Overview

Southern California is a hotbed of guitar innovation, from new musical styles and sounds to hot-rodded high-performance guitar designs. The Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas Style 1 2H FR, the ideal instrument for dazzling high speed playing, was born and raised in this sunny environment. With scorching sound, stunning quilt-top style and grin-inducing playing feel and performance, this guitar was meant to be onstage.

A top-notch performer that’s tweaked with the features modern players need, this axe sports a pair of hot-rodded high-output Seymour Duncan JB humbucking pickups directly mounted to the body that crank out high octane rock ‘n’ roll tone with plenty of sweet overtones. The volume control conceals a push/pull coil split to have even more tonal variations on tap while the No-Load tone control operates like a standard tone control from positions one through nine, removing itself from the circuit at position ten for transparent sound, letting the full natural voice of the guitar shine through.

Dive to rumbling depths or add a well-placed rising harmonic without sacrificing your tuning with the Floyd Rose FRT-O1000 double-locking recessed tremolo and FRT-O1000 locking nut—simultaneously grooving on the laser-accurate intonation. The two-piece maple neck hosts 22 jumbo frets along with a pair of graphite reinforcement rods to resist bending and warping under environmental stresses. The speed neck profile is designed for lightning fast playing and completely unhindered position shifts while the comfortably rolled fingerboard edges provide the broken-in feel of an instrument with plenty of playing miles on it, and plenty more to go.

Charvels are designed with style in mind—after all, they call it show business—and the stunning solid top with a transparent finish and curves in all the right places is sure to dazzle the audience’s eyes. A Charvel neck plate, branded die-cast tuning machines and standard strap buttons complete the package, topped off with a spotlight-ready finish that shrugs off the rigors of the road. Ready to spawn waves of sonic bliss, and able to keep up with the most demanding playing, the Pro-Mod San Dimas Style 1 2H FR is a guitar that will stand the tests of time and stage. Case sold separately.

Best pro Mod yet.

Comments about Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 2H FR Electric Guitar:

I have waited through almost a year of gigging before I bothered to write a review of this guitar. I bought my 2016 San Dimas in February, the moment they hit store shelves. I went with Slime Green, as you can see. My Gear: 5 Jackson and charvel guitars (2 jap dk2m's, one Mexican DK2m, a Charvel Model 2 with a pro mod neck, and this very 2016 pro mod san dimas), and this one instantly became my favorite, my #1 guitar, despite having four other axes that are absolutely superb sounding and playing guitars. Fit, finish, quality on this are in every way equal to the Jap made Chushin Gakki Charvels, and the finish, fit, and QC are superb. So what gets the SD a five star rating from me? Mojo. Maybe it's the slightly fatter oil-finished neck (fatter than a 2015 Pro Mod - I have a 2015 pro mod neck, and definitely fatter than the Dk2M. Substantial in my hands, but slim, smooth, and comfortable. It FEELS like Rock n Roll. Tone. The No-Load tone knob is nice - If I ever decide to use a tone knob, it's there... but it's on bypass, not coloring my pickups 'til I want it, which makes it just a litte less subdued than my other guitars. I have since freed all my Jacksons from their tone knobs with wire cutters. The JB/'59 combination is excellent. I never was a JB fan at all, until I had a guitar (a jap Jackson DK2M that came with one), and now I just love 'em. They do so much so well, and are great for that 80's hair rock tone. The 59, creamy, Fat, liquid PAF goodness... And the addition of the truss rod wheel for easy tweaking. Duh. what took ya so long, Charvel???? I seriously cannot find a con for the 2016 Pro Mods. It is just that much better than all my other guitars. The Quality and playability rival US - Made Charvel/Jacksons. It's a pro-grade, sexy axe that can do anything and do it well, at a price that

Comments about Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 2H FR Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar about a month now. I have a few other decent guitars but this guitar is pretty much all I play now. 1st off. I love necks that don't have that heavy finish on them. The neck is slick and smooth, Having the purple burst I love the color and the finish of the body. The black chrome of the hardware looks great too. I big reason i wanted this guitar was the combination of pickups and the Floyd Rose. The guitar came out of the box in tune and stays in tune. With the push/pull split coil volume knob you really do get six different sounds from this guitar. Clean or dirty this guitar sounds great. If I was building a guitar from parts , The pickups, un-finished neck , Floyd Rose and color would all have been things I would select so I truly feel like a bought a guitar that was built for me . My friend bought the black burst and he loves his too. If i could say one thing people may complain about is my neck showed some dirt after a short time of playing with the lack of a glossy finish , I myself could care less about this but I guess some people do. If you play this guitar thought decent tube amp I believe you will love its versatility . I couldn't be happier.

Comments about Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 2H FR Electric Guitar:

This is an impressive guitar. I had never owned or played a Charvel and kind of took a leap of faith. I'm glad I did, because this is one of the most versatile guitars on the market.

The switching options offer a wide ranging palate of tones. From blistering 80's-90's metal/rock to glassy cleans.

The fit and finish is very good. The paint is flawless and the neck feels good. The fret ends are a little bit rough (not hanging over the edge) and could use a little polishing, but for $800+ you don't get perfection. With that said, this guitar is a superb value.

I bought the Neon Pink version to satisfy some sort of midlife crisis thing, but I would be proud to play this stunning guitar anywhere (although it will probably never leave my bedroom).

Do yourself a favor and get one of these guitars. They are fun and will inspire you to play more.

Comments about Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas Style 1 2H FR Electric Guitar:

Just a beautiful instrument all around. Very surprised at the quality level for a MIM guitar. With the coil tapping and Floyd Rose you have an endless pallet of sounds that you can get from this guitar. It plays and sounds terrific. I have loved Charvels since the 80's but never owned one until now. The two-piece maple neck is thin but not too thin. It is a little wider at the nut than a typical strat which is nice for solo playing. The finish is impeccable! Love the curly maple top. I love how Charvel listened to the complaints from players about the volume knob being too close to the bridge pickup and moved it back a little. This was always my reason for not buying a San Dimas for years! The only issue that I have found was that the 4 screws that hold the neck on were not tight enough. The neck actually moved slightly. Once tightened the issue was resolved. I have an American G&L Legacy(strat) and a Gibson Les Paul Classic Custom and I love this Charvel more than the G&L and equal to the LP! If you are considering this guitar do not hesitate. They are backordered everywhere right now but are definitely worth the wait!
