My buddy had bought a Bugera 6262 tubed head for his rig a few months before, and it sounded amazing. So when I went lookin for an afordable, yet powerful bass head I knew where to start. Originally a GK fanatic, the 5500's power blew me away. I played it through an Acoustic 8x10 (which I also ended up purchasing) and sounded ten times better and louder than the guy beside me playing through an SVT3 pro and Ampeg 6x10. He was on 4. I was on 1. I highly recommend this head to ANYONE. Whether you're on a budget or not, this head is deffinately the way to go!!

Let me say right up front that I am not a 'Behringer Hater'. I own several Behringer products and have never had any problems with any of them. So when I was in need of a bigger, better bass amp, and saw the Bugera BVP5500, I was thinking I'd have the sound of the SVT-3 Pro but at less than half the price. And better yet, GC was having a Labor Day sale -- another 15% off! Time to pull the trigger on this one. Well, I ordered it at the local GC, and had it delivered to the store so I could check things out before I accepted it -- I couldn't find these anywhere to try them out first. Right off, the -15db input pad/light was stuck in constant clip mode when depressed, so I had to play an active bass at full input signal -- no pad. No big deal -- really didn't clip much, but still not functioning properly. Then I turned it up a little. The master volume pot crackled like it had been sitting in somebody's basement for the last 20 years. And had dead spots to boot. Same with the valve gain pot -- lots of crackle there too. I contemplated just sending it back for a replacement, but after this much disappointment right out of the box, I decided that maybe this just wasn't the amp for me. Sometimes you do get exactly what you pay for! Bought a GK instead. Not an SVT-3 like I was looking for, but still some killer sound. Very happy with it. I will say that when I was getting sound out of the Bugera, it did have the Ampeg sound all the way. Too bad it was of such low quality. Giving it one star because it did sound so good when it worked.

Comments about Bugera BVP5500 550W Tube Bass Amplifier Head:

I'm a guitarist but was looking for a gutsy amp head to go with my Trace Eliot 1x15" & 4x10" cabs.
I was on a budget but wanted something that I could dep bass with and most importantly something substantial that I could use as the main rig for the regular open mic nights that I host.

The amp is used every week by various Bass guitarists (including myself), and I've never had a single player give negative comment apart from 'Christ, it's heavy' or It's a behringer...!

The positive stuff, our events attract a few local Bass players who like playing through and hearing the rig, comments have included 'the tones and dynamics give ya the shakes just like a bass should' and 'the bass sounds great, really professional sound'... Finding drummers to hang with is no longer an issue.
You don't need much in the way of external effects with this amp cos it does a great job on its own, and the DI function sounds awesome when your privileged to stand mid field at open air festivals..!

As said, I'm primarily a guitarist, but my ears, experience and associates tell me that in the six months of ownership, the Bugera BVP5500 could not have been beaten by anyone else offering a high powered bass amp head with great tone, dynamics and flexibility on a baked bean budget...!

This amp cuts it anywhere you put it..! Pound for pound it's the best Bass rig I've used.
Maybe I got lucky, factory refurbished ex-display unit purchased for under £220...!!!

    Very good amp!!

    By JOHN HARTMAN

Comments about Bugera BVP5500 550W Tube Bass Amplifier Head:

In my opinion, this amp is VERY comparable to the Ampeg SVT-3 so in saying that...If you have the money and absolutely must own an Ampeg or some other high-dollar amp then by all means, buy it and you'll probably be happy with it. However, this amp delivers at a very moderate price..heck you could probably buy this amp, pick up a decent cabinet and still have paid less than what you would for certain amp heads don't even sound as good to begin with! The Bugera is a powerhouse and you'll like it's tone shaping abilities. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I've only owned it for a few months and I'll just have to see how it holds up over time.

Comments about Bugera BVP5500 550W Tube Bass Amplifier Head:

this head is thunderous. it gives my thunder bird more punch then anything ever has. the tubes really give it clarity and punch for amazing tone. the 9 band eq really lets you fine tune your sound. a buddy of mine used this head at one of his shows, and is so jealous that he has to keep using his PA head at practices. overall just an amazing head. im more then happy with my purchase, and i highly recommend this head.

Best value for dollar hands-down. You won't be disappointed.

    By Rob Akins

Comments about Bugera BVP5500 550W Tube Bass Amplifier Head:

The BVP5500 just arrived today. I hooked it up to the Behringer BB410 cabinet and played an active 5 string bass through it. WOW!!! This is some serious bass gear. It has two buttons that let you toggle ultra high and ultra low next to the gain. With active bass the low isnt as noticeable as the high. But that's just the bass. (don't need ultralow with active by the way). Ultra high is super crisp sounding. Guitar-like. Then you got the 3 standard tone knobs, bass, mid and treble. They do what they're supposed to. Then there is the master volume (BE CAREFUL!! LOUD!!) and a frequency knob which gives tons of control. On top of that, there is a set of precision equalizer sliders that, when kicked in, add a considerable boost to the overall sound. With the valve drive knob you can shape the sound from warm and fuzzy to cold and snappy. And anything in between. The -15db and bright clip buttons are nice to have as well. And finally the mute button. This is the 1st rig I ever owned that has one and I LOVE IT! I almost forgot the included foot pedal. It has Mute and EQ stomp toggles that let you mute so you can switch basses, as well as turn on or turn off the precision EQ. You can see the tubes through a cutout grille in the top and it has a fan that's quieter than a computer's. Very Nice. I can't say enough good things about this. One thing: you kind of need to get a 2 space rack for this, at the least, if you plan on any travel. It's too nice of an amp not to.

    Power of Tubes!

    By Chris

Comments about Bugera BVP5500 550W Tube Bass Amplifier Head:

Oh man.. I bought this in January and have been getting used to the sound of it. As soon as I took out of the box and hooked everything up to my cab and plugged it in, it warmed up and the sound of Gods came out my speaker. This amp head has such a versatile tone. You can customize it to the exact sound you want, especially with the graphic equalizer. It comes with a footswitch to change to the graphic equalizer or mute the sound completely. Comes in very handy when playing live. I give this a 5 for quality and sound. Sounds just as good as an SVT-3 Pro. Very impressed. Keep up the good work.

    Awesome Tone and Power

    By Gary Dowdy

    from Rome, GA

Comments about Bugera BVP5500 550W Tube Bass Amplifier Head:

I've been using mostly solid-state gear and have been told tubes sounded much better. I didn't want to drop the money on a valve amp unless there was truly a big difference. I played through several at GC, loving the SVT-3, but not getting enough time on it to make up my mind. I decided to buy this amp just to get some time in with a valve amp. This buy turned out to be a great investment! No trouble with it at all and the tone and power is impressive. I am glad I bought it and if I ever have any trouble, I'll post it. I love it and now can see what all the fuss is about where valve amps are concerned! Through my 4x10 cab, volume at 1 is the limit in my house. Kaboom!!!
