The Cerwin-Vega AB-36C Afterburner speaker is a highly advanced design that incorporates Cerwin-Vega's 50 years of experience in building some of the industry's best-known subwoofers. Its design makes it ideal for use in the most demanding environments where pure bass power is the goal, such as installations, live sound, mobile DJs, and club applications.
With 6-1/2' of folded horn chamber length in the cabinet, the AB-36C Folded Horn Subwoofer has bass frequency extension similar to a 36" driver with even more SPL performance. The AB-36C features Stroker Technology for increased power handling, decreased distortion, and radial cooling fins. A striking die-cast door has improved heat dissipation capabilities and sports a Stroker 18 metal badge. In addition, the curved horn mouth bracing provides a smoother frequency response and the enhanced front corner bracing offers extra durability.

This sub is a 5/5 for sure, but there are plenty of "ITS SO LOUD" reviews already, here's some usful critiques: -You can only fit 1 in a mini van! If you purchase more than one of these at a time and don't own a trailer or full sized van, your going to have to make two trips! -Keep in mind that the box (beautiful box by the way) is 3x2x3 (LxWxH). This doesn't sound so big in text but man it sure is in real life. Make sure you have the square footage (and cubic footage for that matter; at 18 cubic feet a piece, you can fill a room very quickly) for one or more of these! -It is VERY loud at the very front of the horn. Cerwin Vega wasn't lying when they calculated the max SPL of one of these to be around 140 db. Placing this too close to the audience can very quickly create a 6-8 foot gap in front of the speaker where people just wont stand.. because they can't! But in all seriousness, there is good reason for the warning printed directly on the back. Prolonged exposure can and WILL cause pain and hearing loss! -Very dependent on the room it's in. Had about half the perceivable output in a 10x11x8 room (hard carpet, bass traps in the corners, burlap sound traps in the middle of each wall, speaker was corner loaded) as it did in a 50x50x15 room (concrete floors, corrugated metal roof, foam sound proofing in one corner of the room, speaker was very near the middle of the room and was only up against one wall). Give the sub room to "breathe". Small rooms will quickly choke your output. Highly recommended if your gigs are 200+ people; this sub has a VERY long throw. go with a front loaded sub if your playing for any less.
I was in an empty factory with some friends. The place was about the size of 7 or 8 football fields. I used this gorgeous Cerwin-Vega and the master volume at two...AT TWO!!!...and this thing could have blown up my ears with how intense the sound was. This thing looks like its gonna kill someone! (in a good way) I recommend this to anyone who is looking forward to bigger things now. Not just small gigs, I'm talking about huge shows.
