 7- All Lenses- Auto Programs. Sets the speed of the main auto program (in non-dmx). There is only one auto program for this setting, and this slider turns it on and sets the speed at the same time. Handy for DMX guys that want an "Auto Run" Scene.

Overall, great light, wonderful design, and I can't wait to order another one!

I was excited to get this light. The two different effects is a great idea. My problem is this. The DMX control is limited with this fixture. It DOES NOT have Sound Active control via DMX. The only way this fixture can do sound active is manually setting on the fixture not giving you any DMX control in turning the fixture on and off. So matching the effects to your beats via DMX is NOT going to happen unless you manually adjust the control. Let me note that I use Chauvet ShowXpress to control all my lighting and is a great program. So unless you want to babysit this fixture and manually create scene after scene then put in timelines which won't give you much beat matching. You will have to run this fixture to a separate power control to turn on and off. If your just going to plug this fixture in and not use DMX then this is a great fixture! P.S. Another thing I would of liked to of seen in the dmx assignments was separate controls for each of the 4 derby effects individually. I believe each set has it's own led's. I didn't take the fixture apart to verify. I could see separate led's for each set looking into the fixture from the front. Being able to control the different colors for each of the four individually would made this fixture a win win hands down but sadly it doesn't.

Lots of effects as a stand-alone light (sound activated or random). Very versatile if used with a controller. Enhanced effects if smoke is used.

I bought 2 of these at the restock price and then I bought a warranty for both of them. I've had them for just over a month now and am very happy with my purchase. I've used them for a house party and a wedding (once each). I set them up in Sound Active Mode with the Master/Slave configuration so that they are in sync with each other. I then use a fog machine and a laser with them and the whole package is great! I got many compliments on them and I'm very happy with them. I would definitely recommend these as part of a set up for parties and weddings.

I bought two of these and hooked them up in a Sound Active Master/Slave configuration. I had to look up the manual online from the manufacturer website to find the instructions to set it up in this type of configuration. Once I had the manual, it was pretty easy to do. The lights are bright and the sound active mode was pretty good. I would definitely recommend using this with a fog machine, too. I bought mine on sale as refurbished units from Guitar Center and only paid half the regular cost of new ones. I also bought a warranty, just in case they stopped working. So far I've had them for about a month and they've been great! I used them for a wedding with a fog machine and a Red/Green laser and everyone was impressed (since it was my first wedding). Thus far, I have no complaints with these lights and I would definitely recommend them, even at the regular price.

Comments about Chauvet Cubix 2.0 LED DMX Effect Light:

For the price its a really nice addition to my light show, though not the WOW factor I had hoped it would be, its still a solid light, really two lights in one, as it kind of combines the Comet and a single light from the 4-play would be the best way to describe the function of this light. Would have liked to get a little more coverage from the middle main light, but I have some many other lights, I'm sure it will fit in just fine.
