As someone who regularly blew circuit breakers and/or fuses in local establishments, these are a welcome. I'm always leery about Chinese lighting electronics but they are BRIGHT and in 7 channel mode especially...flexible. The blue is great and superior to any incandescent blue we've seen. They take up less room by far but are NOT as road worthy as a regular instrument. You CANNOT throw these around like a metal par can. The hanging brackets are metal but the body is plastic like everyone else's who makes these in China (might be the same guy.) There's an LED display on the back which must be well protected along with everything else back there.
It's easy to program and get almost any color with a GOOD DMX controller, so these guys are pretty much 7 regular gelled instruments in one. Use 7 channel mode on this for extra automatic flexibility, even setting it for "sound" sensitivity from the controller. You can get away with two of these on each tree but four is a whole lot nicer.
Dimming LED lights is odd and it is sort of raggedly stepped. This might be the Elation controller however, because I remember dimming these as a kid quite successfully.
I picked up 6 of these and was a little worried about the brightness level compared to standard par 64's. I was told that they are just as bright, but may not throw as far. Being in a bar band this wasn't that much of a concern. When they arrived I was surprised just how light they are (~2 lbs each). I hooked them all up in my basement to set up the DMX controller and was very happy with the features that normal pars can't do such as strobing. We are able to use these (though may want a couple more) instead of buying dedicated strobe lights and it does any RBG color strobe. As far as brightness, we could probably use a couple more of these or upgrade to the higher priced LED lights but I am more than satisfied with the brightness and throw levels. The only complaint I do have is the inputs for both the power plug and dmx plugs seem a bit misshapen so have to kind of jam them in the first couple of times... but the connection is always secure.
Bought one of these lights to see about replacing some old fresnels at 500 watts each. The SlimPar 64 has more output for my wall flood application than the old lights. I plan to purchase many more.
