after toying around with many other mic setups, and thinking I was going with a differnt setup, a friend loaned me his set of CAD Premiums and i was mystified as to how such an afforadble set could be so easy to set up, dial in and use in a road band environment. I am extremely satisfied, no strike that, amazed at their durablity and the sound quality/pickup is outright awsome. If your looking for a set of mics that wont let you down, and will make all of your licks come right out and grab your audiance, then give these a shot, YOU will NOt be dissapointed.

I was excited to receive this mic kit after reading all the good reviews, then was a little disappointed when I put them on my drum set. Starting with the mount clips; although made well, the angle is wrong. They come straight up off the rim at 90 degrees causing the mic to have to be pointed to the tom edge (on smaller rack toms) in order to be out of the way. Otherwise it'll be sticking out towards the middle of the drum head.(I ended up buying different ones)They'd be perfect built at a 45 degree angle. The KBM412 kick mic was the biggest disappointment. If you're looking for 50's/60's style sound where the kick isn't prominent, then it's ok at best. It lacks the power and punch required for modern music. No mids or high end at all. (I ended up buying a Shure Beta 52a) The TSM411 tom/snare mics are actually pretty good. Great response and really capture the attack of the drum. A good mic for the money, as well as the 2 ICM 417 overheads. They do a good job of capturing the ambient sound. I also added a CAD GXL1200BP condenser mic to my high hats. It's a great mic at $80. Through my Peavey PV14 mixer it all sounds great. All in all, a decent, inexpensive mic kit. Just add a good kick mic and you're good to go.

Comments about CAD Premium 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit:

Wow! These mics are well packaged in their own case, complete with form fitted foam to keep them safe when gigging. The over head condenser mics are great for recording acoustic guitars too. I am very impressed with the quality of the recordings I am getting from the tom/snare/kick mics. The mounting brackets are great. I saw some reviews that did not like the setup but I found the brackets easy to use.

    Good mics for little cost

    By CHRIS MUTTERER

Comments about CAD Premium 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit:

I bought these mics on sale for live use. Great sound in small to medium bar/clubs so far, especially for the price. Not sure I would use these for serious studio recordings and I have not tried to. The padded case that is included is nice. Warning, the mounts are terrible. I would give this pack 5 stars except for the mount clips. They do not have any flexibility and put the mics in the way of where you hit the head. I was only able to get by using one of the included mounts on a floor tom, and had to purchase different mount clips for the rest of the drums. But I think you still come out ahead with this mic pack.

    Great for the working drummer

    By Bobby Brinson

Comments about CAD Premium 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit:

I bought these two years ago and felt it was appropriate to write a legit review. These mics are very dependable and durable. They have been hit, had beer spilled on them and dropped and I still get thumbs up from FOH engineers. The tom mics are a "little" big but they work ok. You can buy some expensive mics but why??? These mics are for the working drummer! Buy today!!!

Most Bang for your Buck (Pun intended)!

    By Joe Nicholson

    from Greeley, CO

Comments about CAD Premium 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit:

For the price of these mics, I was a little leary of them. However, upon actually using them, I was blown away! They pick up the attack and the sustain just as well as those fancy mics you see in studios. I would most definitely recommend this mic pack. But be sure your mixer/soundboard has phantom power for individual channels. I had to buy a phantom power box to run the condenser mics. Otherwise, great buy!

Great mics especially for the price!

    By D Lara

    from Atlanta, GA

Comments about CAD Premium 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit:

I needed some mics to record a demo with and had these had been suggested to me several times by various people. I thought at the price, even if they are only decent it's worth the investment. We recorded our demo and they sounded great. Granted, we were in a real studio running Pro Tools and various effects, limiters etc. but you can't go wrong with these. I would recommend these over and over again. If you want to spend big bucks on mics, you may hear a bit of a difference but I guarantee it wouldn't be enough to justify the price difference. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about were the mounts. I didn't have a problem with them mounting on my triple flanged hoops but they didn't mount well to the die-cast hoods as they couldn't get traction on the smooth straight rims. The placement of the mics on the clamps also makes them very tall and in your way if you are playing anything more than a Ringo style layout. For flat mounted drums they would be fine. Anyone that has a Carter Beauford style setup will have some challenges getting them out of the way of your small toms. The bigger drums and floor toms are fine. I plan on buying 2 or 3 LP claws for my smaller drums so I can get a better angle with the mics. I would very highly recommend these mics to anyone, live or studio.

Great drum pack for the price

    By Brian, STC Productions

    from Walnutport, PA

Comments about CAD Premium 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit:

I have a few really expensive CAD mics in my studio, so I am not new to the brand, but I think each of mics cost more than this whole kit. Sound is good. There other more expensive alternative that I would prefer, but for the system that these are for, doing hard rock for bar-bands, they are just perfect. The mic is extremely durable. I really like the mounting clips, as that eh mic slides into a softer rubber sleeve providing additional vibration isolation. All of the mics with just a bit of EQ here and there give me a great sound. I am really happy with the Kick mic. Good low end response combined with a nice click. The mud in the middle is easy to cut with my parametric and I have kick drum thats ready to knock beer bottles off the bar. The condensers are adequate... not great by any means, but they do the job. My biggest complaint with this kit is the mounting clamps. They are designed to lock onto the rim of the drum. I am not fond of the design at all, and I have put them aside and use the mics on LP drum claws instead, giving me a better mounting solution with more positioning options. I do like the fact the cables exit the rear of the mic. I do have another set of Shure Beta drum mics that have given me fits with cables exitting the bottom, along the stand adapter and making mounting options difficult. I use right angle XLR cables with the CAD's and I have a nice clean setup. Definitely worth the money.., but buy some LP claws and throw away the mounting clips.

    Good Mics

    By Jimmie

    from Pinon Hills CA

Comments about CAD Premium 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit:

These mics sound great! The price is not bad either for these great sounding mics. They are very sensitive, so that's a good thing. Only thing that I wish they would have changed is the size of the tom and snare mics. But other than that, they are superb.

    Better than expected

    By Bill

    from Tacoma, WA

Comments about CAD Premium 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit:

For the price of this drum mic pack I was not expecting much. After the first recording I was blown away at how good they sound. I have heard other kick mics that sound better, but with a bit of EQ I had no problem making this one sound great. If you are on a budget and want to do a good sounding drum recording I would highly reccomend these mics.
