Summary of generator set performance, The Champion 100261 is a sharp looking generator, appears to be thoughtfully engineered, well built, runs smooth, and is very quiet. It started first crank, came up to speed, and after a short warm up, took light load exactly as expected.

Detailed observations setting up and running the Champion 3400 watt start/ 3100 watt run inverter generator:

- Initial Unpacking and Setup

o It was received in new condition in the original sealed box. Minimal damage to the outside of the box suggests the unit was properly handled during shipment.

o Unpacking the unit was fairly easy. I cut out the bottom of outer box lifted it off, and removed the straps from the unit‰Ûªs factory box, cut the sealing tape, and lifted the generator out of the box. Beware, it weighs around 100lbs so unless you are fit and know how to lift heavy weights, you will need help lifting it out.

o The unit includes a detailed, well written Owner‰Ûªs manual and Operating instructions a warranty card, a quick start sheet, an oil fill funnel, a smart charger, a dual port USB adapter, and a smart charger.

o After a detailed read of the Owner‰Ûªs manual, I connected the battery. Make sure you look closely at the battery, because the way the connection wires are arranged for shipping they sit above the wrong battery terminals. You will need to cut the cable tie that holds them in place during shipment and re-route and finesse the cables to their operating position. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of.

o Next I serviced the generator with oil. Using the provided funnel, a nice touch by the way, I poured in 600ml of 10w30. A check of the dip stick showed full. Note, the manual says check level with the dip stick unscrewed.

- General Observations and first start

o A quick visual inspection indicated that the design and manufacture of the generator was done with a good bit of thought. For example there is a removable drain panel on the bottom of the generator that allows the generator to be set above a drain pan ‰ÛÒ very nice for neat and clean oil changes. The oil fill port with dip stick is easy to get too, and includes overfill deflectors to keep overfill from making a mess. The access panels include externally relieved fasteners so, they stay on the panel during the removal/reinstallation process.

o At this point I plugged in the smart charger, turned on the battery, and re-installed the maintenance cover and the battery access cover. When the red lamp on the smart charger turned green, I unplugged, it rolled the generator outside and put in some fresh treated fuel.

o Not bothering to check if the included remote start unit was paired with the generator set, I went through the procedure to pair the remote devise. Pairing worked exactly as indicated in the manual.

o Starting the generator: With the battery switch on, I placed the ignition switch to the middle position, economy run to off, and pushed the remote start switch for about 2 seconds and released it. The generator cranked and fired off almost immediately and the green inverter ready lamp came on. I let the engine run for a couple of minutes to warm up, but even immediately after start the engine was running smooth steady and smokeless.

o After engine warm up I hooked up a light load and the engine speed didn‰Ûªt noticeably change. I then engaged the economy switch and the engine idled down and the load remained steady on.

o I turned off the load and turned the ignition off, and the engine smoothly shut down. After a cooling period, I rechecked the oil and topped it off with about 50ml.

- Break in and 15000 BTU Air Conditioner (AC) test

o The manual suggests a break-in period of 5 hours, at or below a varying 50% load, to seat the piston rings. I used a 1600 watt electric heater with the thermostat set so it would switch on and off to vary the load to work out the generator.

o After the break in period, I tested the generator set on my RV with 15000 BTU roof top (Mach series) that I have retrofitted with a hard start capacitor, and fan delay relay. It started and ran the unit with little more than a grunt to indicate it was picking up the load. To baseline load specification, from the ID plate on the AC unit, 10.7 amps @ 120 VAC run plus 3.4 for 1/3 HP fan motor, for 15.1 amps run current. Disregarding a big question mark for start current, it should have been good to go and it was. I had installed the high/low fan delay relays and the hard start capacitor so I could run the unit off the service I have in my detached garage, and to minimize start current.

o I ran the unit out of fuel to test how it took the stress or running out of fuel and how the engine would restart. It passed the test easy. After a cool down period, I refueled, did a remote start, and the engine started, inverter came up green, I hooked up the load, and all worked as expected.

Summary: I needed a quiet inverter generator to power my RV when dry camping. A primary requirement was that the generator would run as a minimum the air conditioner, and it did. It is well built, well designed, and is set up for easy user maintenance. It starts easy and runs smooth. It is compact, fairly easy to roll around, and at a little over 100 pounds it can be man handled. By myself I can‰Ûªt lift it into my pickup, because I am short, but I have a ramp for that. However, I can lift it to travel on the cargo rack at the back of my RV. This Sweet little power plant, if it proves reliable over the long run, will be written as a fine example of solid engineering.

I bought the 3400w model with electric and remote start to avoid going outside to turn it on. On the 4th day of our first camping trip the electric start stopped working. The battery on switch would just barely light up after a few seconds. I took the battery out and it was fully charged. Checked the battery connections but still could not get it to run. Had to pull start the rest of our trip. I think there is a bad connection in the circuitry but it's disappointing to have a brand new generator do this. I called the local service center and they're 45 days out on repairs. Only one guy who does the repairs and he's on the road for the next month. Other than that the generator has plenty of power. It runs my 13500BTU A/C just fine.

great generator !!

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Remote Start Inverter Generator:

bought this to use in our fifth wheel trailer.started right up after putting in oil, long funnel came with it, easy to service. had to hook up battery, no big deal. took it over the weekend and used it under light loads for the first tank of fuel. break in says 5 hours of light use. from inside trailer you could start and stop generator. Makes it nice for the wife ! even with the windows open it was really quite. you can stand right next to it and carry on a conversation. after breaking it in , it would run our 12500 btu AC with no sweat !

think for price it is great value and quality. will give that red unit a run for its money ! easy to wheel around and not to heavy to lift, handles well placed. nice feature is that the 30 amp cord would plug into generator with out using an adapter. Real easy to pull start.

