The source of Eddie's sound.

These G12 replacement speakers drive the EVH 5150III amplifier to deliver ultimate Van Halen tone. They're the result of Edward Van Halen and Fender joining forces in an incredible collaboration.

Throughout his career, Eddie Van Halen has sought out original Celestion 20-watt Greenback speakers to load into his recording and performing rigs. So, when designing the EVH 5150III it was to Celestion that EVH and Fender turned in search of that vintage Greenback sound.

Celestion's Heritage Series G12 M speakers are a faithful reproduction of the original 1960s 20-watt Greenback and for EVH they provide the ideal solution. However—in order to give this speaker a look that is unmistakably EVH—a specially designed label, featuring the Van Halen logo and unique EVH striped design, along with a black-painted can that evokes the memory of the rare and much sought after Celestion "Blackback" speakers, were added.

  • Over the top is an understatement!

As reviewed by Pleasantly Surprised on 10/4/2009

I threw this bad boy in the 1x12 valve jr cab to replace the 70 watt eminence lady luck(70 watts for a 5 watt amp?). This speaker embodies the full natural sound of whatever style you are going for. On ten she breaks up smooth and is still tight playing quietly. If you are looking for a great sounding low wattage speaker that will fit any circumstance this is it.

  • Finally that sound!!!!!

As reviewed by Pietro Galante on 10/24/2012

I wanted to wait until I broke this speaker in before doing a full review. I bought 2 of these. I have them each in a 1x12 cab. Both closed back and stacked. I use these speakers with a Valve 105 "bimbo" head. The Valve 105 is basically a 5 watt Marshall JMP. It's an awesome little amp for that classic Marshall sound at bedroom volume. It makes the class 5 sound like a toy. It uses 1 el34 tube, 2 12ax7's. The Valve 105 and this speaker are a match made in heaven. I have a 2002 Gibson SG standard with the 490/498 pickups but with original black beautie capacitors and CTS 500K pots. I play mostly blues and straight AC/DC. I don't care about other styles of music. I was trying to nail that classic Angus Young tone but on a bedroomish scale. AC/DC's sound is easy to obtain with the right tools. Yet like most people I don't live in an arena where I can blast a vintage 100 watt Marshall through several 4x12s. I did try the non Heritage g12m-25 watt greenbacks. I just couldn't get THAT sound with them. These EVH speakers are tonally superior to the normal greenbacks and are tonally identical to the g12m-20 watt Heritage. Which were at the time $80 more. Why pay more for the same thing? After break in the bass just kicked in. Very deep, The mids are very pronounced, The highs are softer and not shrilly. Like all Celestions. Prior to break in they sound a little nasally. Yet these sounded really great out of the box. They just keep getting better every time I play. I finally can get that Angus Young tone without buying a 1977 Marshall JMP or JTM45 or Superlead plus 4x12 with 1970's Celestions. This is the speaker to pair with your Marshall for any Classic rock sounds. I would imagine they would sound great with any amps. But I will never know cause I found my sound and I am done.
