I have owned this guitar for about 3-4 months at this point, and this guitar has just been awesome. I was looking for something that was cost effective, but sounded full since getting a Martin or Taylor was a little too pricey for me. I also wanted the electronics as well, and this guitar delivers it all. The cedar top really helps the sound in my opinion. The neck plays very well and the cutaway allows you to get up in the higher register with ease. Overall, I can't say there are many guitars better for the money. Plugged in or not, this guitar is amazing.

I purchased this guitar in February 2013 after playing several guitars at the store over a period of two days. Great sound, good reputation for quality, and played nice. I purchased one that was still in the box and pre-stringed. When I was changing the strings for the first time, the white plastic nut came right off the headstock. There was no glue (dried or otherwise) or anything else under the nut or on the wood of the headstock - a clear manufacturing mistake. Since it has been more than 30 days since I bought it from GC, I checked the Breedlove website to find warranty info and learned that in order for their "lifetime" warranty to be honored, you must register the guitar within 30 days of purchase. As a working father of three very young kids, I didn't even have time to change the strings in 30 days, ket alone register a warranty. I submitted a request on their website anyway, so we'll see. I like this guitar, don't want it replaced, any only want the nut secured to the headstock. I plan to take it to GC too to see if they can work with me since this is the 4th guitar I have bought from them since 2010.

I Love This Guitar

By Kevin Eddy

from Cincinnati, Ohio

Comments about Breedlove Passport C250/CMe Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar since 1976. I'm no virtuoso but I know my way around an acoustic guitar. I recently decided it was time to replace the Ovation I've been playing for almost 20 years. I planned to look at another Ovation, since I really like the feel of the neck on them, and this Breedlove was on the list of guitars in the same price range I planned to compare it with. The GC store I visited didn't have any Ovations in stock, so I played this Breedlove first and was immediately very taken with it. My wife encouraged me to try a couple of other guitars from what I call the "I can't afford them" room. I played a couple of Martins and Taylors and I liked them as one would expect. What I did not expect was this: I didn't like the Martins and Taylors any more than I liked the $499 Breedlove C250/CMe. I kept going back to it for comparison. I think my wife would have accepted the purchase of the more expensive Taylor I liked, but why spend a considerable amount more when I liked the Breedlove at least as much? So now I've had it for several weeks and I couldn't be happier with this guitar. I love playing it and it sounds beautiful, particularly played fingerstyle. I find myself strumming with a lighter touch than I was used to and that sounds great too. Leads are very easy all the way up the neck and the notes sustain and ring nicely. Altered tunings sound great. The neck feels great, and it is a joy to play. I've played it with a capo as far up as the 9th fret and even that works well. I did break the high E string on day 2 while tuning it back up from a D as I messed with different tunings getting to know the guitar. I was concerned there might be an issue at the nut, but the replacement string I put on hasn't had the problem so I'll chalk that up to one bad string rather than a problem with the guitar. It's been tuned up and down and strummed hard and been bent without issue. So, long story short: I think this is a terrific guitar. Anyone looking for an acoustic guitar for less than $1000 should have this on their short list.

Great affordable acoustic

By Richard Scanlon

from MA

Comments about Breedlove Passport C250/CMe Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought this after playing electric for many years and only having a cheap acoustic Fender from a starter pack to fiddle around with for years. I think I'll be picking up this Breedlove much more than I ever did my Fender, the quality and craftmanship is very good. I was looking for a nice cutaway acoustic in the $4-600 price range and this fit the bill perfectly. Manufactured in South Korea, but designed and inspected in Oregon before its sent out. The guitar came perfectly set up which I've never experienced from a guitar that I've ordered. That was a nice surprise. The onboard tuner is a neat feature. The location of the input jack if you want to amplify is also a neat location at the bottom guitar strap button. The weight is just right, nicely balanced. The sound is amazing for what I paid. Great sustain of notes and plenty of bass considering its size and cutaway shape.

Really nice guitar

By Paul Kuhn

from Brook Park, Oh

Comments about Breedlove Passport C250/CMe Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar now for about 3 weeks. I bought a Takamine dreadnaught and I was fumbling over the large size because I was used to playing an Ovation, smaller guitar. Then I came upon the Breedlove line at GC and I loved the smaller size of this guitar. The Mahogany sides and back along with the cedar top give this guitar an unusual amount of sustain when striking a chord, for a smaller bodied guitar. It definately puts out some sound for it's size. The sound is not as much on the treble side as the Takamine was but I like the way it's rich tone from the cedar top. carries the bass notes. The top wood is responsible for 80% of your guitars sound. This guitar is very light weight. I've only played two gigs with it but both were 4 hr jobs and had no problem playing that long. Standard string gauge from the factory is 12's so if your used to 10's or 11's it may take you a while to condition your fingers for this. The action was a little high from the factory but my friends at GC set up the guitar and lowered the action and it plays really nice now. Not as low as my electric Strat but nice and comfortable. All in all, this is a great guitar for the price tag. You'll like listening and playing this guitar. Enjoy Rick

Update on previous review.

