This is a very nice beginner keyboard. Its not really fully weighted but its great for the price. The tones are from Casio which are not as rich as Yamaha but the Yamaha keyboards are twice as expensive. That is why I dinged a star. That shouldn't deter you but it could be a point to consider. It has USB so you can work with software. the speakers are pretty decent for practice at this price level. If you're thinking about needing 88 and are on a very tight budget then this is a great option. Its not a toy.

Perfect minimalism. No extraneous features that drive costs up.
This is a spectacular keyboard for a piano-player, which basically means that if you want the sound and feel of a piano, THIS is the keyboard to buy, but if you're in a rock band that needs synths/orchestra sounds, etc, either connect to a MIDI interface or buy the Privia line of pianos.
I love the Privia line of pianos (used to play a friend's PX-110) but the additional costs is only worth it if you intend on using the greatly expanded feature set of the Privias like all their extra instrument sounds, recordings, and drum tracks. If you just want to make piano sounds, the CDP series is where you should put your money.
I was in the market for an 88 key midi keyboard with weighted keys and, almost everything seemed to cost around $800-$1000. I could not swing that. Then I found this Casio piece. I remember looking at the ad (It was on sale at the time) thinking, if only it has USB. And then I saw that it did. I did a little research on the Googler and found that it interface beautifully with Garage Band, Logic, Native instruments etc. Needless to say, I bought it immediately and have yet to be disappointed. The action on the keys is awesome! Is there nicer out there? Yep. But, for the money, this was a steal. I tend to bang out some pretty heavy blues and the keys seem to like the torment cause they come right back asking for more. This is still an awesome deal for a midi keyboard.
