I bought this microphone about a month ago and it took my friend and I a week to figure out how to un-mute my speakers while the mic is plugged in. You will have to go to your control panel, go to hardware and sound, and DISABLE the C-Media USB Audio Device. For some reason, the computer will think that the microphone is a speaker. After disabling this feature, you should be good to go!

EXACT DETAILS. i purchased this mic on New Years Eve, right before 2010. So ive owned it for about a year now. ive done about 400 musical projects with this mic. This mic is good, but only good to a certain point. but one thing YOU CANNOT DO: you cant buy a mic, use it for the first few times, and call it a good mic. i have to rate this mic in every area. "10 meaning best, 1 meaning worst" QUALITY= 4. why? because this mic doesnt reallly gives vocals a good warm studio sound like what everybody says. RELIABILITY = 8. why? because you can acually take this mic anywhere you want to go without the hassle of hooking up extra hardware (preamps, mixers, interface ext.) DURABILITY = 6. why? well the mic clip, the part where the mic connects to the stand, well that lil circle thing isnt too helpful after owning this thing for a year, and for it to be a USB mic, then i think it should have been made for traveling and being tossed around becuase of the flexibility of it. then after using it for a year, i noticed that the screens can easily pop off (even though mine havent). the quality of the sound decreases after a while. you wont be able to notice, until you gain THE-EAR-FOR-QUALITY. FEEL = 4. why? well it doesnt look attractive in any way, it feels and looks like something you can buy from Toys R Us. FLEXIBILITY = 5. why? well eventhough u can podcast, record on-the-go, and hook it up to a computer easily, doesnt mean its flexible. since its a USB mic, you cant upgrade the quality. i mean its a great mic, but you get what you pay for. if all you have is $70, and thats all you want to spend on a mic, then get it. this mic really helped me out on giving me the name "THE STUDIO MAN". but its time to upgrade. and one thing you dont do... dont upgrade a USB mic for another USB mic, or you'll run into the same problems you had with the other one and ur gunna want to reupgrade. Good for starters, but use it for a year, and tell me what u think. OH AND ONE MORE THING... I TRY TO MONITOR MY VOCALS WHEN I RECORD, AND THE MIC GIVES ME THIS LITTLE ECHO, TO WEAR I THINK IM TALKING SLOW. and sometimes when i record with the mic volume high, the mic smells like a burned out car amp. so dont record your vocals with the volume up too high or this thing will easily blow out on you.

It is what it is.

Comments about CAD U37 USB Condenser Microphone:

I bought this mic to make recording song ideas a bit quicker using GarageBand. I own a Blue Snowball USB mic already and was looking for something with a little different sound just have a couple of choices when I choose to use a USB mic. A USB mic will never be better than a "traditional" mic plugged into a decent preamp/converter. So if you're hoping for a U87 here just because there's a "U" and a "7" in this mic's model number, you are going to be sorely disappointed. However, if you know that USB mics by their nature are usually fairly thin sounding and somewhat temperamental then you'll be fine. Two things that kept me from giving this mic 4 or more stars.. 1) it's a bit hot. Even with the -10db pad engaged and the input gain turned down to it's lowest level on the computer it was still fairly easy to peak this mic. It's not unusable, you just won't be able to cut your Dave Grohl style vocal tracks with this guy. 2) There is a blue LED on the front of the mic. Which by itself isn't totally bad. But it flashes on and off about two times every second while the mic is in use. I can see this being very distracting. My plan is to either put a piece of duct tape over the LED or get a foam wind screen that I can pull down over the LED. So overall, not bad for the price, I got it on sale. Not bad for getting an acoustic guitar idea recorded or soft vocal. You won't be able to close mic anything with this guy.

podcast or light music microphone

Comments about CAD U37 USB Condenser Microphone:

I am a semi pro musician who has a limited budget. this mic is fine for low key voice, vocal, low db sound captures. never did "you get what you pay for" ring more true though. the quiet to moderate recordings are "ok", but if you are dynamic(loud), the mic will distort. it is possible i got a lemon out of the batch... but if you are a metal vocalist, try another mic.

TERRIBLE ۡ do not buy if you use a MAC

By Adam Bies

from Pittsburgh, PA

Comments about CAD U37 USB Condenser Microphone:

I should have bought the Blue Snowball mic like I originally wanted to. Now I have to go back to Guitar Center and return this piece of junk and get the one I should have bought in the first place. This mic has a SERIOUS sensitivity issue that is not able to be resolved on a Macintosh for some reason. I plugged in the mic and set all recording input levels to ZERO ̴ۡ_and just typing on my keyboard with the microphone 3 feet away is causing the levels to spike off the graph! If I hit record, the waveform is SQUARE, SQUARE, SQUARE etc as I type on the keyboard. The mic is so sensitive I can whisper 30 feet away and it maxes out the recording levels I AM NOT JOKING. The sound from my GAS PILOT LIGHT on my FURNACE 30 feet away is showing up in the decibel meter at the HALFWAY MARK. OK ۡ for comparison, in my old ghetto podcast recording studio, I used a RADIO SHACK stage mic, hooked into a Korg KAOSS pad, run out the HEADPHONE jack on the kaoss pad into the LINE IN port on my laptop and got results 1,000 times better than this mic. With that setup my silence was PURE DEAD SILENT with NO background noise (even though there WAS background noise in the room) and no matter how hard I yelled into the mic it would NOT CLIP. This CAD u37 will NOT work for a podcast or any other purpose if you plug it into a Macintosh even though the package and instructions clearly state that it will. Tech support will just email you back saying there is nothing you can do about the problem (they get this same complaint every time someone buys this mic) if you are on a MAC. The fact they put "Mac Compatible" on the package and they know full well it does not work means I will NEVER buy this company's GARBAGE again!!!

Beware!!

By Jesse Babini

from Lancaster, PA

Comments about CAD U37 USB Condenser Microphone:

I read the reviews of this mic before I bought it, and they all sounded pretty good. I bought the mic for recording vocals because I am a producer/musician but when I plugged it in I was very disappointed. The mic does not allow for you to hear anything when it is plugged in, which means artists cannot stay on beat or on key. I read on a forum AFTER I opened the package that said it was a one-way input microphone. The quality is alright, but not amazing, and I am now stuck with a microphone that I cannot use and will most likely sell on eBay. This mic may work for Podcasters, but for musicians, I would not recommend buying it.

good mic

By Michael

Comments about CAD U37 USB Condenser Microphone:

This mic is a great buy, I've only had it for a few weeks, and I was very surprised with the sound quality for this price. Be sure that your software is compatible with USB microphones before you purchase it. Very sensitive, it picks up vocals very well, and has adjustments to reduce popping, and/or distortion.

Quality. Amazing. Simply Put.

By James Calhoun

Comments about CAD U37 USB Condenser Microphone:

This is the greatest mic I have ever stumbled across. It is great and picks up the lightest noises. I heard a swirling sound after i hooked it up, but only later found out that someone had flushed the toilet and it picked it up. This thing is great and offers great tonality and great pickup for vocals at least. I would imagine it would also be great for podcasting and stuff too.
