The PX-850 is the flagship digital piano from Casio’s Privia line, with big sound and amazing tones. The PX-850 has the advanced AiR sound set providing an additional level of realism including grand piano lid simulation and sympathetic resonance. This 88-key digital piano also has a dual 20W speaker system and a cabinet that opens providing a rich concert sound.
The award winning grand piano sound in Privia has been dramatically improved. The PX-850 utilizes more than three times the memory of the previous generation for a more natural piano tone. In addition, Casio's new proprietary sound source "AiR" (Acoustic and intelligent Resonator) provides unmatched realism and detail. This engine provides seamless dynamics for a remarkably expressive and powerful performance. For further realism a new Damper & String Resonance and Hammer Response simulator provides the rich sound of the strings when the sustain pedal is used.
The new PX-850 also features a new redesigned 88 note Tri-sensor scaled hammer action keyboard. This new action features new simulated Ebony and Ivory textured keys for an incredible feel and it's three sensors capture the dynamics of a performance with unparalleled speed and accuracy. To further enhance the experience, the action and the sound engine take into consideration the speed at which different sized hammers move inside acoustic grand relative to velocity the keys are pressed, this timing nuance provides the ultimate key to sound experience.
The PX-850 offers an impressive 256 notes of polyphony, as well as a choice of instrument tones including strings, organs, electric pianos and bass. The PX-850 provides split and layer capability allowing you to play bass in your left hand and have two layered tones in your right. Duet mode splits the keyboard into two equal ranges, allowing student and teacher to use the piano simultaneously. An easy to use USB port and built in two track recorder can record and playback your practice and performances. A 20W + 20W amplifier provides incredible sound and an adjustable top lid can create the resonance of a grand piano with the lid completely open, partially open, closed or removed. The matching keyboard cover, stand and pedal board make this a complete digital piano that is a welcome addition to any home dècor.
Casio continues the tradition of providing “class compliant” USB connectivity on Privia digital pianos. This allows Privia to be used with Mac or Windows computers without the need to download drivers. Class Compliant USB MIDI also allows Privia digital pianos to be used as a controller for the Apple iPad by using Apple’s Camera Connection Kit.
AIR SOUND SOURCE
To reproduce the sound of the finest acoustic grand pianos, the new Privia series features Casio’s proprietary AiR (Acoustic and intelligent Resonator) processor. Accessing more than three times the memory of the previous generation, the AiR processor utilizes grand piano samples recorded at four dynamics sampling to deliver grand piano sounds with long natural decays and remarkable expression. To further the grand piano experience, AiR adds realism by simulating the sound of the open strings when the dampers are raised by the pedal.

I had the option of reclaiming (from a friendly ex wife) a very nice Yamaha upright for my sixth grade musician. Unfortunately, the logistics of moving it to my house were daunting. So we began shopping electric pianos. The Privia PX-850 had consistently good reviews, but there was only one in a store in my area, a floor model, and it apparently developed a key problem before we could negotiate the purchase. We decided to order it from Guitar Center (great customer service), and it took a little over a week to arrive. We are very happy with it. The assembly was straightforward. The weighted keys feel great. It has enough different sounds, without being ridiculous in its effects. It serves our purposes perfectly. It's a nice substitute for a traditional piano (well, it's not a replacement, but sometimes you have to make do), and it has some of the fun sounds of a digital keyboard. And it sounds great, whatever mode it's in. We're very happy with the purchase.
Got this a few weeks ago and can't keep my hands off it. Love the unique treatment of both black and white keys --- no slippery-slidey stuff; this feels like a real piano. And the sound is phenomenal. In its class, this sounds better than digital pianos that were twice the price. It definitely is a terrific value for the money. It has less of the techno bells and whistles than some of the others, but has MIDI capability and enough other fun things to get creative. If your first priority is a piano that sounds the most like the true stringed instrument, then this is the one to try! I love it! ---Lynn K.
This is a great digital piano. Great sound and feel. Take your time with the assembly. Although not absolutely necessary, having two people for the assembly makes things easier. Overall, this piano competes well with the best digital pianos, at least on a sonic level.