By James Coulter

from South Boston, VA

Comments about Breedlove Passport C250/CMe Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

9 months ago I wrote the VERY long review "Absolutely stunning" (sorry for the length - if I could change it, I would). I use this guitar for a minimum of 3 worship services and their corresponding rehearsals/personal practice times each week. I know this guitar well. Bottom line: do not purchase a guitar for under $1500 without first sitting down with this guitar and trying it. I've had the opportunity to let others use my Breedlove C250/CM in the last year, and the results were the same every single time - astonishment, especially when they found out the price. A very accomplished musician that typically plays a very nice Martin borrowed my guitar for a funeral. When she came out of the practice room she looked at me and simply said, "this guitar is amazing!" Another musician friend of mine from Nashville is now seriously considering purchasing one to travel with instead of his 600 series Taylor (a 612, if memory serves). After experiencing the tone and playability of my guitar, he said he just can't see risking his Taylor with travel when he can get such great sound out of a guitar that's 1/5th the price. Like another reviewer said on his six month follow up review, "if I could give this guitar 6 stars, I would." It's that good. Try it.

6 Month update

By James

from South Boston, VA

Comments about Breedlove Passport C250/CMe Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I wrote a MUCH longer review of this guitar not too long after I got it. Here's the bottom line: After six months, if I could give this guitar 6 stars, I would. Everything I said in my original post still holds true today - this is a FANTASTIC instrument. But let's face it - reviews can only tell you so much. When it comes to an guitar, you have to feel it, play it, and hear it. So before you drop big money on a more expensive guitar, go to Guitar Center and sit down with this guitar and compare it to others. Play it plugged and unplugged and I'm fairly sure it will write it's own review for you right then and there. If you're like me, you'll be blown away by what you hear. Personally, I couldn't find anything in the $1,500 and under price range that could beat it.

Absolutely stunning

By James

from Norfolk, VA

Comments about Breedlove Passport C250/CMe Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Why I bought this guitar: I set out nearly a year ago to find a great guitar. I wanted to get the most for my money but was also willing to spend what it took to get the guitar I wanted. After playing quite a few guitars (Martins, Taylors, Gibsons, Takamines, Epiphones, etc), I quickly fell in love with the Taylor 214 and 314; To me, there just wasn't any comparison to their sound. So, I began the process of saving up for the purchase. Then a friend told me to try the Breedloves. I had tried one of the more expensive models before and didn't like it as much as the Taylor. However, I decided to go back to Guitar Center and take another look at the Breedloves just for kicks. I am so glad I did! Because of my experience with other guitars in this price range, I initially skipped over this guitar and went straight for the more expensive models. I played several, including some that were in the $1,500-$1,800 range, but I didn't like any of them as much as the Taylors. Then on a whim I picked up this guitar. It wasn't love at first sight, but I found myself seemingly "drawn" to it immediately. It wasn't a "WOW!" kind of thing, but rather a "hmm..that's very interesting" kind of experience (in a very pleasant way). I put it down and tried another guitar, then came back to this one, then a Martin, then this one again, and so on, and so on. Before I knew it, I was hooked. The more I played it, the more I had a hard time putting it down. Before I knew it, my "interesting" feeling was quickly changing to a "WOW!" From that moment on, my eyes were set on this Breedlove. I eventually saved up the money to purchase and have since found myself even more enamored with this beautiful and inspiring instrument. Features: On-board, back-lit tuner, solid Red Cedar top, cutaway, active pickup with volume and tone control. It's hard to ask for more - especially at this price range! The pick-up alone is about a $300 unit. Quality: Fantastic! Absolutely beautiful construction; very solid feel, even frets with no buzz, great tuners, and set-up was nearly perfect from the word "go" (it was a hair high for me, but probably perfect for most players). Again, far above par for this price range, and even better than many guitars costing more than twice the price. Sound: Oh...my...GOODNESS!! Incredible! This is where this guitar shines! To me, it is almost the perfect mix of the Taylor articulation/clarity and the Martin warmth! Sit down with a Taylor 214, a Martin OMCPA4, and this Breedlove and play them all - you'll see what I mean. It has clear, even tonality with great note articulation. Unplugged, the solid Red Cedar top resonates beautifully with a very full, warm tone. Plug it in, and it absolutely sings!!! Wow!! What a beautiful tone. The pinless bridge offers tremendous sustain, and the guitar is also quite loud for it's size - nearly as loud as my Epiphone dreadnaught. Look & Feel: Simple, but beautiful! There are little details put into the design that I missed initially but am discovering along the way - understated, yet brilliant. Love the satin finish. Feels great in the hands, and is a very "playable" guitar; bar chords and advanced fingerings are much easier to play on this guitar than on my Epiphone. And I have found that I much prefer both the sound and the feel of the Grand Concert body style over the Dreadnought. The construction seems rock solid. Bottom Line: I would absolutely recommend this guitar to anyone without hesitation (and have). I would also go out and purchase one again in an instant without a second thought. I'm one person, but I've personally compared this guitar plugged and unplugged to others costing two to three times the price, and I honestly couldn't find any that could beat it. There were some that were comparable, but none that beat it. And in the same price range? Forget it. There just isn't anything out there that's even close. But don't just take my word for it - DO YOUR HOMEWORK! A guitar is a very personal thing, so go out and play a BUNCH of them before you purchase one, and don't be afraid to try some that you normally wouldn't even consider in the first place - you just might be surprised at what you find!
