The CAD Audio U9 USB MicroMic features a small compact design, with a huge sound and a 3.5mm (1/8”) headphone out jack for monitoring. The 180 degree swivel and omnidirection capsule allows for precise placement and maximum sound quality while podcasting, Skyping, VoIP or recording music.
I forgot to mention that the 180 degree rotation is great! It allows for me to tilt the mic towards the professor during class and towards myself when I'm recording guitar. The red doughnut looks goofy in the picture, but it actually lights up to a nice red glow that lets you know it's plugged in correctly. The jack on the side is cool because it lets you listen to the playback on your headphones... although I'm sure you could do this with out it. Think of it this way! It's like a bonus usb to 1/8'' male jack, which could come in handy if you want multiple headsets attached to one computer. The size is great! It's a tad larger than a jump drive so I can take it anywhere hassle-free!
When I first bought this, I was a bit concerned with the price; Radio Shack offered a mic for 12 bucks--less than half as much as this puppy. When I got my mic in the mail and plugged it into my computer to record some guitar/vocals, there was a lot of distortion, but I went to the microphone properties on my computer, unchecked the AGC under the Custom tab and the sound was crystal clear. I can also use this mic to record lectures (I'm a college student) and it works great; it can record sound from the other room! You can also turn this down under the Levels tab if you don't want ambient sounds getting in your recordings; if at first your product isn't recording, it may be because the level is turned down to 0. I'm sure this is also great for Skyping; but I don't have any friends. Haha. Great product.
