Overview

Spoiled by the various tube driven echo units Catalinbread has around their shop, they wanted the Montavillian Echo to sound and feel just as BIG! So they went all out on the audio path on this thing... They took painstaking efforts to make the dry signal sound and feel better when on, than with the pedal bypassed.

The Montavillian Echo utilizes the PT2399 chip, one of the more common delay chips used in modern delays, however, rather than slavishly following the datasheet, Catalinbread threw it out and ventured out on their own, using their ears to guide them, and what they achieved is a fantastic sounding delay, with a slew of sounds in a small, easy-to-use footprint.

Best Delay/Echo I could find under $200

Comments about Catalinbread Montavillian Echo Guitar Effects Pedal:

I spent a few weeks listening to dozens and dozens of YouTube reviews of just about every delay pedal I could find (searching through inventories of GC, Musician's Friend, Sweetwater, Pro Guitar Shop and others). Then, after winnowing down the candidates to about five, I went out & played them to confirm my findings. There are some very nice delay pedals, among them Aquapuss. The Catalinbread Montavillian was, for me, the easiest to use (especially on the fly at a gig), the best designed, and best sounding of 'em all.

VERY HAPPY with pedal; NOT HAPPY with Guitar Center.

Comments about Catalinbread Montavillian Echo Guitar Effects Pedal:

HAPPY with the pedal - sonically it's a very natural sounding echo/repeat; the "cut" feature which controls the intensity or volume (my words here) of the repeat is what really sets this pedal apart.

NOT HAPPY with Guitar Center for sending me a used pedal... no original packaging, no instructions, with adhesive on the bottom of the pedal - it had clearly been on someone's board and returned. When I contacted GC they told me I was right, but that I could always just take it back and get a refund... but it's too late for that. Catalinbread has discontinued this pedal; there are no new pedals available. As I've tried the pedal and am very happy with it, I don't want something else. The issue is GC should have been clear this was a used product; I should never have to put up with this issue/hassle. There are a lot of other alternatives on the internet. I guess I'll count myself lucky I've got one of the last C-bread Montavillian pedals.