Great Generator, AMAZING customer Service!

By Vipermandan

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Remote Start Inverter Generator:

I purchased the generator and got it broken in. First time I tried to run the AC, it overloaded. Called Champion customer service and didn't expect more than basic help, boy was I wrong. They had me test a few things and then started the process of making it right. First they were going to send me a new unit, but the engineers said it could be the control module so customer service "asked" if I was willing to try switching it out. I was so they overnight shipped the part. Now it runs like a "Champ," ha ha sorry about that. Ran the 13,500 BTU AC and the battery charger at the same time, figured what the heck and turned on ECO mode and it throttled down! Champion is sending me a "sorry for the trouble" gift and that is more than worth the trouble. I will be a Champion Customer for life. A special thank you to the rep I dealt with Brian D.

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Remote Start Inverter Generator:

I bought this for the size and price, runs everything in my 2017 24' travel trailer. It fits perfect in one of the compartment in the trailer. It is easy for me to load and unload by myself due to it's weight and size. It is also very quiet and economical even when I run the A/C. The online customer service is very helpful and knowledgeable.

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Remote Start Inverter Generator:

I bought this about a month ago, and it was my best decision yet. I use it for my rv, and it is the way better the the Honda, more wattage, quiter than the Honda and lighter weight. Plus it has a remote start which is a life saver, incase its raining or cold outside. I would totally recommend this generator to a friend.

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Remote Start Inverter Generator:

I am using the 100222 3400 watt inverter generator with my Starcraft AR-1 18QB camper. The generator is able to handle the Mach 3 13,500 BTU air conditioner in eco mode running at about 1/2 throttle. It is also able to run the Kerig coffee maker with the a/c on. It will also run the microwave with the a/c on, but not the a/c, coffee and microwave. The unit is very quiet. It cannot be heard from inside with the a/c running. As compared with the red 3000i, it is very slightly louder, but it is also producing more power. So with value in mind, I am very happy to have not paid over double for a red one.
The only con, if there has to be is the smaller fuel cell. Otherwise, we are very happy with this generator.

My generator arrived today as promised! I added oil and and gas and it cranked on the first pull. Did the recommended 5 hour break in changed the oil and hooked it to my RV. It ran everything thing including the a/c (13500) perfectly and it is as quite if not more so than the red ones. It did have a one broken plastic piece on the side but I called tech support and there is a new one on the way. Thanks Champion for a great product and great customer service!!

Can't believe I waited so long to purchase. This will be a great addition to my travel trailer. Just this past weekend temps were in the lower 90's and the campground lost power for 3.5 hours. Started right up out of carton, after small initial setup. Very well packed. Very quiet for a generator.

This is one great generator. We use it when we go camping, during power outages you name it. I like it so much that i bought another one and a parallel kit to go with it. We took the 5500 watt Honda generator out of the race car trailer and use the single Champion to run the battery charger, lights and a few other things at the drag races. When i get the other one i will use both to power the Motor Home and turn off the gas guzzling on board Onan generator. Going to order a tent cover also for when we are boon-docking. I have Honda's, Onan's, Harbor freight and a dirty hand tools generators. I choose to use the Champion over the rest because of the weight, portability and the noise that they don't make.

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Remote Start Inverter Generator:

Easy to setup. I read all the reviews of generators and was most swayed by the reviews of superior customer support. I happened to be in the market for a generator for my rv as a backup and was only looking at inverter generators. For the money, I couldn't reproduce this generator. A pure sine wave inverter, a quiet running generator, remote start, electric start, and a backup pull start...pure well packaged awesomeness.

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Remote Start Inverter Generator:

I bought this model to parallel to the 100261 with the wireless remote, so this review covers them both. I'll do another review on the parallel kit, but that was a great accessory as well.

I can honestly say that after doing a ton of research, this was the best route to go, both from a cost standpoint to ease of use. I compared Honda, Yamaha, Boliy, and several others. Its also made in China and that almost swayed me from it, but it was proven to be an unfounded concern from a quality viewpoint. I really really REALLY try to buy USA made goods, but this time the $$s were the driver.

We've been boon docking on our remote property in Colorado until we get power and finish building and these generators were our saving grace! They are easy to start, quiet, and easy to maintain. The only con I can mention is that the wheels are worthless unless you're pulling it on concrete or blacktop driveway. Maybe the design team can take a look at this as they may as well not even have wheels.

One of the best pros is that I can fire the 100261 up from bed in the morning to get the coffee pot going!

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Remote Start Inverter Generator:

Purchased the generator to run my AC in my 33 foot fifth wheel. I purchased this unit to run my RV AC and because the literature state is would run up to a 15,000 btu RV air-conditioner I purchased this model. It would not rollover the 15,000 btu AC but is would rollover secondary air condition that is a 11,500 BTU‰Ûªs. I called customer service and went through several trouble shoot procedures that did not work. The Rep state that this unit might not be able start this AC in my RV. We went camping with the generator and started to have issue with it running the 11,500 unit and it started to ideal rough. Called customer service when we got back and reached another rep and they indicated they thought it might be the computer module in the generator and they shipped me a new module next day. Problem is currently fixed and the unit now roles over the 15,000 unit. I had to do the install myself (a little frustrating but was easy enough) I have given the generator in this review three stars for due to the problems but if this is a permanent fix I would upgrade my rating it to a 4 to 5 star. Thank you Jim in customer service for your help in fixing the issue. Love the remote start
