Overview

Bugera made the 1990 Classic the first guitar amp head that switches between full-throttle pentode or more harmonic triode (60W) modes. The tube amp's Clean and Lead channels have separate master Volume and Reverb controls. Bugera tossed in a dual-control footswitch others charge extra for. Using powerful economies of scale and advanced manufacturing, Bugera produced a value-priced amp head that puts biting British tone within range of anybody who ever lusted after it.

The 2-channel preamplifier design includes Bugera ECC83 and ECC83A preamp tubes for breathtaking punch and impressive gain. First-grade Bugera 5881 power tubes, offer comprehensive sound control. 2 integrated reverb effects and an effect loop with Volume control round off the Bugera 1990 amp head.

Bugera guitar amplifiers are handmade under stringent production guidelines to ensure long life and reliability. Each tube amp includes classic valve electronics, hard-wearing switches and potentiometers, high-quality transformers and”not to forget”the hand-selected, precision-matched Bugera tubes. And, owing to their careful construction and component assembly, Bugera 1990 Classic Tube Amp Heads stand up to the toughest demands on the road.

I have a Bugera 333XL for two years and just love the amp. My experience with Bugera has been A+, so when amps come out of there I am excited to try them. Been playing over 25 years and tone and sound is crucial to me. Then why Bugera? Because their amps are pure tone monsters that rank up there with the best in the business. Clones maybe, but who cares for what you get and at the price. The 1990 excited me because of its Marshall heritage. I am an eighties guy and that Brit sound is ingrained in my head. So I gave the amp a try. What I can say is my 333 is not being used as much. The clean channel is good and can give you a classic rock tone when you start to crank it. I use it for a clean, or if I want it dirty I use a Tube Screamer or other distortion sound. The clean channel with a pedal really is awesome and allows the amp qualities really come out with a pedal. The harmonics are great and has that classic tone sound. The lead channel is just awesome. Start playing your hair band favs song and they just come to life. This is not a super High gain amp, but can reach points right before that. Myself I an running the gain at 10 (channel goes to 22) and for a push for leads I use an overdrive. The Marshall looks better and might make people's heads turn but the Bugera is a much better value and to my ears a better sounding amp. One thing also this amp is very quite when not playing you can forget its on. My 333 has more feedback, but then again its a different amp. My buddy asked me which am I going to use live and at this point the 1990. Great amp at a great price. Now Bugera get that Tri Rec out!!!!

for starters, i am a big supporter of bugera. they make some fine amplifiers at very affordable prices..with that said, it may be worth your while to test one of these out yourself before committing. it's said that this is a clone of the marshall jcm 900...quite honestly, if i had the money for a good marshall, i'd take that because for one, the marshall makes a better investment. but, we are talking about bugera here so here goes: these things are made in china so be aware of that. they also throw in bugera brand tubes as a means of just getting something in there that will work..do yourself a huge favor, get new tubes. these things suck and the amp is way too bright. there is a great feel and heft to the amp and the controls are pretty basic and easy to use. i have this powering a marshall 1936 2X12 and honestly, it's loud, but it won't blow anyone away. it has nice early breakup when the tubes are nice and cooked but it doesn't really seem like 120 watts..maybe it's my cab, idk, because i haven't hooked it up to a 4 X 12. for someone on a budget who wants the marshall tone, i would definitely recommend you check it out. i've heard some people say they have issues with bugera breaking down but i have yet to encounter a single problem...only thing i will say is change those tubes asap, and don't waste your money on groove tubes either. crank it up!

Viva Bugera

By Audie

from MA

Comments about Bugera 1990 Classic 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Here's the deal. I wont even talk price range. This head delivers. Does it provide power and tone - without question. Does it sound like a JCM900 - without question. Is it probably the best bargain for a all tube head in long time - without question. Yes it is a bit brighter than the JCM (for some a good thing) but I have not find it to be something that can be tweaked via the EQ and guitar tone knobs. This is a strong recommendation for the new line of Bugera, I am completely satified. GC should not limit the store availability to special order only, the word will spread as will the demand.

Its not that bad...

By Richard

Comments about Bugera 1990 Classic 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp as a backup for my JCM 900 head. The sound of this amp is similar to my 900 and its obvious that just like the 6260, this is intended to be a clone of the 900. I have only had to use this at a gig once when my Marshall blew a fuse, and it sounded okay. This amp sounds better at low volumes. It is way too bright past about four on th master volume. even with the treble at 0 on the amp and the tone rolled of on my les paul. This amp would serve best as a beginner's amp or as a cheap backup for a 900 type amp.

A TUBE HEAD FOR UNDER 500?

By Fender Strat Owner

from Arizona

Comments about Bugera 1990 Classic 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp as an upgrade from a solid state and it is amazing. I, personaly do not like digital anything is guitar tone and I don't have much money so this was the perfect choice. The only problem I've had is that there is not a seperate EQ for Lead or Clean which, when you tweak the EQ for lead, can lead to too bright clean tones when you switch.

The Real Deal

By Mikeytheripper

from Eugene Oregon

Comments about Bugera 1990 Classic 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Okay so i've played marshals, Line 6, Bogner, and peavy and this in my ears and my opinion is way better. Yes it may be really bright at low levels but thats good for recording and letting the real sustain ring, and what is nice is that it still is bright but not over the top like marshals can be. The Distortion is the real deal for that British tone which i favor, but driving it farther would take it from its real sound. The only thing i agree on with people is that it isn't as bright as vox but hey its a steal for that amount. Play one and go with an open mind and don't just try one guitar try a few

Great value

By Brent

from Manassas VA

Comments about Bugera 1990 Classic 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp sounds very much like the Marshall it's intended to clone, it's a little brighter and has more gain (more than anyone should ever need really). I run it through a Line 6 4x12", and have used it at tons of gigs with none of the reliability issues others have reported. Effects loop works well though the level control doesn't seem to do much. 3-way switchable impedance so you can use just about any cabinet with it. The 60/120 watt switchable power is nice. Wish it had seperate tone controls for the 2 channels, but it's nice to have a gain control on the clean channel (wish Fender would do this). It's REALLY loud, consider whether you need this much power before you buy as it doesn't really come into its own until you turn it up to at at least 4 on the master. My band plays a lot of 70's hard rock (Judas Priest, Mountain, Pat Travers) and I've found this to be a great amp for getting that Marshall sound at a reasonable cost.
