Overview

In the '80s, Celestion set out to develop a modern speaker capable of delivering classic Alnico Blue-style British guitar tone, but able to handle much more power and overdrive. This was achieved by coupling a Heavy 'H' ceramic magnet (the closest in performance to Alnico) with a new cone and voice coil.

The result was the Vintage 30, Celestion's most revealing speaker. It features enormously detailed and complex overtones, a warm low end, a famously rich vocal mid-range and a beautifully detailed top end. Use on its own to reveal the complexities in hand-wired boutique amps, or in a 4x12 for a wonderfully intricate three-dimensional crunch. Over the past 25 years, the Vintage 30 sound has been captured on thousands of recordings from a diverse range of players.

I've had some cabs in the past that just didn't have "it" and I wasn't sure why. They just didn't have that sound I wanted. It was a warm, thick-but-pure sound with a tight bottom end and smooth mids and highs. Once I bought a cab loaded with Vintage 30's, I realized that I'd found "it." I won't touch a cab that isn't loaded with these babies anymore. If you're looking for "it," then look no further.

These speakers are more a name then anything. They do have great low end. They do have crunchy mids. But beware of the highs. They can get brittle fast! And trying to eq that out is next to impossible. You can only cut the treble so much before the sound gets "muffled" I can see how these would be great for metal. But these are not a speaker for everyone

Just a note...

By Claytrell Hall

from B.V, CO

For what it?s worth... I just watched Warren Haynes? ?rig rundown? on anyoneyoutube and he uses a 4x cab with the V-30?s. (among other amps) I?ve always thought he?s got amazing tone.

Brings Life

By Jim Thao

from Wisconsin

The picture shown is not what you recieve, you actually get the chinese made speaker but its just a visual thing, it still sounds audibly really good so dont let that fool you. Great and has alot of character compared to my previous stock peavey. It will sound really thin and harsh at first (as with most new guitar speakers) but be sure just to play a good amount to break in the speaker cones, I usually also lie the speaker cone down for a week to let it break in, then the real sound character really shows up, it's really smooth. Good for metal.

A speaker for all genres

By edward brodit

from Monterey California

I replaced those HORRIBLE stock Eminence speakers in my Diezel oversized 2x12 cab with V-30's, and the difference is like night and day. It can cover a wide range of tones, from crystal clear clean tones for Funk and Pop, to slashing high-gain Rock tones similar to Guthrie Govan. Even super technical Jazz players would have no problem with these speakers. My Ibanez GB10 and GB200 (George Benson signature archtops) sound just as good, if not better, through my V-30 loaded Diezel cab (with Peavy JSX head), than any of those little Fender combos Jazz players use. All in all, a great speaker for any genre of music.

Wide spectrum of tones

Love it!!

By Spencer Timmons

from Rockford, IL

I bought a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe that had a Celestion Vintage 30 already isntalled (yes, it was bought used). I absolutely love the tone. A friend of mine has a Fender Deville 212 without a celestion and we often compare tones. We both agree the V30 sounds so much better than the stock speaker in Fender amps. As soon as you put the V30 in, you will definitely notice a much better tone. It gives a really warm sound. The clean channels are absolutely amazing and the drive channels are really great as well. I absolutely love using a Fulltone Fulldrive with my amp. It really takes the tone to the next level. I highly recommend upgrading if you haven't already.

Yes yes yes

By greg

There's a reason why Eddie switched back to these! Even after coming up with his own brand Celestian. Replaced them in my Marshall 2.12 1936 lead cab. It sounded great before but now its just untouchable! Put this cab against anything out there and you will loose. Maybe a jazz player might like something else but who plays jazz anyways? Handles all else with authority!

The vintage 30s sound great in my combo amp. Warm with tons of bottom end. Leads sound strong. Just the way they should.

Celestion Vintage 30

By FireInCairo82

from Portage, IN

I found Vintage 30 in stock at a Guitar Center 45 minutes from me. I have a Fender Roc Pro 1000 Combo 1*12 and a GE412 cabinet. I replaced the stock Fender speaker in the combo with this one. WOW. I will no longer be looking for a new head. I couldn't be happier. The difference is ridiculous. We play everything from Prince to Marilyn Manson; it handles it all. The dirty channels are beautiful and the clean is sparkling. All the talk about Celestion losing quality by outsourcing is rubbish. Buy it, you will not be disappointed. I can't wait to to finish my GE412 with Vintage 30's and Greenbacks in an X pattern.

Just what I was looking for

By Bucky Duster

from B-More Maryland Hon!

The Celestion Vintage 30 speakers have a nice FAT magnet that doesn't saturate quickly so the speakers response curve stays consistent even at high volume levels. They have a really nice balanced Midrange, solid low end and highs that are never shrill or "brittle" sounding. Just pop four of these into a Marshall 1960A or 1960B cabinet and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Excellent speaker

By Nick

from Glen Mills, PA

Put this in an Egnater 1x12 cab stacked with another Egnater 1x12 with stock Celestion Elite 80. Wow! This speaker is very revealing, and has added a wonderful balance and definition to the other Celestion cab. Never read a bad review on this speaker, and now I know why. Well worth the money!
