Overview

The Pursuit Dreadnought Mahogany offers the projection of a full-depth dreadnought, with a desirable midrange and powerful punch of mahogany for tonal warmth when played both acoustically and plugged in. The Pursuit Dreadnought Mahogany is a versatile instrument that will project well, and it offers Breedlove’s distinctively crafted sound in an affordable package. Includes built-in USB port for easy interfacing with recording software.

Body Shape
Breedlove set out to enhance the traditional dreadnought sound, and the results are evident. If you’re inspired by the familiarity of a dread, but are looking for more nuance and richness than usual, the Breedlove Dreadnought delivers. The shape is slightly more rounded than traditional dreadnoughts and produces beautifully full, punchy, and articulate tones. It also provides excellent projection and articulation, so it excels in any ensemble. The hand-graduated top provides the balance and clarity that make this one of the most innovative and expressive-sounding dreadnoughts on the market.

Top Wood
Genuine mahogany, swietenia macrophylla, can be found from Mexico to southern Amazonia in Brazil. Mahogany is a medium-lightweight wood, ranging in color from light brown to dark, and is primarily used for necks because of the feel and the stability it provides. It offers a balanced, resonant tone with notable sustain – a thick bottom end, rich midrange, and controlled, warm top end finish out the sound. The coloration is a reddish brown.

Breedlove Pinless Bridge
The Breedlove Pinless Bridge helps maintain the integrity of the top by eliminating the need for six drilled string holes. The fewer holes in your soundboard, the more evenly the sound wave can move across the interior, without any loss of energy. The Breedlove Pinless Bridge also provides a gentler string-break angle from the bridge to the top of the saddle, reducing saddle strain. This innovative bridge also makes string changes a breeze, especially on 12 strings. Plus, you’ll never again have to worry about lost, worn-out, or broken bridge pins.

Breedlove Neck
Breedlove guitars feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish also contributes to ideal playability. The labor-intensive finish process includes precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.

Set-Up and Quality Assurance in Bend, Oregon USA
Breedlove's comprehensive quality control process provides the player with an instrument that will play perfectly right out of the box. Prior to shipment, every Breedlove instrument undergoes a rigorous 25-to-30-point inspection in Bend, Oregon by Breedlove's expert U.S. quality control team. They start with a visual inspection: checking aesthetic and structural elements of the body and components for flaws. Next, each guitar is tuned and undergoes a play test, where craftspeople check nut height, relief, action, and string height. Based on the results of the play test, Breedlove's QC team then adjust for maximum playability. Finally, each instrument is buffed and polished by hand with painstaking attention to detail. Once the instrument has passed inspection, a signed QC sticker is placed, and the instrument is carefully packed and shipped.

Lifetime Warranty
Breedlove players around the world can attest: With consistent, proper care, your Breedlove will give you a lifetime of service and inspiration. New Breedlove instruments, purchased through an authorized Breedlove dealer, are warranted to be free of defects in materials and workmanship throughout the lifetime of the original owner. In addition to materials and workmanship, Breedlove offers a two-year warranty on tuning machines and electronics packages.

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This isn't my favorite guitar for songwriting in particular. I find it hard to be happy with it because the sound isn't my style. I also notice how dull it sounds and it doesn't give off a good after taste in the sound. I like a rich soulful guitar sound with a loud carry on style. Washburns have been the best experience for me, because some have two different layers of woods in it. it makes the sound quality more versatile. This guitar I bought sounds cheaply made and I can get a better price and quality with Washburn. No hate on this it is good for studio recordings, but not great enough. Also, I find it harder to pick with it and it is flat sounding. Although, the style is beautifully made. Great job on that. :)

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The guitar has a beautiful finish and plays well below the fretboard extension. Above the neck and body joint the fretboard moves up away from the body, which makes all notes on all strings above the 14th to fret out.

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Guitar was perfect! Fit and finish is exceptional in this price range. I like the fact that it is made in the USA. Breedlove has a reputation of building quality. It has a solid wood top, and real bone nut and saddle, instead of plastic. The added option I was really surprised to see was the USB port to connect to my Computer to record.

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I decided to purchase this guitar after being dissatisfied with a Martin I had previously purchased. (Granted, it was a lower end Martin.) But this guitar has a sturdy construction, great sound, and is easy to fret. I mainly use it for practicing, jamming with friends, or performing at small venues. This guitar has great Fishman electronics and sounds good through a sound system.

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Ok, so I just returned this instrument. I'm not flaming it. It was just okay, but I want better than okay. I got an open box that was supposed to be mint, but there were some blems not mentioned in the description. Of course, MF paid shipping on the return for exchange so it's all good. The action was not very good out of the box. It was nice at the nut but really high at the 12th fret. I could have sanded the bridge saddle to get it down but didn't bother because I wasn't in love with the sound. The instrument is beautiful. I really wanted to love it. I felt like the gloss finish choked the sound a little bit. Overall though, the acoustic sound was pretty nice, but I guess I prefer a satin body finish and more body resonance. It was a bit bassier than most spruce tops I've played, which is what I was looking for. The satin finish on the neck felt nice. The fretwork was acceptable, but not great. Really nice on the top side but the bottom side you could definitely feel some places where it was poking out. Not terrible. Acceptable. Just not great. Plugged in, I really didn't care for the tone but it's difficult to get a good acoustic tone with an amp, regardless of the electronics. Again, overall, it was ok, but I was underwhelmed and decided to try a more expensive guitar.

Also worth noting, the gig bag that's included is very nice. I read some reviews that said it wasn't great but it seemed sturdy, with decent padding, backpack straps and a fair sized front pocket.

I do think this would be a worthwhile purchase for someone, but it wasn't for me.

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After playing about thirty similarly priced guitars I chose this one as being the best for me. First off, do not expect this guitar to play like a $1500.00 axe...it just won't happen. That being said this is a pretty decent guitar. Fit and finish are acceptable, playability is fairly easy, nice action and the intonation is perfect at the 12th fret. Sound is a bit heavy on the low end but not to the point of unpleasant. Projects well. Electronics are good and the tuner is easy to read and accurate. Love the pinless bridge. Breedlove's quality control is evident as I played four others and couldn't find any difference in them. The tuners and gig bag are my only gripes...the tuners feel a little sloppy and I wouldn't trust the gig bag to protect the guitar. If your amplifying I recommend going direct into the PA or through a good amp designed for acoustic-electric guitars.

Comments about Breedlove Pursuit Dreadnought Mahogany Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is my first nice acoustic guitar and I am very happy with it. When I first played one of these I instantly knew this was the guitar I needed to get. To me it had the right playability, sound, look, feel, features, and cost. Its quite unique looking and sounding with the Mahogany top, but that's part of why I love it. It has a very nice, warm, open sound to it when playing. The neck is also super nice as it is a sort of satin feel and a nice profile which both make it super nice feeling. The whole guitar is built super well too; no poor finish spots, no rough fret edges, level frets, intonation is also spot on too.

The only thing I could be nit-picky about is the case. Its nice that its included, but it definitely isn't the nicest gig-bag I've seen included with guitars. But thats really a minor point.

All in all, I am extremely happy with this guitar and will definitely look into another Breedlove guitar in the future.
