The CAD 4-Piece Drum Microphone Pack includes one KBM412, 3 TSM411 mics, and 3 DMC-1 mic clips.
The KBM412 is a rugged kick mic with powerfully accurate low-end reproduction. The TSM411 neodymium dynamic microphone is an excellent and versatile percussion mic that excels for use with toms, snares, cymbals, and congas. The mic clips offer secure, easy mounting for your mics with effective isolation, adjustable height, and strain relief.
The 411's are adequate. Good bang for the buck. Sturdy. They don't have the snap and clarity of more expensive mics, but they are very workable. The KBM 412 kick mic has a large upper-mid peak that can appear to add volume, but at the cost of tonal accuracy. With a little EQ the bump can be flattened and the mic sounds fairly good at further distances from the drum head. Placement is critical as this mic distorts under the higher SPL's that do not bother top of the line kick mics like the AKG 112 or Shure Beta 52. And, again, the CAD does not provide the punch and clarity of more expensive mics. The included mic clips are too stiff and hard to work with until they get broken in, then they become too loose. Especially for the heavier kick mic. Overall, a decent value. Good, solid pieces of gear for a starter kit or less critical miking needs.
Ok, I'm mostly a Shure guy, and getting a Shure Drum mic set is expensive. So I got these. Don't let the price fool you! These sound Amazing! They sounded better than the sm58s mics that I used to put on the toms and the bass mic, whew I wish I could put up audio samples for you to hear how great it sounds.
