The PX-5S is part of the Casio Privia line of digital pianos. The PX-5S is loaded with a collection of acoustic pianos, vintage keyboard, and synth sounds, and has powerful controller features and sequencing tools that sets it apart from other keyboards.

POWERED BY AIR
At the heart of the PX-5S Stage Piano is Casio's proprietary AiR sound source which provides incredible realism, detail and expression for grand piano sounds. In the PX-5S, the power of AiR has been expanded to provide stunning fidelity and control over other instrument tones and effects with 256 notes of polyphony.

OLD SCHOOL, NEW CLASS
In addition to Privia's award winning grand piano sounds, the PX-5S has an arsenal of newly developed sounds including classic electric piano, harpsichord and clav sounds. Some of these tones are complete with release samples, amplifier and speaker simulations for an incredibly authentic experience.

SERIOUS CONTROL
The PX-5S is a powerful four zone controller, complete with 4 knobs and 6 sliders all of which are completely configurable to control internal sounds, effects parameters or send continuous controllers to other gear. Each zone on the PX-5S can control an internal sound, an external MIDI device or both simultaneously.

NEW SONIC TERRITORY
The PX-5S redefines what a stage piano should be, providing an arsenal of other sounds and creative tools. The PX-5S includes powerful Hex Layer tones complete with real-time filters and also features four programmable arpeggiators and multitrack phrase sequencing.

Comments about Casio Privia PX-5S Pro Stage Piano:

This keyboard feels AMAZING, the touch is perfect. The sounds, especially the piano and wurlitzer are spot on. The organ is good, but you'll need an outboard Leslie or simulator to make it usable. The only downside for me (coming from a semi-weighted action) is trying to play organ and synth parts on what is essentially a weighted piano action.

Comments about Casio Privia PX-5S Pro Stage Piano:

I will limit my credibility by admitting that I am a guitarist of 25 years and I only dabble on piano. The price was a top factor in my decision to go with the PX-5S, but I was most attracted to its large bank of tones, which sound REALLY good, especially in stereo. The standard grand piano is great, but I love the vintage E.P.'s and Clavinet. Synth sounds are fun, too.

The feel is quite piano-like, but not being a long-time pianist, I wasn't really seeking a "realistic" feel anyway. I'm not a gigging keyboardist, but I know the 25-lb weight is a big selling point to those who are. With light weight comes compromises, though. One complaint I have about the mostly-plastic construction is the input/output jacks do not feel strong and secure. They feel... plasticky. I'm used to pro audio devices with metal jacks that have lock nuts, which feel strong and stable when you insert plugs into them. These jacks have some play and give a little when you insert a plug. I worry that if a cord got stepped on and pulled downward, it could easily break the jack. This is probably a necessary compromise to sell at this price point, but I would be willing to pay more for high-quality metal jacks and could accept 5 more lbs of weight if it added durability. I see complaints about the mechanical noise of the keys and I don't disagree. The reason is that the light hollow plastic body acts like a resonant chamber and amplifies the noise. You could have quieter keys by adding another 20lbs. Trade-offs...

Not thrilled with the power supply. It's a very flimsy cable from the AC adapter to the board, and it inserts into another weak plastic jack. I see easy damage potential here. The battery feature is a joke, i.m.o. Who is actually going to use this with batteries, especially when you have to use an external amplifier?! Just a good place to store 8 dead AA's if you ask me.

Complicated U.I. will take me years to learn. Overall, though, a fantastic instrument for the beginner or pro!

Comments about Casio Privia PX-5S Pro Stage Piano:

We helped our daughter with a new keyboard, and this is the model she selected. She is a professional musician.
When my wife needed an new keyboard, I looked at the Casio and almost bought a less expensive model, but for only $200 more I could get this model. We are very satisfied.

          Nice keyboard

          By Jeff

Comments about Casio Privia PX-5S Pro Stage Piano:

I bought an "open box" unit, it was not operating when I got it. It had a need for new firmware, which I downloaded. It had 2 keys which got connected hung up somehow. I sent it back. Then I got a new one in an unopened box. This one is great! I figure that another brand of keyboard would cost at least double, like say a Yamaha CP-4 or CP-40. I have had this a few days now. The keyboard has nice piano action, and 88 keys. It has a synthesizer ability to do more than just a stage piano. I am trying to learn how to really use it, I will have to read the additional downloaded information.

Comments about Casio Privia PX-5S Pro Stage Piano:

I am so disappointed! This keyboard is perfect except for one glaring flaw. The MIDI Out/Thru only works one way or the other, it is NOT a merger. This means there is never a reason to plug anything INTO the MIDI In if you want it to go through. Seriously CASIO, you didn't allow both the thru and out of the MIDI port to work at the same time (MERGE)? There are work-arounds, but I hate the lack of flexibility here. This was a five star plus keyboard, until I found the one problem with it. For me, it is a doozy. I'd still buy this keyboard again, but beware the MIDI jack implementation is faulty. #px5salmostperfect

Comments about Casio Privia PX-5S Pro Stage Piano:

The Casio PX-5S Pro Stage Piano is a beautiful instrument. You get more than what you pay for here, with a huge variety of sounds and features. It can be frustrating at first to figure out navigation, how to create your own tones, stage settings, and such. The manual is not very helpful, but with the available YouTube videos out there, and discussions on the Casio website, it becomes much easier, and it's a great setup! Overall, this is a great keyboard at a great price, and I would highly recommend this for the experienced pianist looking for performing, and working on compositions.

This keyboard does everything I needed and wanted it to do and more-you'd have to get to $2K to $3K to get anywhere near it in another manufacturer. Strongly recommended if you're serious about keyboards.

I have owned most all brands including the privia 330 which I loved... this is better... the controller functions alone are worth the price.. I will never own another board that weighs in at 60 lbs... An absolute joy to play... and when you have one... you'll understand and be like a shiny object fan boy or girl ... It is that cool... I played it on battery power through a battery powered Roland amp and everyone was stunned on the clarity of the sound... It is no longer about the money spent but about the execution of amazing technology
