I will start off by saying that I am a die-hard Taylor and Larrivee fan, I have owned all Taylors ranging from the 1 to the 9 series (and a custom). This guitar was beyond amazing and up to par with the higher end brands. I was looking for a gift for my 13-year old cousin, and the sales guy showed me the Fender starter pack, then a bunch of the starter packs, some lower end Taylors and Martins. There were three things that stood out on this guitar: 1) the build quality was great, I looked close, tried to find defects and flaws and could not. 2) the sound delivered was resonant, clear, articulate, and pleasant. Very inspiring. 3) the action on the strings was perfect, low action without buzz and the tension on the strings was not as tough as the Fender and Martins. Hands down the best guitar in its price range. The only guitar I would compare it with is the Taylor GS Mini, but that is just a small travel guitar. This is a great beginner's guitar and a great couch or travel guitar for advanced players. I would even consider using it as a gigging guitar.
I bought this guitar today at GC in portland maine.i spent almost 2 hours just playing other guitars from fender to ovation and i can tell you this guitar sounds amazing,it feels good in my hands and my fingers really free of tense when playing it not like other guitars that i tried.i change the strings with elixir light gauge and it brings the whole beauty of the sound of this guitar.i feel good cause i spent my hard earn money to something amazing.my recommendation, BUY IT.
I've been looking to buy an acoustic guitar with a solid spruce top for some time, but the budget guitars didn't give me the sound I was looking for and when I found the sound it was usually with one of the more expensive brands. After playing two dozen different guitars I saw the section with the Breedloves; I had never heard of this brand and knew nothing about them. Long story short I saw the D200/SMP acoustic...it was a good looking basic guitar...nothing fancy. However when I played it my ears perked up, This guitar has such a rich balanced sound, as well as, really good volume. I couldn't believe my ears...! I compared it side by side with some of the big name brands and was astounded it really held its own. The other thing I fell in love with is its playability...it was easier to play than many of the other guitars I had been checking out...it just felt right. This guitar has a solid Sitka Spruce top with lamanated maple back and sides. This combination of woods really offer an excellent tone. I can't wait to hear how this guitar sounds with age. It has a very basic satin finish with a simple black/white/black rosette...as I said earlier, nonthing fancy. It wasn't the look that sold me, but the sound. Now here's is the negative part of the review. The gig bag is a piece of junk! I will be purchasing a hardshell-case for this guitar very soon. The biggest problem with the gig bag is it is extremely tight fitting and the zipper lays very tightly against the binding of the body...I'm really worried it would scratch the binding up...so I'm not going to use it again. I see the lousy bag as a good thing though...I think this shows that your money is going into the quality of the guitar and not the bag! If you are looking for for a great deal and a fantastic sounding guitar, then the Breedlove D200/SMP may be just what the doctor ordered.
I have been looking for a good basic standard acoustic that was not too expensive that I can take camping, beach, etc. and not worry about it getting messed up. After playing various Takamine's, previouslyowning a Seagull S6 (great guitar, but the neck did not fit my hand), this guitar looks to be pretty good quality for the price. Have not had a chance to really dig into it yet as just purchased but action out of the box is good, not defects that I can find, nice matt finish. What's great about Breedlove, this guitar is Korean made and then shipped back to OR and thoroughly Qc'd before being shipped to the store.
This was the first 'real' guitar I bought. I was at the Guitar Ctr in Littleton, CO, and wanted to spend $500.00 or close. Every time I went back to this guitar it sounded so bright and rich! I love the fact that it is a little smaller than a typical Dread. The gig bag is ecellent, and the peopla at Breedlove are very responsive, not that I have ever had a problem with the guitar. The action was perfect and the top has gotten a little darker over the years (I bought it over two years ago). The neck is quite small, and it plays super easily. Although I now have 5 more guitars since I bought this one, this is the one I grab if I want an easy playing, comfortable guitar. I cannot ever see myself selling this guitar.
