This scanner replaced my old 250 watt halogens and has many more features to offer. Pros: Gobos- Rotating, Indexable (the manual does not specify this but they are), good for projection. Colors- Split colors, very vibrant, fast movement. Almost looks like it's strobing when doing full speed. P/T- very smooth repeatable movement. Very fast as well. It can shake a light stand if you have it doing a back and forth movement at full speed. Prism- crisp edges with not a ton of loss in light output. Focus- Not a big deal for me since I do mostly beam effects, but I did use it extensively for one gig where I used a pair of these for specials. Dimming- well it does dim...but read the cons. Shutter- strobes very very fast. All electronic. Construction- made of plastic. Not sure how well it will hold up over time. Brightness- won't punch through a S4, but it certainly is a step up over 250 watt halogens that used to be in every light out there. Cons: Gobo- to change a gobo, you must remove the whole cover, LED screen, and even then it isn't that easy to get Gobos in and out of the wheel. Which they would have given you a set of Gobos for Ariel's and one for projected graphics. When spinning a gobo at full speed, it's quite noisy. Hope the gears last. Also you still need to use steel Gobos. Can't use homemade ones. LED is to hot for that. Colors- in general I am happy with the colors, however they layout is horrible. Red, white and blue should be in that order, but you have to snap a bunch of colors to get a good RWB effect. Wish they had user replaceable colors and an indexable color wheel. P/T- set channel 10 for 56 (fast movement) otherwise they try and make their own fade times and get out of synch with the DMX Prism- not rotating. Wish it was but for the price, I'm surprised they added a prism. Focus- a bit slow. Rides on a worm gear. Bit noisy but again I'm surprised they added on for the price of the fixture. Dimming-Well the dimmer is crap. It flickers very badly when you get in the low 30% during a fade. However, if your doing a static dim (vs a fade) there is no flicker. LEDs should just have mechanical dimmers till they can make a PWM that is cost effect and works well. Shutter- No complaints. Would have been nice if it was just a straight off, slow-> fast system. Makes it easier for busking if you don't have to worry about hitting the open setting at the top. Construction- bracket could have been a few inches longer. Would have been nice to rig the light completely vertically like a Martin SCX. You can do this if you mount it upside down, but then the bolt from the clamp hits the bottom of the fixture and is hard to maneuver. Brightness- no problems with it not being bright enough yet. So in short, this light is only good for DMX uses. If your gonna use an auto program forget it. The macro channel (11) is useless as well. I use this light for bands, dances, talent shows, ect all run DMX. If I need sound active I'll bring out my old scanners. Also when I was looking at this light, no one ever mentioned fan noise in a review. There is fan noise so it's not good for completely silent applications. The fan is not that loud. The prism and focus moving are louder. The menu is really hard to navigate. If your using it in DMX you can set your address and never worry about fiddling with it. Getting sound active programs up isn't the most fun. Would be nice if the light went into blackout mode when the menu was activated.

  • Good, not great..

As reviewed by Jeffry Viera on 9/16/2013

The good. :vary bright :vary smooth movement :top of the line functions like Gobo shake/spin, a prism and half colors The Bad. :The Sound Activated program is useless because there is no sensitivity control and it is set to sensitive :The Auto Fast program is way to fast :the Auto Slow program is way to slow :the control panel is on the front so you get blinded trying to adjust settings long story short if you don't plan on using a DMX controller with this scanner you should look elsewhere. if you are using DMX you will probably like this light a lot.

  • Amazing features and brightness. OMG! The brightness!

As reviewed by Jon-Paul LeClair on 4/29/2012

I have an all LED light rig and wanted to add scanners to the mix. After doing some homework, landed on the Intimidator 300 for its sheer breadth of features and incredible brightness. I finally got to put them to the test at a recent gig and they are amazing. super bright, cuts through fog/haze and really makes the stage pop. only complaint I'd have is during the auto programs and sound activation - although cool - the panning tends to swing to the extreme sides and not too much in the middle/forward. Other than that I very happy I've added these to my rig. If you're looking to step up your light show, adding a pair or more of these babies will serve you just fine.
