Comments about CAD Equitek E100S Large Diaphram Condenser Mic:

Years ago when I had a pro studio set up, I had many of the renowned mics but beyond recording musical jingles and music, I also recorded hundreds of spoken work ads and used a condenser for same in a perfectly soundproof "announce booth". Flash forward many years and I now ONLY record my voice for commecials and videos in a less than acousitcally friendly environment, whereas, the mic is right near computers and other gear with built in fans, which in turn rendered the use of a condenser impossible.

For years, I stayed with a DYNAMIC EV-R20 because of these subtle noise issues but sorely missed that condenser sound. I thought many times of building an announce booth or alternatives but room size was always the issue.

THEN...I stumbled upon an ad for this microphone that boasted the lowest noise of any condenser on the market but of course I didn't believe it. However, after doing days of further research and talking to a few owners of same, I decided to buy the thing, merely out of curiosity. I also figured it would probably end up on Ebay.

Well, I'll say this. I plugged it into my board, slapped on the headphones but didn't say anything because I just wanted to hear the fan noise. Alas, I didn't hear anything. I then made sure the phantom power was on for that channel and the faders up etc. etc. and then pushed the fader up more. Nothing.

I started talking and whoah, yes, the mic was on! Impossible. I recorded some copy and played it back and lo and behold there was that condenser sound I had missed for years!

BOTTOM LINE: Before you buy this mic, search the interenet and you'll soon find many other SIMILAR stories. The thing is just amazingly quiet! Will it give you a NEUMANN or say AKG sound? Not quite but not too far away from them either. I recall a workhorse dynamic I once used for a lot of things, the Senn 421 and I would say this mic is like that but in the condenser world. A showstopper, no but an overall great and solid performer!

Great mic, but with a caveat

Comments about CAD Equitek E100S Large Diaphram Condenser Mic:

Okay here's the thing, this mic is excellent if, and it's a big if, it does not have the dreaded hiss. Some of these leave the factory with the problem of having a noisy hiss, when it should be absolutely quiet as advertised. I suggest you search on youtube with the keyword "CAD e100s noise". If your microphone exhibit any form of such a problem, send it to CAD right away, and you should be fine, it does come with a 2 year warranty from CAD equitek. I love my e100s after getting it back from CAD for the repair, now it is dead quiet, smooth and refined for vocal use.
