Overview

The original G12M of the 1960s was Celestion's first guitar speaker to use a ceramic magnet and paved the way for high power guitar amplifiers. The G12M uses a medium weight magnet to produce a sound that is smooth and warm but bright enough to hold its own against any rock backline.Known simply these days as the 'Greenback', the G12M's fabled 'brown tone' is characterized by a warm, controlled low-end, a rich, vocal mid-range and a delicate, detailed top-end. Loaded into a 4x12 and driven hard, these speakers exude warm, crunchy chords and sweet searing single-notes.

Rock on!

Comments about Celestion G12M-65 Creamback 12" Speaker 16 Ohm:

Purchased this speaker and a G12H-75 to replace the Seventy-80's that came with my Blackstar HT-60. I saw the combination of M and H Celestions being used for Rock/Blues combo's. WOW...what a difference. Gone is that fizzy sound. The G12H-75 cuts through with authority and the G12M-65 is warm and not muddy. Going to build an extension cab with two more of these. The Blackstar HT-60 is going to crank at high volumes. Try this combo you will love it!

Comments about Celestion G12M-65 Creamback 12" Speaker 16 Ohm:

This is a cut and paste from my G12H review, it applies to any speaker purchase IMO. I started by looking at the various frequency response curves at Celestion's site. I was actually considering purchase of the Celestion EVH speakers. I ended up purchasing 1 G12H and 1 G12M. In short, you really can't tell from sound bytes on the internet as to how a speaker will sound in your cab with your rig. So, do the best you can by comparing the frequency response graphs to speakers you are familiar with and listen to the sound bytes on the web through decent home speakers or high quality head phones. Still won't tell you how the speaker will sound with your gear, but, its a jumping off point if your going to spend this kind of money on a guitar speaker. Speaking of price, I personally think 12M and H are a bit over priced, however, I also know in electronics, you get what you pay for and I expect years of service from these speakers provided I do my part and take care of them. Best of luck!

Great upgrade to the DSL40c

Comments about Celestion G12M-65 Creamback 12" Speaker 16 Ohm:

If you have a Marshall DSL40c, this thing is a great upgrade. It takes some of the harshness of the red channel away, but overall just provides a more balances and clearer tone. The signature Marshall crunch comes through so much better with this bad boy.
The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because it wasn't what I would consider a huge "night and day" difference from the 70/80 stock speaker, but it is absolutely worth doing to get better tone, especially on the dirty channel.

Comments about Celestion G12M-65 Creamback 12" Speaker 16 Ohm:

This is now in my DSL40c and it's a great improvement! My Marshall is the vintage model, so I'm pretty sure that buying the vintage with the Creamback is not an option. It nicely toned down the high end, so that the harshness of the seventy-80 is now nonexistent! The tone of the amp is now full and sweet, while still having a great edginess if you turn the treble, and presence up with the neck p/u! I'd definitely buy it again, and like the amp much more with this speaker!

Comments about Celestion G12M-65 Creamback 12" Speaker 16 Ohm:

I put two of these in my Marshall 1936 2x12, wow what an incredible improvement over the old G12-T75 speakers that Marshall has used for so many years. Celestion hit it out of the park with the Creambacks. If you are looking for a Greenback alternative that supports higher wattage, this is the one to get. It actually sounds like a mix between a Greenback and Vintage 30 with all the negatives of each speaker removed. Imagine the vintage Greenback sound with higher wattage and a tighter modern bottom end, rounded but pleasing top, and those Greenback mids. I was so blown away by them when I hit the first chord. It strikes the perfect balance between vintage and modern sound and you can do anything with these speakers. I play high-gain metal myself and they were perfect for what I was looking for.

Comments about Celestion G12M-65 Creamback 12" Speaker 16 Ohm:

In my Marshall DSL40c, I replaced Seventy 80 speaker with this Creamback. I really think it sounds great and improved the sound. I suppose tone is subjective though. I notice that one of the other big music stores (sweet water) now has a special version of the DSL40c that comes with this speaker, probably helped me make the decision to buy. I was considering a Vintage 30 and would still like to try one. For now I have this creamback and the DSL40c fricken sounds awesome.
